The thing is, Taiwan is an independent country founded by the chinese nationalists when they lost the civil war. For China, and I kinda understand why they think that even if I think they are wrong, Taiwan is nothing but the last part of they territory that they need to take to finish the civil war.

The danger of losing the chip factories in Taiwan and global chip market getting destroyed by China is way too big. USA wouldn't wait a second to enter the war if China attacked Taiwan. Those chip factories in Taiwan are as important as oil if not more.

The problems is, the Taiwan-Chinese affair is the direct heir of the Chinese civil war. And so, when the Chinese look at Taiwan, they don't see the peaceful, independent democracy that it is now, but the people they were during the civil war. And so, China wants to definitely end this part of their history by removing the Taiwanese government. (If you don't know, Taiwan was created by the Chinese nationalists who fled China when the communists started winning.)

The reason they don't see it as an independent country is because the ROC claims all of it's past territories. Admitting that Taiwan is a country would move the dispute from "who owns this island" to "who owns mainland China", which China does not want.

China could take a leaf out of the UK's book and attempt a peace agreement like we did with Ireland. Recognising an independent Ireland, and later negotiating for peace in Northern Ireland was a process of compromise and discussion, and it worked. At the moment China doesn't want to talk because it doesn't want to give the impression that Taiwan is legitimate or a sovereign nation, they'd rather continue to threaten. Taiwan could eventually move closer to abandoning it's claims to the mainland, but it has to be a two way street of concessions from both sides.
