People used to blame Trump for launching a trade war. And then he was sent away. As a result, people didn't expect that the next one to come in would be a more dangerous warmonger.
War is what the US does, unfortunately. At present having lured Putin into his futile war with Ukraine, thus holding back the long recovery of Russia from the dissolution of the Soviet Union, they are keeping up the pressure around Taiwan hoping to draw China into military action before it has the overwhelming power needed for success.
The problem with Facebook & RU-vid algorithm is RU-vid & Facebook have an agenda. Even after you thumb down certain type of content, it will recommend you that certain content. The worse part, it will try to "change you're preference" in the name of offering balanced view.
Their algorithm is heavily politicized. Everything that works against the Western status quo is shadow banned and their questionable values promoted ad infinitum
Very true, I have tagged some publishers they push as uninterested several times, but they keep pushing those people. Yes, because there is an agenda. And then censor some news sites. I can understand them censoring US content from US users because US government think it is harming US. But why block content to their international users.
@@Shenzhou. For me, because I don't want to watch mainstream western media lie, once in a while, RU-vid will recommend me to watch something to "persuade" me to understand western media narrative/culture. Like an American talkshow that will belittle China/Russia. Or some kiss cam to persuade me to love American culture And no matter how much i thumb down those content.... It keep coming
Well I guess anything is a threat if it's view so. But being Chinese in origin makes it particularly vulnerable and national security is such a handy excuse to use to crack down on "threats".
As my mother say when she come to china to visit me: This guys never stop. They never take a break ....I told her : this is china and everywhere is the same. People move. People work hard. ! That’s why they advance ! 😂😂
China has the world's largest population, so statistically speaking, China has the most *brainpower* to come up with plans and ideas, as well as the *manpower* to implement said plans and turn ideas into reality.
Chinese are among the most intelligent and diligent of peoples. Chinese are no strangers to hard work, from blue-collar jobs such as laborer (coolies), rickshaw drivers, farmers, chefs (esp. Chinese restaurants), laudromat workers. As well as white-collar jobs such as doctors, lawyers, dentists, engineers, programmers, scientists and so on. There is no work that Chinese aren't qualified or unwilling to do.

According to _Human Rights Watch:_ _Singapore’s political environment is _*_overwhelmingly repressive._*_ Citizens face severe restrictions on free expression, association, and peaceful assembly through overly broad criminal laws and regulations._ Doesn't Singapore's political system sounds remarkably similar to China's?
I lived in Singapore. It is nothing like it was described. That's how you know that western media, reports and think tanks are ultimately self serving liars.
I've heard of it too but I believe those that said that are already at his/her wits end, so down playing others are their only option to make themselves feel better. They also said Chinese/Asian are only good at memorization, not innovation. well, you do need to memorized enough datas/facts in your head to manipulate them to come up with something new, don't you? when you have a new idea, don't you need datas/facts from your head to assess and analyzed that new idea? Arrogance and down playing Chinese/Asian goes hand in hand, while they try to make themselves feel better, let us kept moving forward.
As China had prohibited the sale of TikTok's algorithm intellectual property (IP) to the USA, the only solution for the American politicians is to ban TikTok. However the backlash from the American young Tik Tok users will likely destroy these politicians future.
No country on Earth has ever successfully rejected technology. The US politicians who ban TikTok and Huawei will receive their karma sooner than we think they will.
@@johnsmith-cw3wo Yes. The hardware part of Tik Tok is of small value. It is the AI assisted software and the accumulated big data bank targeting the appropriate consumers successfully that the advertisers are willing to pay Tik Tok for.
Why can you not do so? Especially with internet it's never been easier to communicate around the world. I'm at loss for why you are different from everyone else that you cannot cross borders online? My child has made friends with people worldwide simply playing games. Maybe get out of your bubble and start talking to people you have not met yet.
Just a few yrs back, I remembered watching Xiaoma, an American YTuber who knows Mandarin and was asking American youths what their opinions of douyin are after showing them some short videos . During then, most didn't know what douyin is. Now, Tik tok has more than 100 million American subscribers. That is quite a surprise.
erm i didnt know tiktok was bigger than youtube.... for me anyway youtube is my time sink..... though i am hating youtubes rubbish algorithm at recommending me absolute crap... or videos from 20 yrs ago or videos ive seen before
@@Zarozian serpentza grew up in South Africa, so he was accustomed to the apartheid system, and when he move to China, he enjoyed Chinese people hospitality. However, China has changed and he no longer enjoys the privileges he once held, which was probably the reason why he eventually left.
This is excellent overview of current situation of world tech which is so often stimulated and shaped by Chinese apps and platforms. People here focus on hard working side but I would say, these Chinese enterpreneurs are very intelligent and sensitive to the customers who have diverse cultural backgrounds. They are also extremely creative.

Not only that, but after Chinese complete their our education, we can take on white-collar jobs such as doctors, lawyers, dentists, engineers, programmers, scientists and so on. I went on bilibili and most of the Chinese there seem to know some English, Japanese, and even Spanish and German. However, Chinese don't seem good at presenting themselves and their ideas of future technology like chatgpt are delivered without enthusiasm it requires. Hard science fiction on TV shows is rare except maybe Three-Body problem.
China entrepreneurs got to wait for American to invent something new before they copied and improved it. For example before there is Tiktok, there was RU-vid. Before there is Alibaba, there was E-Bay. What technologies China have, it can trace back to western technology in its origin. If America no more invent new things, China got nothing to innovate or improve.
USA Congress: There are spying devices built into bras, undies and pant zippers sold by Shein, this is why Shein must be banned in USA to protect Americans. Americans need freedom of guns, drugs....
Thumbs up to the young people in China. Many are very innovative. I have seen many home gadgets created and made in China are amazing! Gadgets that are practical to use, saves time and space; ranging from hanging a picture without a nail to moving furniture with ease; and many more. Really useful stuff. 👍👍👏👏
I think this pattern will repeat itself for a simple reason: "Chinese" apps become successful in China before being released to the outside world. The apps that the US government disparages as "Chinese" are truly the international versions of these apps. A lot like cars from Japan, the ones that survive are the ones that go through the natural selection process in China first. We just have to face the fact that the US is no longer the innovation center of the world.
@@wysemanacc84 yeah brother that is true but the Chinese didn't make any noise about it they just banned them. The Chinese were not shit stirring like the yanks
The reason why users stay longer on Tiktok is not just because they have a good algorithm. It’s because they have a more frictionless video watching experience and the short form video experience makes it better at keep Millenial/Gen Z’s short attention span compared to longer video which usually requires users to have longer attention spans. Tiktok also made it really easy for users to upload short form videos (filters/vfx, music, video editing) which gave the platform a bunch of content for the algo to recommend.
@Felixfelicis I don't agree with the proposed ban. The americans are discussing the proposed ban though based on security concerns. There are so many uncensored platforms out there that for americans to use that I don't really think it will curtail their free speech.
Yes! Admiration for all who reach for their personal best and bring better communication among cultures . Perhaps their intentions ❣️ Much gratitude for your perspective, platform and inspiring post, love and light
OMG, I miss Heytea sooo much, there's a bunch of copycats where I am here in NY, but nothing beats fresh grape cheese tea with actual peeled grapes...best drink ever! When I lived in Shanghai Amazon was making its push into China when Taobao was already established, there were ads all over the subways, but it ended up being a dud. Same with Uber vs Didi. Chinese companies are used to having like 800 competitors and it's a fight to the death until winner take all. In the next few years, there will be much more Chinese companies running circles around their competition.
I remember the ads from Amazon at the Jingan Station, that was way back and Taobao for foreigners was still new and most foreigners relied on Amazon. Later Taobao became a must and Amazon was dead. Heytea is overrated, expensive, the milktea and lemon drinks shop are super competitive.
Lol right when you talked about Temu- Cut to Temu ad Employee: boss what are you doing!! Boss: our shit is so cheap! Why no one buying !!! Cracked me up
Are these same American politicians also going to start banning all those brilliant Chinese students in American universities who are outperforming many American students on grounds of national security?? America has got to come to terms with the changing reality in this world. I am from Africa and fed up with American bullying, threats, intimidation, arm twisting, cajoling and it's condescending attitude towards Africa. They are so childish.
People that lived In a bubble for a long time can't reason rational to an extent, we need to dismantle decouple De-dollarize so that they can be mentally reconfigured
Honestly, feel like US based tech in the last 10 years focused entirely on further monetization, abandoning product development almost completely. I cant even think of something Facebook does today that it couldn't on 2013.
Agree so much with your thoughts...FB is now on a the Metaverse rabbit hole and burning money faster than ever, I think it's the worst social media platform of them all
Tech was first created by the govt and random people. The private industry just started using it when it was profitable and it collided with the fall of communism and ussr. It is expensive to innovate and capitalism puts profit over everything else
Agree! The push for profit above all else has made mist social media miserable. FB is really gotten bad these last few years and I find myself not wanting to get in anymore. It's old and tired. When I am on I find myself watching TikTok videos more often than not, as they come up in my feed🤣🤣. I should just switch to TikTok.
I have been following your posts and wonder if you can consider why an African can read sense out of an US American? China is probably a fundamental inciter, that the forest provides limited challenges and when you went to China and Chinese people are encouraged to explore the USA forest. People get enriched through challenges
On the other hand, not many Americans are being encouraged to explore the China forests. Chinese probably know more about America than Americans do about China.
In the west when something becomes popular the price goes up and growth stops. Everywhere else the price comes down and reaches more people in more country's, in turn keeps on growing. If you have made your money back and still have stock, you are holding dead money, and it is costing you storage, move it on at whatever price and get on to the next thing
This question is very worthy of our consideration. For example, Tesla was established in the United States, but Tesla sold in China is cheaper than in the United States. This business phenomenon interests me very much. Okay, I have something to do now.
Feel bad about TikTok's CEO being treated unfairly. I have huge admiration for all of the successful Chinese who have always been very positive and worked hard never given up⭐️ China 🇨🇳 government wants to people be rich...have lots of flexible very open mindset policy that encourages people to be rich. This is very different in Western, Find the vibe is LOW always see people with evil eyes 👁️spy/Judge people with [envy. jealousy.hate] 👺 😡The government seems to hate you if strong and work hard. Say your Spy! 🤡let The war crime career get paid and have money 💵 to Judge you politically ❗️ Wish things get to change and for people to focus on their businesses and the right things.
This explains a lot. I noticed about three months ago on RU-vid. I started getting a lot more recommendations from smaller news channels, and smaller creators than I was.. the last couple of years or since ad apocalypse. Ad apocalypse destroyed a lot of independent political commentary channels and pushed out mega corporate news channels like cnn. RU-vid content that was deemed controversial was supressed by RU-vid unappealing.
Cyrus, I have been following your blog for quite q while since you were in China. I must say your presentations are getting better and more slick by the day. Great work and thank you.❤❤❤
You are amazing, always. How can you be so updated with day to day life in both America and China in fact the whole world?! We are blessed and proud that there are three medical doctors in our family. Needless to say they are well-educated, yet they are all your fans impressed by your eloquent and conversant presentations. Thank you. Please keep up your good work.
Actually, the politician spend their time on wacking each other with a sledge hammer that goes Tik-Tok, Tik-Tok. That's how they become like idiot as seen.😊
Hey Cyrus. Can you make a video about what you think of the social pressure there is in China? There’s this feeling that everyone has to compete with each other in order to be successful. In Chinese they call it 卷, which is trying to outcompete others. This is widely knwon in China
@@eddharm7329 Agreed. If you look up countries by suicide rate, then other East Asian countries like Japan and South Korea are ahead of China in this field.
You can only hit the HEIGHT on top of a mountain & need to come down for AIR, you know once up there, the lack of oxygen can stifle the creative mind..... With Youth, the imagination is FRESHER, they typically know their own market, no youth want to stick with own parents BRAND like MySpace, Facebook.. etc
Thank you Cyrus for recap of Chinese Entrepreneurs Contributions to worldwide trends but what's the action that China took to American tech companies? Hope this missing link as addressed in your caption stated.
China is uniquely able to restrict people's time on Tiktok. Being addicted to chains of short videos (95minutes is just the average!) is so awful for your own mind and society. Yes, I know there was already TV etc, but the AI makes it so much more unputdownable.
@@blitz12399 YT FB do not want to accept China law and move out. Tikkot meet all the requirement of US laws and still getting banned. Only dumb will think I ban you you ban me.
That's a good video Cyrus. Good to see the success of Tik Tok. Hopefully, one day China can relax the internet censorship and Tik Tok and Douyin can merge together.
Could you explain why those two companies should they merge together? The fact that _Tik Tok_ is separate from _Douyin,_ means that the Chinese government *doesn't have control* over _Tik Tok,_ so they can host servers overseas (i.e in America and Singapore). If Tik Tok and Douyin merge, then the US government would have the reason to ban the app.
If the 2 companies merge, that will improve the communications between the users in China and out of China. Currently, internet users in China have limited access to sites out of China, and users overseas have many misconceptions about mainland China. By improving communications, it will promote understanding among different people.
The fact that so many mainland Chinese users are participating in the comment section is proof that Chinese people are smart enough to deserve free internet.
@@MarkYeung1 If the 2 companies merge, it means that Chinese government will *now have control* over _Tik Tok_ (instead of having separate servers for overseas clients) and this will give the US Congress ever more reason to ban this app, if those two companies merge.
@@MarkYeung1 Another point to note is that is *100 percent possible* to access _TikTok_ (not _Douyin)_ while in China. However, if you merge the 2 companies, it means that the Chinese government will now have control over _Tik Tok_ and this will give the US Congress the reason to ban this app. By separating the companies, it will permit Tik Tok to set up overseas servers on USA to protect its users data.
