Hang on..... the base model is $110k USD not $107, that's without any taxes and fees, at the current exchange rate that's $172k AUD. The $239,000 AUD price includes $35k of LCT and $21k of GST so the net price without tax is $182k AUD - that's $10k difference not $40k. The top of the range R is $148k USD = $231k AUD and the AUD price is $315k which includes $52k of LCT and $29k GST = $234k without taxes. There is no "$40k difference" .

Thanks for the Lotus content! Have you seen the Emeya sedan and heard about the Lotus Flash Charge charging network yet? Also, the type 134 SUV (Macan rival) comes out in 2026 with a $70K target price and the Type 136 E-Bike is being produced in Italy (for a whopping $26K!).

my fav is Lucid but what if the sheikh gets tired of subsidizing the unprofitable venture then what . I want something that is going to be available for at least a couple of decades and can upgrade OTA, charge anywhere, maybe even drive itself eventually

Take a good look at Lucid manufacturing plants, they cannot scale. Take another look at the management team, they are falling apart. The smart money goes elsewhere. Sounds like you are describing Tesla.

I originally was looking at the middle lotus electre. Think it’s the S. but the exterior looks are a bit much for me. I ended up buying a polestar 3 performance. Stats wise it’s very similar to the middle electre. But handling and steering apparently is just next level in the polestar compared to the out of control lotus

Matt had the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) and the Traction Control (Anti-spin) OFF 🤦🏼‍♂️. With these two systems engaged, it was no problems, and don't forget that the poor tarmac was covered in several cm of water. You could basically call it a very shallow pond😂

The Americans have deep pockets and there are a lot more of them versus asstralians who just aren't as rich and even the rich asstralians aren't that high in number. It's only reasonable to expect this car to be more expensive in the poorer country

This is not a real Lotus, except for the badge. I used to own a real one in the past. Lotus was renowned for its light weight & fabulous handling, a joy to drive.

A Lotus not made in UK and tested on the twisty Norfolk roads is not a Lotus IMHO. Give it to the Lotus engineers and they will sort the suspension out. They can work wonders, just like they did with the Lotus Carlton and the fast Fords.

People are done with British engineers. Too many problems and mechanical issues. If I want bad quality, I will have a Brit make my car. If I want good quality, I trust the Chinese to actually care about their jobs.

Youre living in the past, the reason Lotus is owned by Chinese company.... Not doubting Lotus has genius engineers of course! Who do you think designed and made the car? Pretty sure its definitely a global collaboration! If you think it was completely Chinese designed from the ground up, then youre mistaken.... Also Lotus marketing or whatever PR marketing group Lotus has are absolutely up its own arse..... If you play GT7 or know about the licensing arm or troubles of Lotus you know that they have a high opinion of themselves! The reason Lotus havent appeared in GT for 2 or 3 outings now Lotus consider themselves up there with Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, Bugatti's, Koeneggseggs!!!? and Mclaren etc! They MAY have a point but Lotus havent been relevant or productive in a long while... Lotus Carlton and fast Fords were like in 70s 80s!!! Lotus is just clinging on right now.... Lotus are abit better than TVR and where are they Lotus should prosper with Chinese resources and looking to the future!

Yeah I think we need a cap on power from EV’s for everyday use. I have a RWD Model 3 and that is fast enough. We should concentrate on efficiency and range. Sure have a sports car but this also should be limited 500 BHP is enough.

The extra price in Australia probably has to do with the greedy Govt Luxury Car Tax brought into protect the Aust auto industry which no longer exists. However, the Govt's greediness shows no sign of letting up.

EVs generally are too powerful adding unnecessary cost. Fastest should be 5 seconds for 0 to 62 mph. Anything faster should require an additional drivers performance vehicle license to drive.

LOL - complete FUD, if you purchase a car with an LFP battery (more than 1/2 the EV's sold globally) there is no cobalt involved at all, if you purchase a Tesla there is no child-mined cobalt at all. Tesla battery makers get 100% of their cobalt from Glencore mines in deals struck by Tesla and this is audited and enforced by Tesla, not that it needs to be, cobalt mined with big-ass machines like Glencore uses is monumentally cheaper than artisnally mined cobalt. Lithium mining does not use any child labour at all ...circa. 80% of the world's lithium is mined in Australia (50%) and Chile (30%), DRC produces no Lithium at all. There is more child-mined cobalt in the world's stash of mobile phones and laptops than all the world's BEV batteries combined, the vast majority of this cobalt ends up in landfill, menawhile the vast majority of cobalt in BEV batteries is recovered (95% of a BEV battery is recovered in recycling) and ends up as valuable black mass used to make new batteries. If you drive a petrol or diesel car, 100% of the world's supply of diesel and petrol has been refined using cobalt. This line of "but what about the children"... is completly tiresome and nothing but BS. The absolute irony of this is that DRC cobalt mines where created initially to meet the demands of the fossil fuel industry as a means to get cobalt to refine crude oil into diesel and gasoline and the FF industry is the biggest investor in cobalt propaganda against EVs.

It’s not knowable, and those that do know turn their backs to it. Batteries without cobalt are inferior in heat regulation, cycle life and overall performance, so pick your poison

None of that is rebadged as these companies changed owners long time ago. Without the international tech, money and engineering these brands would long be gone. MG is owned by SAIC and not that great but allright. MG is more focused on affordable cars. Volvo and Lotus are thriving under the Geely group, the price is higher, but so is the tech and build quality.

@@Aztasu Both brands had a strong British Identity with let’s be honest flawed engineering, however I would preferred them to have died than turned into what they now are, Lotus still makes so great 2 seaters. Most of what is coming out of China is poor quality and hopefully western european buyers will have a short relationship with it.
