​@@chinesesparrowsI'm an Englishman who tried a Mooncake about 5 years ago. Yes it was fairly tough and tasteless. But the worst was that the Flour still tasted Raw and uncooked. I was quite a struggle to eat it. I wouldn't have had more than one bite, but obviously didn't want to cause offence or embarrassment.

The funny thing is, CCP blocked prices drops and kept trying to artificially raise prices (e.g. threats of losing job to public workers if they dont buy). It is clear who the enemy of the people is.

It is the CCP that set a maximum discount %, not the market. Thats why some construction companies tried to sell with perks like gold bars or helicopter ride instead of just dropping the price more, to try to skirt around CCP's limiting discounts.

The problem is, so many people have used property as investment. It is basically the only thing people invest in. Families have collected all their money just to buy one apartment. Those people will not spend money on anything in the next few years. Also, no new apartments will be built with these price drops, so all the builders will loose money.

@@eltongoaustriaco8268 Yes this is a problem, but people that where able to buy more then the apartment that they live in are better off then people that cannot even afford one apartment because to many others bought apartments as investments and drove the prices up. But for every group of people that could affort to buy more apartments there are 100 times more people that could not because of them. So yes, sucks, but hit helps the majority of the society and thereby it was needed to happen.

@@eltongoaustriaco8268 Also, I am a German National that has also lived for 20 plus years in the USA and now have lived in China going 17 plus years. Chinese people by nature always looking to improve their financial status for the family and themselves. More so then in many other countries. Ambition is not a bad thing, but it can make you take risks. I am of course married and my wife is from JiangXi province. Known her now for 13 years, and pretty much every day before the collapse of the real estate market any conversation she had with friends and family was about finding another house to invest or talking about who bought what property. She has a bought off apartment in Kunshan, another apartment that is on mortgage in the south of China and of course the Apartment I bought. She took some risks and overall it paid off. She took some risks and managed also to buy two apartments for her two kids (prior to me). And if the crash would not have happened she would have continued to play the real estate market because the gains where so high. So yes, if you invested in Real Estate you could make money, but what all this investment did was drive the bubble that created more profit that created higher risk. We talked bout the risk's before and she was fully aware of them, she knew that this bubble had to pop some day. But she still choose to take the risk, gain the profit and contribute to the bubble. And pretty much any middle class and above income family did the same. Some to the extreme. And then the market crashed. In Suzhou it was a mild crash, from when I bought my apartment just before the crash to live in to know 3 years later my my price per square meter dropped from 18000 rmb to 16000 rmb. Not that bad. Her Kunshang Apartment that she bought at 3000 rmb per sq/m but was up to about 15000 dropped to 13000, so its still 4 times more worth then she bought it. The house in the south was 5000, gone up to 8000 in 2 years and now dropped to 6000 in the last 3 years. so still a positive. Overall she risked and won. Others that bought more recent at the top of the bubble lost, BUT they know the risk. Everybody knew the risk and thereby they lose it all now because they overextended on investments, that is life. But what all this investments have done is make homes non affordable for people that needed a house to start a family, that is a bad thing for society in general. So the crash is the best and greatest thing and it needs to keep going so that houses drop another 50% In the meantime Chinese people are finding other investments. Small businesses, gold or other commodities and such. The stock market is to little return for the risk, so not very popular. The Chinese people will find something and those that lost part of their virtual fortune will recover and those that do not have fortunes will now be able to get apartments to live in. Win Win.

​@@chinesesparrows don't think that was about the building standards. It was about the crash in prices. But US regs have been greatly diminished over the years, allowing for some shoddy work and questions about why prices are what they are.

And thats in CN with tofu construction, of course price has to fall. I am also tired of rising prices, but its same in China where basic food prices (e.g. ramen, pickles) and electricity bill rose 20~70% compared to like 2 years ago.

Why it’s bad is because your prices have not dropped low enough. They need to drop a lot more - like another 90%.
