That's if you believe the 5% as real. Where western countries use GDP as a measure taken at the end of a financial years, China's is a order given at the beginning. Xi states he wants 5% and the party has to deliver or else. That's why china has 19 ghost cities, it has the world's biggest fast rail network loosing over 20 million usd per month and believe me the list just keeps on growing. China’s a weird nation in terms of economic models, a lot of the growth they claim is from internal development (massive infrastructure projects) but the this has put massive pressure on banks and local governments since the real estate sector has been either weak or crashing (depending on province) and has caused massive discomfort in the CCP since many Chinese citizens have their life savings tied up in real estate. This , among other things I won’t comment on cause this is long enough, is causing weakness in Chinese growth, and in the end they may end up like Japan who also saw a massive increase in GDP for decades before it slowly decreased to what it is today. The current Chinese economy is heavily dependent on massive growth (averaging nearly 10% a year) so having that shrink by half is a big deal to them as slower growth could cause issues in their country.

What is GDP and what is PPP? China is facing many difficulties now. China is experiencing deflation when the West is experiencing inflation. However, due to the one-party system, many difficulties are being solved efficiently without the mutual constraints of the two parties. China used to be a supplier of cheap goods to the West, but now China is taking food from the West's jobs (supplying a large number of industrial products such as EV cars). This is why the West is unhappy.

Now without that trust, they've stopped spending and investing entirely. The entire Chinese economy is in a deeply unstable slump with no trust in the government in securing prosperity. And it is the opposite, the various failing banks have lead to new waves of centralization, which means there are now far fewer institutions that actually focus and lend to households. And it doesn't help that Xi has repeated multiple times that he doesn't want to improve people's purchasing power, he wants to double down on exports, while even other BRICS countries are decoupling and slapping tariffs on Chinese products.

The CCP single party system means an opaque political and economic system, and where the money goes is therefore largely a question of what the party wants.

I don't mind the CCP, but one thing that worries me most is the growth of its population. I just want to remind the Chinese government - where are the jobs for the people - the growth must be proportional with the jobs growth. If people have no jobs - can the CCP be able to provide the unemployed with the basic cost of living - giving them shelters and foods. If they can't then then the the CCP should tell people to stop making children. In the western world those who call themselves advanced economy, the governments can give the unemployment benefits to the unemployed. Another thing I would like to warn those young people who just about to finish their high school - if they think that if they can go to university then job is guaranteed - it is not true. They are many many graduates can't find jobs or very low pay jobs. This is why the Australian government came out with a new migration law - telling those Chinese students who are studying at Australian universities that if they want to stay in Australia after they graduated then they must find a job that the company is willing to pay them $130000 salary which is impossible. If you are an engineer and can find a job, you will be likely to work for the company for at most 25 years. After you reach the age of 50, you will be likely asked to go unless you want to keep studying and get your PhD and hopefully the university is willing to hire you to teach then your working life may be extended to 65. So life is not easy. It is good to think carefully if you really want to have family and have children or even to have a child.
