Alex, I live in Victoria, BC, and I am a member of Canada China Friendship Association. I have watched all your videos on RU-vid and am so proud of your work in China.
There is a cave there, where all statuses are carved on site, instead of carving them then move in, which means one tiny mistake ruins the whole cave. Imagine that lol
@@Alex_k_Q Root carvings are also divided into two types, one is splicing and the other is overall carving. You may have never seen a large root carving that is 30 meters long. It took three years to carve and mobilized 12 to 16 sculptors to make it.
I rode the bus from Chongqing to Dazu back in 2010. A woman kept staring at me in terror. Then I realized she had never seen a foreigner before. It happens when you get out of the big cities. I met my wife in Chongqing where I worked for a few years. It's an amazing country and am always grateful to have had the experiences I did.
Dazu Grottoes was so remote. It escaped the pillage and destruction of the Mongol armies during the invasion in the Sung Dynasty. The Long men Grottoes was much bigger but most of the smaller stone carvings and buddha heads were stolen during the early 1900s and the Japanese invasion during WW2!
german chancellor currently in China with a business delegation to hold talks with chinese leaders. He landed in Chongqing lst. to visit some german factory. there. Maybe he would be given a tour of Chongqing n get to see Dazu as well before he heads to Beijing for his meetings with chinese leaders ?
Love china..so clean so disciplined and dazzling..no caste creed violence protests even if the govt.is one party system..it knows only development and upliftment of its people but in India so much of racism..caste creed and religion problem so much of violence and protests people are not happy people are becoming poorer and poorer and rich are getting richer ..no clean city ..dirt everywhere..even if it is a democratic nation like that of the USA and the European nations😂
but its very good for entertainment for poor Indian folks. India will remain where and what it is. Endia makes itself relevant by CONSTANTLY Comparing itself Against China instead of IMPROVING Indians lives!!!!😂
I like everything here in china except the government. This is prejudice, the result of long-term brainwashing by Western regimes. In the 80s and 90s, you would say China was another Myanmar or Laos. All these changes came from the leadership of the Communist Party, right? Does China look like Japan in the 90s? Bullet trains, high-rise buildings in Tokyo, clean cities, convenient life, honest people.
Wow Alex China looks absolutely amazing, I hope to be able to go there one day and to maybe even live there it just looks like a fairytale land of magic but that will have to until my next life time it won't happen in my present life time I'm afraid. Thank you for bringing to us this one and there are many beautiful places to see in China.
No way China doesn't have more. Well, China likes to build on top of stuff and be forward looking. So maybe the lost stuff is just so much it does have fewer
Beautiful. A must-see for anyone visiting Chongqing. By the way, 'z' in Chinese is not the same as the 'z' in English. It's like the 'd' in the French word 'du', as spoken by the Quebecois (and not by people from France).
As Chinese from Hangzhou, thank you for your honest presentation of my country. The world has such hatred towards China and Chinese citizens these days… to the point I’m left heartbroken reading some of the comments on China. We’re definitely not perfect in anyways, but most of us are living honest lives and it’s just weird to think China and its people are evil 😢 just because we have different political system……
Thank you so much for this accidental promotional piece. 大足/DaZu in Chinese has two obvious meanings, the first can be literally translated to a famous English name, Bigfoot. Given its ancient origin (started from the Tang Dynasty) and rich legend, this may be an easy way to remember this place. However, the name (also from the Tang Dynasty) actually came from the second meaning, all around sufficiency. At 2:17, inscribed atop the gate on black background is the expression that means, all around sufficiency to the world.
Chongqing is a mega-city of 33 million people in China. The Yuzhong district in the center of the city has a cyberpunk urban style due to its very special topography, and there is an attraction called "Hongyadong", which is very similar to the scene portrayed in the Japanese Hayao Miyazaki's manga "A Thousand and One Hidden Searches", and there are also several other places in Chongqing that have been certified as World Natural Heritage Sites by UNESCO: Jinfo Mountain, Dazu Stone Carving, Three Gorges of Yangtze River, and so on. Chongqing has several other UNESCO World Natural Heritage sites: Golden Buddha Mountain, Dazu Rock Carvings, Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, etc. We welcome friends from all over the world to come and visit us
Such an eye opening vlog! So lucky Dazu is far away from YuanMingYuan圆明园, Beijing, or they had been destroyed by the Eight-Nation Alliance八国联军 in 1900.
Alex, your normal voice sounds much better than the fake promotional voice. The images speak by themselves to the beauty of the place and the great work you are doing.
Hi Alex, I have just watched You, Carl Zha interviewing with the one and only Scott Ritta; it's unbelievably enjoyable and informative and very fancinating from start to finish , the entire show. I've been living in Phoenix, Arizona for 40 years now and thinking about retiring in a year or two to Oslo, Norway . I think Chongqing is my second choice now or it might become the first . We'll see.
I can imagine, the Dazu rock carvings are what the Dunhuang grottos would have looked like before conflicts and lootings took their tolls on the relics and artifacts in the caves. Btw, just curious, how did the town Dazu get its name? Dazu means big foot in Chinese.
Luv your work. Journalists on CGTN The Point-Hub-Heat are amazing, documentaries Uyghure Autonomous Region-Tibet-Terracotta Warriors Spring Festival Gala WOW...Did you know Canada has a CP, nice flag
Went there two weeks ago finally, have experienced and seen some extraordinary scenes and amazing food, the night view by the river is incredible too 😊 1. People in Chong Qing must have strong legs 😁 2. Will never order medium level for hotpot there, has to be lighter one 🥵 3. Don’t tell the taxi driver ( yellow Ferrari ) you are in a hurry if you can’t handle speed 😅
Based on your logic, we should demolition the White House, all the historical sites, all the church, universities etc…..all these places were built on the blood of slaves
@@darvidkoh2707 Sorry that was a satirical comment. Whenever the western media reports about some positive chinese achievement they add the phrase "But at what cost" in the headline to smear it - if they report it at all in the first place. I even read an article a while ago, about chinas successes in the fight against cancer and even there they used this phrase. It is beyond ridicoulus...
