On June 21, 2024, China issued new guidelines that include the death penalty for "die-hard" Taiwan independence separatists.
In response, residents of Taiwan have voiced their opinions on the matter. Lai Ching-te emphasized that only the people of Taiwan have the right to decide their own future.
