First, we leased this port, not through aggression or unequal treaties. Second, we will build this port and improve the port’s infrastructure for free, which means that when we return the port to this country, it will be a usable port, rather than a "disused port." Third, this is a completely voluntary and equal transaction. There is no persecution by one party on the other. Fourth, we will not bomb you with our allies because you do not sell me oil.

While I understand the game China is playing, I find the concern of the West for Africa as rather shallow and fake. It's not so much that the West cares about African people but rather feels threatened by a new rising player.
@hihihui1
@hihihui1 3 года назад
Well said. The west has never cared for the welfare for other countries or its people. It’s always had agendas even before the rise of Russia and China. Only now this “concern” for Chinese expansion is a last ditch and desperate effort to hold onto what little power they have left. Honestly I feel China as a world power might be a nice change. At least they don’t go around invading countries for oil. Fuck USA.

@Gaia_Gaistar

You rather they ignore it? Even if it's shallow and fake it's better than nothing. Man 1: "Aww, you idiot, you fell in the quicksand. Gimme your hand before you drown and get me in trouble." Man 2: "No, I don't want your help. You don't really care about me."
@joemam12
@joemam12 3 года назад
@@hihihui1 Lol..they just militarized the whole South China sea, relentless provocations against all nations in the seas around them, threaten Taiwan with war almost on a weekly basis, and rekindled the conflict with India (where people died) just last year--not to mention what it's done to its own people. Is it as bad as the US invasions, no. But this situation isn't a "I like China" vs "I like the US" predicament. Both are quite flawed, but also have positives IMO. And if you take the position of "Country A: Good,, Country B: Bad", you're seriously missing so much about geopolitical dynamics.

the west enslaved Africa by the sword and massacre in Africa. Thiaroye massacre, Namaqua genocide, gruesome massacre, The Wiriyamu massacre and many many more and we have one example for chines way of enslave by debt , hambantato port. that they can use for military base. on the other hand - According to David Vine, professor of political anthropology at the American University in Washington, DC, the US had around 750 bases in at least 80 countries as of July 2021. The actual number may be even higher as not all data is published by the Pentagon.

Heck the US did this to Colombia as well. they funded a separatist movement in Panama which 130 yrs ago was part of Colombia, the rebels decided to revolt and demanded the province of panama become a sovereign nation which of course the US supported that decision. In return they offer Colombia some tiny islands off the coast of Nicaragua (which in those days was not liking the USA ways of doing business) they proceeded to built the canal and told panama they will own it for 99 yrs as well, The rest is history.

Finally someone read my mind, US is getting stupider and only focus on some problems in the world and distracted by their own issues, lol it’s so easy for me to see desperate people gel for each other, Most African Countries are desperate for help because they’re poor and China desperate to spread their power because they have money, I can predict all this things cause it’s so easy, and US is racist enough to not help African Countries at all, and this is why everything happened like how it is, I knew long ago debt will be Chinas Weapon, their main goal are easy to see, they want to be the world’s super power along with Russia and spreading communism, if they can advance to Africa, geogically its close to the US, and Europe, and to surround them, while US military only go around the Ocean, US don’t think about The Land like South America and Africa Continents where enemies can go close to the Western Countries, While Russia Surrounding Europe and US from the North and Continent of South America, Russia and China trying to control these land to get back at the US, they can build a nuclear missile in Africa/South America close enough to hit these western countries, not because China just is rich, The pandemic really is a distraction of the bigger picture of what is happening in China and by the way don’t be RACIST because I say all of these Ok. Chinese governments and Russian Governments are the one who did these not the people

China uses debt to coerce and blackmail countries into giving up information, taking certain positions in the UN, and publicly defending China in order to make China seem less evil in the world's eyes. They take natural resources and ocean docks. It's disgusting. It's turning African countries into slave countries, just like Europe did in the 1800's

The issue with Kenya's railway is simple. 1.We needed the infrastructure to support development. 2. The Chinese segregated themselves from Kenyans but we would have segregated ourselves from the Chinese workers all the same. 3. They built the railway because if it had been left to Kenyan contractors they would have inflated the price and cut corners on build quality In short it's better to hand over our ownership to the ports (if we default) but still have a chance to continue developing than to wait for the west to give us high interest loans and still own us. And lastly, don't forget that currently most of the major European ports are partially Chinese owned

That’s nothing compared to Russian/Soviet espionage though. Russia has always run circles around the US when it comes to espionage, but we will see if that’s still true in 50 years when espionage campaigns get declassified. Keeps asking what is China's motive, but he never really hits the mark. There are 3 types of motives for China. 1) short term economic motives involves exporting China's excessive construction capacities. These projects keeps the Chinese construction sector growing, all those constructions needs materials and expertise, a railroad projects requires concrete, steel, to the smallest things like seat covers or the fire extinguishers, all of these things can be bought from China. So China is using its massive US dollar foreign reserves to boost demand in Chinese goods and materials, but doing it abroad. This is seriously a smart move. 2) political motives, Africa as a continents has the most sovereign nations of all continents, 54. That's very useful in the UN general assembly. 3) long term economic goals. China seeks to develop Africa into a market for Chinese goods as well as capital goods, this needs to involve building up a stable supply chain for manufacturing in Africa. These economies would then need to buy Chinese machineries. Factories set up through Chinese investment, would also prioritize Chinese machineries and materials. This would create a symbiotic relationship between China and Africa. So the ultimate goal for China is to build up Africa, which is why the often touted, "debt trap" doesn't make any sense. China wants to make a good return in their investment, NOT hoping for the African country to default on its debt, something that hurts China financially. And would be detrimental to the long term goal of China in Africa.
@xingchenfan7923
@xingchenfan7923 3 года назад
Very well said! Falling into the debt trap is definitely the last thing that China wants to see happens on those countries. But there is a potential drawback. As the ecnomical tie between China and Africa gets stabler, the racial tension between two peoples will emerge since the human resources are more frequently exchanged. This is something that non-Chinese usually can't see. Chinese society is very conservative in terms of racial equality.

Some of them seem to forget that the IMF and World Bank require countries to privatize and pass austerity measures and when America doesn't like a leader they overthrow them or kill them off including the democratically elected ones such as Zelaya in Honduras in 2009. I am Kenyan. The railway funding story is true. However I put all negative outcomes at the feet of Kenyan leaders and ultimately myself who chose these leaders. My fellow Africans, we need to frame our own narratives and not rely on other people's interpretation of events. Everyone including the US has massive Chinese debt. The problem we have in Kenya is we walk to the negotiating table like emasculated beings. This is a business relationship - they have capital , we have undeveloped high growth, high return industries. Nobody is going to help us including bleeding heart Americans with a woishe attitude towards us - they are annoying and super emasculating. We need to grow some balls and negotiate as true equals at the table. Chinese are not evil. Unchecked empires invading your land is evil. At least this time they are not holding a gun to our head. The British invaded us, decimated our institutions and left us with a confused identity - trauma which we are still trying to heal from. This time we have a choice on the terms of engagement.

The real question should be why did the security team not catch these from the start, these are pretty routine processes in IT security. Also much of African struggle is actually quite simple, the drawn borders do not reflect natural boundaries nor culture groups, they were made to create conflict. Like what is happened in the Middle East.

There’s a saying in China called “想致富,先修路” which means “if you want to get rich, build roads first”. In very remote areas, people have a hard time going to school, going to work, going to the market or people from outside going in like doctors, supplies, etc. That’s why there’s a lot of road and railway investments.

First of all, excuse the username, it's from a video game character i like. I am South African and this video shed some light on a cartoon illustration by Zapiro (famous South African cartoonist). There were 2 people in the picture: 1 was a Chinese official walking off with the continent of Africa in a wheelbarrow and the other person was the South African president counting the money he'd just gotten from the Chinese. The image NEVER left me and today...TODAY! I finally understand why it bothered me so heavily. Thanks for the vid

@@hlgstowig9405 it literally doesn't matter. if the valuation of products are identical and the buying power is the same then the actual comparative value of nominal quantities of different currencies means absolutely nothing. if it costs $6 CAD or AUD to buy something thats $4 USD or 3 GBP or EUR, in each respective country and $6 CAD/AUD = $4 USD = 3 GBP/EUR, everyone is paying exactly the same price and the currencies and goods will continue to be interchangeable relative to its international value. if the average australian makes $90,000 AUD / year and the average american makes $30,000 USD a year when the currencies are $6 AUD = $4 USD, the average australian is making 2.2x more money than the average american. if things cost 2.2x more in australia, then the spending power of the australian will be the same as the american. P.S. i originally wanted to use $60,000 AUD as an easy in your head comparison, knowing it was slightly low, and $30,000 USD thinking it would be extremely low, then i checked and the australian salary is actually $90,000 and the us salary was pretty much correct. americans are just poor lol. also the exchange rate i used was slightly off because i was using pre covid numbers. its actually $6 AUD to $4.6 USD. i dont think things are 2.2x as expensive in australia as america (they are more expensive, just not 2.2x) so the buying power in australia is higher than america, irrespective of the value of the currency. that means an australian travelling to america with his AUD will be able to buy a lot more than an american travelling to australia with their USD.

With my limited knowledge on this topic , I have friends in Jamaica who expressed concerns about a major tollway system that was built by them. Improved traveling across the country no doubt, beautiful and well designed, I've driven on it. The general concept to me is they are gambling on these countries which are notorious to have corrupt political leaders, Jamaica's politicians are beyond corrupted and it's no secret. Therefore, the gamble pays off when the loans are heading towards default and in Jamaica's case, they have lost control over one of it's major ports. Lands surrounding the tollway is also up for grabs and unfortunately there will always be someone corrupted enough that can be bought in order to make the land grab much easier. To be fair, Ch!na has benefited the citizens in many life saving ways, offering various affordable pharmaceuticals, affordable food items etc. Quality can always be debated but this is a country where many have little options when it comes to every day survival.
