I took the same train to Sapa 2 years ago, it was so bumpy at night that I was unable to sleep well. The trains were made in China and the railway was built by Frenchmen 100 years ago.😅
I am argentinian and I have been living here for a year, besides to how safe you fell at any time of the day or night, one of the other positive aspect I found here is how friendly and helpful the people is, trying to communicate with you in your language even being in their country
Oh look the spineless CCP propaganda machine is here. You've said some truly braindead shit over the years and there's proof of you being funded by the Chinese government. Just FYI for anyone considering subscribing to his videos; he's literally a tool of propaganda. Go listen to his thoughts on what's happening the the uyghurs or Taiwan - actually a direct conveyor of lies and fueling communism. I like china and chinese people, but fuck the ccp.
As a Serbian when I saw picture of Slobodan Milosevic in some random Chinese gallery I was in shock. Even we don't have him anywhere here. Anyway much love for great people of China!
@@hissingsidll750Certainly not for the British who have to put up with 150k traitors of their own kind, now living on British taxpayers bed and board.
I love that you've finally been to China! Can't believe I went there a full decade before you though. It is genuinely a wonderful country, sure it has problems, lots of them, but the people are brilliant. (Oh and last time I commented something similar all the trolls came out, I don't care what you think, thanks!)
The last lady who mends sweaters actually means that you are welcome to see the night view of Chongqing. The night view of Chongqing is extremely beautiful.
And all it took was a ruthless and tyrannical government obliterating any rights and freedoms and mercilessly clamping down on any opposition. So maybe don't shill TOO hard.
no, he (taxi driver) just was confused for a second until he realized that Bald is a foreigner and an easy target... otherwise, he would have given the change to Bald until he explicitly declined it and decided to make such generous guesture...
Bald made a point of tipping the taxi driver. When I left Vietnam, I also gave all my Vietnamese money(Dong) to shoppers or taxi drivers, because Vietnamese Dong is useless after I came back from traveling. In general, Vietnamese people are quite friendly, I rarely encountered scammers, and hotels and food are also very affordable.
Its not all perfect yet. The older generation still smokes a lot everywhere and spits on the ground but the younger generation won't have those habits.
Go to touristy places in Beijing, like Tiananmen Square, and you will be approached by good English-speaking beautiful Chinese girls who will take you to coffee shops and bars to scam.
Imagine getting your toenails done in Chongqing, not suspecting anything bad - while suddenly a bald, white guy with sunglasses and a blue Ralph Lauren sweater starts filimg your feet while spouting random, chinese words 🤣
I'm a Brit, a Geordie, been living in China for 19 years... 10 years in Shanghai, and then Wuxi and Nanjing... I've driven 100s of thousands of KM all over this country, from Shanghai to Sichuan, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia.... watching the changes has beeen incredible...
We traveled across China by train and spent a few nights in Chongqing in August. The people there were incredibly friendly and wanted to take photos with us all the time-being two fair-haired Europeans, we stood out. It almost felt like being a rock star.:D
This is a stark contrast after watching your India videos. Its wild to think just 50ish years ago, India was actually richer than China. What an insane job they have done in catching up. Looking forward to the rest of the China series.
That just completely changed my opinions about China, everything I've been taught by our media portrays it as a dystopian society where life matter little. The reality, thanks to Bald and Bankrupt is that the people are respectful, kind, friendly towards foreigners and the infrastructure puts our societies to shame. I would honestly like to visit China and I'm sure I'm not alone after watching this. Thank you.
Welcome to China, i have been stick to your contents for years, and finally you have made ur way to tour China, the vast country that could undoubtedly exceed ur expectation, Have good time in China wherever you might head to explore in person!
I'm in china myself (Xi'an atm), although I was already into Chinese culture and been learning the language for some years I was also pleasantly surprised when I arrived, sure there are some poorer areas, but the rate of improvement is amazing. I'm having a great time!
Can’t say I’m a long time watcher… but I’ve binged in the last month almost everything you’ve put out. Love your content, and hope one day on my travels to bump into you!
Have not watched this one just yet. Just want to say Mr Bald I finally clicked on one of your videos (Afghanistan) out of curiosity, followed by your migrant journey up through the Darien Gap. Proceeded to binge everything and I've just seen your videos of visiting the lonely villagers in Belarus radioactive zone, I was crying over those ones. You have quickly become one of my favourite channels on YT and I massively appreciate your window you offer of the world, of countries and places I would never think to visit, always so charismatic and making friends everywhere you go and showing the humanity in everyone. Absolutely amazing job sir and please please keep doing what you're doing, Very very much love from N.Ireland ❤
Waiting for your video after watching Backpacker Ben's. Looking forward for more of your videos from China because I think you are a straight talker and speaks your mind.
Backpacker Ben mentioned how Bald had a difficult time getting into China, took hours he said. Was hoping Bald would explain what happened, but he omitted it.
I have lived in Hanoi for many years, if I had known you were coming here I would have had a beer with you. By the way, @13:34 the sign says "Warmly celebrating 75 years anniversary of the founding of the people's republic of China" a very nice greeting. Great video mate, I always enjoy your videos.
This was one of your greatest videos I saw on the channel. There were many but this one is superb from beginning to end. Narration is superb, natural as it comes, full of witty and humorous at the same time. Chong Qing is a pleasant surprise! China is superb!
Honestly as a Chinese, it’s part of my amusement to read the comment section of western videos these days. Yes yes yes, social credit score is definitely real. Yes yes yes we are oppressed. Yes yes yes we live in buildings that fall apart the moment you touch it. Tell yourself whatever you need to go to sleep nice and comfy 😁
Because he keeps it real, doesn't overact, doesn't use fancy editing, and doesn't go immediately always go looking for the roughest area he can exploit for views. While I don't mind people bringing attention to the plight of the poor, it's getting awfully boring watching videos about British squalor, especially when the video makers don't have a clue why such poverty exists. Bald at least attempts to tell some history.
Fabulous video, hope you continue doing these for many years to come, as others have said, it's a good day when there's a bald and bankrupt upload. What an amazing country China looks.
Welcome to China. Been living here for 8 years now. Lived in a small city in Inner Mongolia, a large one on the east coast, and now the national capital. Travel as much as I can, and barely scratched the surface. Already seen so much change. Love it here. There's so much to see, it's impossible to see it all. Thanks for an honest look at the place. As you say, there's very little nuance in the China commentary-sphere. Glad you fought the temptation to clickbait one way or the other.
You are a shill living in the West. You aren't in China, that's for sure. RU-vid isn't available in China. Unless you are breaking the law? Do I have to report you? I suggest turning yourself into the authorities.
Or the best ad for "we track your every movement and every transaction you make". Big Brother is watching. At least the people of China have it foisted upon them, we accept it willingly in the west, so who is the fool here?
As a Chinese I hate "tofu building" and I admit we do have tofu building. but think about this, China start to develop from 1980s. before that China GDP was same with Indian. just 40 years, China has built the world-class infra, e.g., 46000km high-speed railway, 10000km subway and 1 million bridges. all of data can be found through google. I didn't list high-rise buildings and other mega projects. usually China give these infra projects to the construction firms, but some of the construction firms has corruption, I believe every country has corruptions as well. given the huge buildings and massive infra China built during the past 40 years. the Tofu project ratio is pretty low. let's see what US, EU and US looks like today, they stop build the massive infra after 1990s. most of the buildings in US and UK were old one. so no new building, no new corruption, no tofu building. let's look at Indian, Indian infra isn't the same level with China. however Indian has 5 bridges collpased during 2 weeks, all can be found through youtuber. I wasn't surprised to see the Tofu buildings in China at all. because it developed so fast, there is always bad guy and bad company in any country.
@@Icarus07c that what you may think. just think about how does 1% of society own the whole population with the majority of the population living in extreme poverty
@FrankZhang-pj9nn I'm not Indian my dude, I'd just infinitely prefer living in a free country than an authoritarian dictatorship like China. If the CCP wasn't paying you to post this, you could go to jail for using RU-vid.
@@Icarus07cYeah as an American with no perspective on the world we really care about which of two countries you've never been to you'd prefer to live in
So in terms of the cages on the windows, I think they were installed to prevent theft and burglary in the past. Growing up you do hear tales about thieves breaking in through the windows, even if you live on the higher up floors. But I don’t think that happens anymore, which is why you don’t really see them installed on newer buildings. People probably just didn’t bother to remove the old ones.
To correct the statement in the video: China was not defeated by Vietnam, but the Chinese army had almost reached Hanoi, and finally retreated on its own initiative like in the Sino-Indian War, because China did not intend to occupy the capital of other countries.
...a formal request was made by the USSR to cease the advance.... the USSR was the single greatest military power in the world ever, and had done alot for China in the name of the communist revolution... understandably they acquiesced.
why the hell did you lie? china never went to hanoi, they barely moved an inch on the Vietnam border. it's was only Deng's Xiaoping's think this war was pointless so he retreated
Bald, I just wanted to tell you that I've been watching your videos for years at this point, and despite all the hostility you get for god knows what, I can genuiniely say that your content is among the best on this platform and beyond. The insights you give us into different cultures and that you are willing to say and show things as they really are instead of a media talking point from any perspective is truly worth more than gold. Thank you so much for doing this and I wish you all the best for your future travels!
CHONGQING 20 years ago and it was foggy/smoggy every day for 2 weeks. Interesting city with many 30+ million, friendly people. I met a couple of English speaking foreigners there who had businesses there also. Thanks for the tour.
Welcome to China, where world-class infrastructure, unparalleled convenient and fast payment methods, friendly and lovely people, clean and orderly living environment, magnificent mountains and rivers, and various cultures blend together. Enjoy your life in China, my friend
I just got back from UK, and I must say I was quite impressed with the ease of travel over there. Custom and border entry at the airport were super smooth, just a scanning of the passport. I didn't even need to talk to anyone. Traveling on trains, buses, the underground, or the ferries was super easy, just a tap of the credit or Apply Pay to pay the fare at the gate. There was certainly no security check. Traffic on the road in London was another story.
Visited China and it’s a breath of fresh of fresh from Jamaica. It was the first time I felt relaxed and safe and didn’t have to be constantly switched on for stray bullets or drive by’s
I have traveled around to China Beijing, shanxi, shengzheng, shanghai, fujian, and Yunnan since 2014, and after ten years, i landed on China again. Whats the big differences is the toilet wash room and peoples don't spitting much more.
All this guy does is and with his friends he comes to India and he is proud about how India was a colony and wants to praise that, all the while demeaning India. Well that's British people heritage then why would they not be proud about that. You can do that even in 2047 when we would have a larger share of the world's economy's compared to other country's. Feel proud of what you did in the 19th century when what did you achieve now.
Great episode Ben! Back to proper solo travel, with wonderful learning along the way. You are certainly picking up the lingo quickly. Hopefully there will be more episodes to come, especially with the new hottie/seamstress.😉
Lived in China for 5 years but went back to my homecountry because the were not leaving me alone.. Got scary after a while. Knowing someone was in my apartment when i wasn’t there. Got so many to tell but i’ll really hooe they will let you alone Bald ❤
I started following you three years ago, you have been to a lot of communist countries, very special experience, I wonder why you didn't go to China. The day has finally arrived! I hope you can stay there a little longer
