I am Chinese and I have been to India for twice recently. India is like great melting pot. people in different states speak different language with different culture. Indian people are kind and nice to hang out with. I have already a couple of Indian friends. I am happy that Indian people understand English so that it is quite easy stay for me. I believe India has great potential to be super power. We (Chinese) have nothing against India and we are happy to see India's success. Let's have positive mind,do not bashing each other like babies fighting on nothing but bad. Remember that easy to make enemy while hard to make friends.
After watching this video, I think. In just 6 years we have been developed so much. Now India is the second largest internet using country and has cheapest internet in the world also.

UPDATE 2020: 4 years later in India: 1. Cheap internet everywhere due to Jio. (100mbps true unlimited internet for 15 dollars!!!) 2. Much more easy to open buisness. 3. Increased redtape. Just buy everyone off to get away with anything. 4. More Infrastructure and huge sky scrapers in Gurgaon, Noida, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore etc. 5. Increased use of English. 6. @Cpamoi Lafait Well, they were in the making and the fruits are bearing now I guess. For example: The fiber optics infrastructure for the internet was started laying back in 2006 or 2008. The skyscrapers were built on huge farmlands. The farmers started getting very very rich during the 2000-2010 because of big companies buying their lands at high rates. I think it's faster to build things when the world unites. We just brought in every innovation. Many American, Russian, European, Korean, Japanese and now Chinese companies have huge investments here which is why India is what it is today.
I have been to India many times and find the people humble, friendly and accommodating, yes scams exist everywhere, I have also been to China and my impression is you only see what Chinese want you to see and language is a big problem. I would rather be in India than China, India is a great place

I lived in Bengaluru, Karnataka for two month around a decade ago. It was a fascinating experience. The people were incredibly nice. The food was delicious. I’m not a big clubber or drinker, so I can’t really speak to that aspect. The two items that made the biggest impression on me were: 1. Dogs. Dog packs were everywhere. They have their own functioning society in the city. Humans don’t bother the Dogs. Dogs don’t bother the Humans. On the streets in the US, you will occasionally encounter dogs that are furtive, fearful, and avoidant. In India, there was a pack territory, less than a hundred feet from the main entrance to the building I worked in. Thousands of people used that entrance every day. More than fifty dogs were completely feral and unafraid. 2. Acceptable Risk. People in Bangalore (Bengaluru’s former name) were willing to accept a level of risk in their personal lives that seemed incomprehensible to me. Five people (Father, Mother, three children) on a 125cc bike seemed insane when I first saw it. By the end of my time, it was just background noise.
I am studying in Mangalore and trust me when I say he only showed One side of that place. Mangalore is a educational center as in there are ton of colleges with students coming from different parts of India. And the place is developed with malls and pubs far better than the ones he showed. Good pubs are London street, Top house, Recycle, Spindrift, G Lounge, Liquid Lounge , Bollywood adda, Froth on top etc. The most fanciest being Onyx. And yes, there are no Free Wifi, because most WiFi are password protected but you can go to internet cafes or small internet package if you need. The places he showed were mostly in the outskirts of Mangalore city, with parts that doesn't show the shopping malls. I don't know if he is intentionally trying to hide to potray a particular image or not but it may be that he didn't have a proper guide to show around. But with the advent of JIO, internet is the cheap and more easily available in India now. So it can also be your timing.
This was very enlightening. I am in an Indian community and found them to be the perfect neighbors. They are clean living people. I suspect the British had a lot to do with the pillaging of their country. I wish you would have spoken more on the difference you found in Indian cuisine found in India and outside of India. It appears to be the same case when comparing it with the authenticity problem found with Chinese food. That would make a lovely segment, all politics aside of course.
THE most common restaurant main dish in Northern India is probably Chicken or Vegetable Manchurian - which is an Indian take on Chinese cuisine... You hardly ever find that in the UK, but Chicken Tikka Masala, which is everywhere here, was invented here as a take on Indian cuisine. I've always found this quite amusing.

The head shaking is actually quite interesting serpentza. It comes from ancient times, in memorizing the Vedic texts vis a vis the discreet sounds of Sanskrit. Because India was primarily an oral culture (originally) and because the Vedas were memorized, each turn of the head corresponded to a discreet sound in the text. Hence, to better memorize the text, the body was incorporated by moving the head deliberately per each discreet sound (kind of like a syllibal). You can still see groups of Indian children, heads turning in sequence, as the Vedas, Upanishads and other Brahmanic Text are recited at religious schools.

I've been to India and I'll tell you exactly why: they go on their apps or ask around and look for the absolute cheapest everything. Cheapest hotel, cheapest restaurant, cheapest rik shaw, etc. And the cheapest is always the dirtiest. When I moved from clicking on the listing marked $ to clicking on the listing marked $$, things got better.
Fact of the matter is that urban India is dirty and only when Indians acknowledge this and rectify this, that things would improve. Always finding excuses is not going to improve things in India. When I was growing up, I would admonish my friends who would litter the street with trash, eg, food wrappers, newspapers, etc and they would get really angry at me and ask me if I’m a westerner to teach them civility. I have been to over 120 countries and many of them are dirt poor. Yet, India is the only country where I’ve seen open defecation and urination. Truth.

Problem with foreign tourists is that they came to India with a presumption that travelling there is dirt cheap. So they usally end up visiting slum areas and dingy places that cost them close to nothing and that crates a negative image of the country. India is very vast and its population is spread out evenly throughout so its obvious that you will find a lot of undevloped places whereas in china its 95% population is located on the eastern coastline so you only see the good parts. Had he visited Gurugram, Hydrabad city, New Delhi or many other devloped parts of the counrty then this video could have been more justified.

Specially Young people doesn't want relatives or family friends to see him drinking in a bar or happens to be seen by relative drinking in the same bar hence private cubical. Drinking is not considered good habit in India. Young people if found drinking have to face wrath of parents and family.

Every place in India is a completely different place to be in, you can find all sort of things here within one country. With this fact I would say that the things you did say about India wasn't true India, rather a small part of India which only tells you about that area. I was born here in India and have visited most of it, and honestly, you will find a whole new India in every state you visit.

I have noticed that wifi access is more of a luxury in India. For general population to access the Internet in public places, India has a plethora of small shops with Internet access and photocopier machines and printers, called "cyber cafes". these are very very common in almost all towns and cities and hourly prices range from usd 0.33 to 0.45 😀😀. I too face the same issue when visiting any city in India outside the city where my mom lives.

+Bikram Das Actually the 1990's and early 2000's were when internet cafes were aplenty in India. Now, due to the advent of 3G and Cable internet, those cafe's have shut down.

It's not that easy to develop it in the same manner as of those nations with almost all citizens follow same religion and have many common things among them. Unless u visit the whole of India u don't understand y i am saying this. It's very easy to develop a country like china where all people almost look same, speak same language, have same identity, same religion, lack of internet freedom, and most importantly only one political party there to rule in continuation. Where as in India there are 23 officially recognised languages which are spoken by millions of people and another 1000s of dialects, coming to relegion hindus, muslims, christians, budhists, sikhs, and many other relegions in large nos live in India. all of Indain people does't look same there are blacks, whites, browns, many more. U name a thing u will find diversity. As an Indian i have always cursed politicians for not to developing India like China but after a lot of close look at how India and it's citizens live i can say that only thing that is hindering the fast development of India is It's diversity in almost everything which actually is the ESP of India. India is so different then Serbia when comes to drinking..here you come in city square or city parks and you will see mens and girls all over the place drinking alcohol everywhere ..actually you will have hard time find someone who does not drink no matter men or woman
Shellina Musa I know many Aussies drink themselves blind, but even though I'm an Aussie, I don't drink, except very very occasionally, but even then I don't have much. Sadly years ago, when I was a teenager, I lost one of my friends to drink driving, so it kind of put me off alcohol.
I am drunk every weekend(last night 2) and yes drinking and driving is very bad...when i was in my 20s i drived even when i was totally drunk many many times and i had 3 assidents that could get me killed but was lucky that was not hurt every time (one time i drove in 2 the river off the bridge in middle off winter believe you or not ) ...but now i dont do it any more(i lost drivers licence few times for 3-6 months because off drunk driving) ..i go with taxy now when going out..girls are problem because even you are drunk they want you to drive them home after going out and you dont want to refuse them because if you dont drive them someone else will ..but now i dont..i dont want to drive drunk any more

Im indian who lives in India. I have been to several european countries, australia, new zeland, usa (you get it, i've travelled and stayed abroad) but CHINA is by far the best country I have been to. Why? The sense of discipline, hospitality, under stated-ness is shocking. And cities like Shanghai, Shenzen, Yivu and HK were amazing. Two things that were terrible about China? The food and the aviation experience.
You're pretty spot on with your observations. Being an indian american, I deal with the same challenges when I'm visiting. However as far as the drinking is concerned, it surprised me. Although I've never been to Mangalore, most cities have fantastic pubs & bars that you can hangout, have a few drinks and the good part is that they'll serve you great food, better than any of our american bar food is. The WiFi thing is pretty true, its hard for locals to understand some of the amenities we're used to. The relatively dated infrastructure in the country is catering to 1.3B people; but they're modernizing pretty quickly be it airports, transportation, communication, hotels etc. All in all great review. The guy in the above video happened to visit a small town which is extremely Religious (Like the Indian version of Mini Vatican City). Many people drink in India, One of my uncles has a Cabinet full of drinks at his place, stocked up all the time :D
+Snarky White Guy Lets be clear, in all major cities and at all decent hotels (3+ stars), there are plenty of bars. pubs, etc. There is no shortage of high caliber drinking and low caliber drinking spots in India, just like US and Europe...
+Just another Atheist I'm from Mangalore and its not an extremely religious city, drinking is not frowned upon there. I was surprised that he had difficult time finding a good bar in Mangalore.

I'm curious. Are you willing to compare what speed you get for how much money with mine? Here in the UK I get 10Mbps and pay £30 a month for it. (Admittedly I live in a rather bad region for internet. Every town around mine has fibre connection, whilst mine still doesn't yet.)

Well India is certainly a lot better off than most muslim countries now - see where their belligerent and confrontational culture got them. Not sure what you did see in 10 days in India ... unfortunately a very distorted view other than dirt & noise:-). India actually grows on you as you spend time in the country! Just for some facts: 1. Alcoholic Beverages : Shops and Bars are controlled/restricted by Govt and getting a license to operate is very expensive. So it is limited in numbers in some States (Gujarat, Andhra pradesh, Bihar etc.) and plenty in others (Goa, West Bengal, Andamans, Kerala etc.) including most big cities. All States in India have different licensing procedures and in some states it is completely banned. 2. There is nothing called a typical 'Indian Food'. The taste and the menu varies in all 29 States! Food available in Northern Indian States are different than what is popular in Southern India. Similarly Eastern India and Western Indi are completely different. Likewise, eating beef is legit in many states. 3. Eating Vegetarian food is a habit for many as they are doing so for many generations! In general, Indians prefer to eat some vegetable dishes even when they normally eat non-vegetarins. Please watch some vloggers and you would find that you have limited exposure. No offense meant. For foreigners, India is so welcoming, even more welcoming than the Scandinavia countries like Swiss. Once you got out of the airport, literally no one brothers you, no reporting police stations, no receiving sort-of-threat texts or calls from the authority. You can do anything what Indian citizens do. The metro system is so awesome and we don’t have show any ID to purchases tokens. Since many of them speak English proficiently, they are friendly and helpful if you need help. Incredible India 🇮🇳.
