As a Betawinese people (ethnic native Jakarta), yes, that's PIK (island reclamation), the new Chinatown area in Jakarta and there are lots of ongoing projects there and if you really want to see the oldest Chinatown in Jakarta, you can go to the Glodok area in West Jakarta 😇
not like in cina, japan or korea, a good quality pork in Indonesia is a little bit more expensive than beef because there's not a lot of pig farm in indonesia. but if you want to taste the real OG and authentic chinese food in jakarta you need to go to glodok chinatown. because in PIK it's more like a tourist place than a real chinatown and the chinese food are the modernized version of the real one
You should try food in old chinatown in Jakarta and surrounding city. Glodok is home to numerous delicacy, both halal and non halal. Bogor, Tangerang, and Bandung chinatown also host some of nice chinese-indonesian food
Yes Ya Kun originated from Singapore and it's super crowded, recently they increased the prices significantly.. If done right the toast should have been super crispy!
Hi Jimmy! I hope you meet a local to show you their favorite street food in Jakarta. Don't forget to eat Nasi Padang and Martabak Manis and Asin too while you're in Indonesia. Have fuunnn
@@Jim_Colbert haha, it sure packs a *loooot* of calories! But it's one of those beloved specialties in Indonesia and I haven't seen similar dishes in other countries😄
Pik actually new brand city in jakarta, this city was build for wealthy indonesian, so the prices about double from the normal one. It actually pretty big city.
Did you find empty seats easily there? I went to other jakarta chinatown food court called "petak enam" in glodok, and it was so damn difficult to find empty seats.
Indonesians sure seem warm and friendly. 🇮🇩☀️ 3:57 Recognition is always precious validation 😌 8:16 Elevating the video through poses🤘🏼 10:08 Sweetness of innocence 👧🏻 10:12 A helpful local viewer pointing Jimmy in the right direction 👉🏼
For the mix pork, the regular one is crispy pork belly and the red one is char siew, its the cooking method and sauce for char siew that makes the difference. I'm also not too sure why Ya Kun and these breakfast toast places are very popular, but its mostly cultural. People dip the toast in soft boiled egg with pepper and soy sauce while drinking local coffee.
You should go to Pasar Lama Tangerang. You'll find various street snacks there, especially Indonesian. You should try Sate Gurita Si Endut (Squid Skewers), Es Podeng Nenek (looks like Patbingsu), Es Kuwut Bali, Bakmie Kepiting Hokie, Sate Ayam H. Ishak, etc. 😅😅😅
Terima kasih atas kerja kerasnya.kamsahamnida...
haha aww it's ok. I do like kaya toast and always bought tiny jars of kaya jam as souvenirs for my foreign friends! But no worries, maybe it's not your thing. There's still tons of other good food here! Thanks for giving us a try though :) @@jimmykimtv
Hey Jimmy, it's kinda funny because last weekend I just went here and ate the same hainanese chicken. anyway this chinatown attracts a lot of local tourist and it is located in PIK, which is where many rich (mostly chinese) live. so they really have to ensure their cleanliness
That first food you had looks really good 4:16 i would of loved to try it myself. The sausage 🤤 in it would be enough for me to buy it and try it. Hopefully one day i could travel to japan or south Korea and try the food i bet it would be a experience for me.
2:34 Despite its namesake, Hainanese chicken rice does not technically originate from China. Instead, the was dish invented by Hainanese immigrants in Southeast Asia, and now it’s commonly found in countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia. 6:39 Sure, we can do our own toasts at home, but proper _kopitiams_ (coffee shops) make their own coconut jam and they brew better coffee/tea. Ya Kun Kaya Toast is from Singapore and they’re very popular, but in my opinion there are local Indonesian _kopitiams_ that serve better Southeast Asian-style breakfast. 8:38 There are various styles of _sate babi_ or pork satay in Indonesia, but this sweet kind that’s sold there is popular in Chinatowns across the country,
that chicken isnt really tender because they are using kampong chicken, usually its more expensive than usual chicken (broiler), that place is very famous near my place yum
Interesting, we don't have a Chinatown in brazil, but we have the Liberty Neighborhood, who has lot's of migrants from Asian countries, the majority are Japanese, but there are still Koreans, Chinese and Vietnamese.
Of course indonesian nasi goreng different from other countries because indonesia has special seasoning called kecap manis (sweet soysauce) , which make the taste sweet and savory 😂😂 Also whats make nasi goreng taste better is the cracker (even better when paired with prawn cracker)
The Yakun u had looked super bad quality, they skimped out on a lot ingredients. But to ur point of making it at home, I could say the same about the toasts u get off the streets of Korea
