Yes, I have Ukrainian and Russian friends. Most get along fine together, but when there was a couple that didn't hit it off, I didn't insist on them changing. I respected their decisions and they respected mine. Mutual respect is very important for good relationships. Some how America has lost it's manners and decency in conversation. It's very sad that it seems arrogance replaced civility and ignorance replaced intelligence in diplomacy. I have been increasingly embarrassed by our representatives. I have been kidded by international friends that I don't seem American because I am too logical. That saddens me more than I take it as a compliment. That WMD lie is really a turning point for many people. To me it is the realization that even after the WMD lie was exposed, there's no apology from the US govt nor their people. The US army still occupies Iraq as a colony, mandating their government and looting from the country. This is the awakening moment for me to realize that the problem is not just with a wrong decision or a bad individual in the country, but rather the whole society (people + culture + system) with their blind self-fulfilling faith in their own way.
