@@ArvoR Sure, US military weapons are the ones performing abysmally against Russia, its insane, 59 tomahawks, only 2 hits, a canteen and a hangar. 5 or 6 ATACMS, only 1 hit in Crimea. Switchblade drones literally doesn't even work that Ukraine buys their drones from China. HIMARS arent even supporting active fronts anymore, Javelins ammunition went out quickly as 1 in 9. Stingers no longer works even on SU25. Seriously, China are not battle tested army, why even bother ridiculing a tank that might not work?

Only the first three or so rounds will be on target; recoil puts all the others way off base. Throw all the rounds you want, a miss is a miss is a miss.

To be honest if it's multiple target it'll likely hit the others along the way if it's a swarm of drones. Single bursts probably depletes within 100 rounds or so but it'll be more than enough.

@@CosmicValkyrie well, if you have more of the explosion inside the barrel, the bullet will go faster and further. Accuracy will be higher. If you don't need that, you can use bigger bullets, more explosive payload, etc. At the same time, it will get hotter and there will probably be more wear and tear.

What's impressive is the video of the tracking camera. Tracks the drone, after the drone is destroyed tracks 5-6 falling pieces that are basically invisible to the naked eye. That's some good tracking ability

@@marijnnn4992 Heat signature noise is always gonna be an issue after impact tho. The colour of the tracking outline also changes. U can see one debris was green before being reclassified to yellow so they are at least attempting to filter the signature somehow

That said I dont think its designed against the little FPV things but more against the larger ones

@@mike4769 its (programmable) airburst munition. It basically gets told in how much time it needs to explode and thats calculated by computer. I am not sure if this uses the same system but theres also just airbust munition that just explodes after certain range

@@mike4769 I just did some research and apparently they had these since ww2, but back then they used various other methods since the munitions wasnt really programmable. They used things like radar in the actual bullet so it would burst when close to an aircraft sending out radio waves. They even had ones that would hear the engine sound and then explode. there unfortunately isnt that much clear info about modern airburst but I guess that is for a reason

Sounds too complicated to maintain or re-arm to be honest. You don't need a minigun to do a job of destroying drones. Sufficiently high caliber with enough burst and a proper radar will do the job. Otherwise your just wasting time, ammo and lot of maintenance hours.

Nice, but usseless for small units (platoon and alike). Would be handier, if the same base idea is applied on a small, automaticaly following mule-like UGV. Would cover logistics, casualty transport AND anti-drone defense. BTW, would not hurt, to add on its hull own drone launch-tubes, for both ("over the horizon") attack drones and kamikaze defence drones, to bolster and suplement the "AA gun". BTW, dimmensions of the gun (and its ammo) have to be smaller, than 20mm rotary cannon. I can immagine a 3 barrel, rotary shotgun or machinegun - in case of machinegun the ammo has to be the kind that fragments before it hits the target, what increases the price for a round. That is why i prefer the shotgun idea better, and sugest zigzaging the ammo (buckshot, birdshot). Of course, the gun turret has to be able to turn 360 degrees and aim the barrels as high as possible, but at LEAST 60 degree. Optimal would be HIGH position (preferably higher than the platoons head would be), to lessen a threat of friendly fire.

Track is not for mud, 8x8 can do mud.... Track is is placed on heavy plated vehicles because wheels can't take the weight. This doesn't need heavy plates because it's not a front line vehicle.

Tracks are actually designed to distribute weight/ load over a large area maximising surface contact with the ground and creating lots of friction which is essential for propulsion.

I think people don't get it yet. The Drone wars require mass production of cheap units. An AA system with radar is neither one of those. Production of those units is slow and a swarm of drones can take it down...this is a new form of war, which requires a different approach, not solutions that already exist in the market since the 1970's.

But, drone warfare is conceptually new, and we are finding that those are the equivalent mass produced units of WW2 against the ultra high tech "wunderwaffen" that today's equipment is. Which means...attrition. Drone jamming cannot happen when there are drones with preprogrammed paths, inertia navigation system or other simplistic approaches. A 1k drone vs a 500k system with trained operators will make economic sense every time in attrition wars.

Эта машина слишком большая, слишком заметная, слишком приоритетная цель. Только для охраны в тылу. Тут она может опказать себя хорошо, если их будет 2 и более. Эта машина для Саудоской Аравии, я помню, что когда то Хуситы запускали дроны по заводам переработки топлива в Саудоской Аравии, американская система ПВО при этом подтвердила свою невероятно низкую эффективность

Or is it a mobile defense system in the deep rear that can intercept incoming objects if there is a good air target tracking system and this system has enough time to arrive at the position for interception. Such systems are also needed, as the war in Ukraine has shown. Shooting down FPV drones isn't the problem, getting a lock on the damn things and tracking them is; they're too small and low flying for a decent radar lock and run too cold for an IRST lock. You may aswell saturate the sky with airburst rounds, but you'll have to pause to cool the barrels down and reload, thereby exposing the vehicle to a saturation attack. Not saying that this is useless; it's actually an excellent system that can shoot down targeting drones and other large drones. But as far as FPV drones go, ECMs are the way to go.

@@cptarianus824 yes, ECMs aren't a panacea either, and FPV drones flying at top speed can still get through on sheer inertia, even if there get shut down midflight. They're what we call a "mitigation measure" in the safety and security field; not enough to negate a threat completely, but enough to lower the risk to acceptable levels.

While I do see it being useful against larger drones and manned aircraft, I doubt it’ll be effective (or rather, efficient) against FPV drones. In my opinion, to counter FPV drones you need to give individual vehicles the capability to defend themselves against them. Either via cheap jammers (as Russia is doing) or by shooting them down with remote controlled machine guns or auto cannons mounted on your tanks (as NATO is seemingly looking more towards), possibly with the integration of sensors and AI. Creating a new vehicle specifically to defend other vehicles against FPV drones won’t work well.

Seems fine on paper. Maybe the range of the minigun is not optimal. There is a reason why Rheinmetall is using 35 mm. I mean, if you want to protect something big you want to have more range. AA is for defense so that is definitely a factor.

I see that it has possibilities, but it comes down to numbers and in-theatre availability during wartime. Can't really judge capability until it has gone to war or been given an honest test. Culturally, it's hard to judge the quality of a good produced in some countries because an honest assessment may be offensive and cause a loss of "face" and that usually means that sub-standard equipment may be fielded in order to not offend someone in a position of authority or senior to the assessor.
