Nice video. We don't produce many sub-2000 FOM ECHO's anymore and don't make the XD4 or XR5 series, although you'll still find them listed on our website. Might be interesting to compare the NNVTs against a 2500 or 2600 FOM ECHO or 4G. However, what I'd like to point out to your audience is that you mentioned one significant item that I haven't seen anyone cover before and that topic is contrast. Indeed many users boresight on high gains and image brightness especially when discussing Gen 3 tubes, however Photonis tubes have the best contrast in the industry, thus you are correct in that a lower gain Photonis tube can produce outstanding resolution at low light levels (NL-4 or NL-5) due to the performance in contrast. For your viewing public please stay tuned for our new 5G image intensifier tubes which will supersede our 4G tubes. In the meantime we always recommend that people get whichever goggles and image intensifier tube combinations that they see the best with, that meets their price point, and it looks like NNVT is a capable entry choice.
Very well said. To be clear, this video is NOT meant to undermine the performance of Echo in any way, as they are and still continue to be the highest performance-to-price ratio of any commercially available intensifier (in our opinion), especially on the international market. We've see even 2000+ FOM Echo+ intensifiers blow the NVT4's and 5's out of the water in all conditions, so there's no doubt 2500+ FOM Echo or 4G will do the same.
Wow, it is crazy to see a larger defense manufacturer step into the scene and talk directly to consumers. Really cool to see things like this. Keep up the good work over there. Also keep up the good work on your sensors, having developed on your LWIR and NIR sensors, I have to hand it to you guys.
Super high FOV gucci tubes are great and all, but it would be amazing to have a barest-bones Gen1.99999 tube option that costs less than 1k; it can be a good foot in the door for entry-level
I’ve been rocking an nnvt as one of my main tubes for quite a while now and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Excellent intensifier for the money.
@@flarbles7631 that is pretty damn good. I spent $4200 on a PVS-14 from TNVC. It's a nice tube but I still like to look around. I have anot so great video of it on my channel if you're interested.
Being a person living in China, I only have access to the NNVT-4 tubes :] I can say that the NNVT-4's are pretty good, I personally made a GPNVG-18 BNVS replica with those and it is clean as hell. Also it's pretty funny how I get to use a literal analog GPNVG in night time war-games while the other guys are using flashlights and digital PVS-31 replicas >:]
How much do you pay locally for the tubes? I assume they're probably a fair bit cheaper if you source them in person locally in China compared to online through a Chinese vendor?
Thank you for the extremely informative review. I’m about to take the NVG leap and these price tags are scary. Definitely going to save the 1,000 and go with nnvt4ag’s. If anyone has had a bad experience with them please let me know.
We've sold 100s of these tubes. No bad experiences so far. Of course they are not the best tubes on the market but they are a wonderful way to dip you feet into real analog NV.
@@coldharboursupply thanks for the info. So I had a Pvs-14 while in the Army back in 08 besides the WP how do they compare? I’m meeting someone on Saturday to pick up a gen 2 so just want to be sure.
@@tabasco573rd 08 was a while ago, there were defo some great tubes in the army then, however, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how good modern gen 2s are nowadays.
@@coldharboursupply cool brother thank you for putting my mind at ease. I’ve been back and forth until I saw this video and spoke with you now I’m confident in the product and plus WP sounds like it’s going to be a lot nicer than the green world I’m use to.
People love splitting hairs, but you know what's cool? Being able to see in the dark...and all of those tubes do a good job. Bottom line, pick your level of sacrifice (price point) and get some night vision. A superpower you can buy.
Truth is Photonis is a French defense contractor with branches operating in China. Its not subjected to ITAR. Many Chinese image intensifiers were older (still very good) Photonis tubes produxed/copied under license. Pretty sure Elbeit Systems also (indirectly) sells/operates with China.
Would lowering the gain negate auto gating? more specifically could auto-gating be avoided or the alternative methods such as resolution reduction be negated by manually lowering gain?
What field was the night time gameplay footage from? I'm interested in making the jump to nvgs but don't know where the night games are here in Ontario. I'm guessing you're not in K-W anymore 😂
I think that the video camera on the right side has different setting as thos on middle and left sides. This gives the illusion of lower noise. Maybe the exposure time is different due to tube screen brightness.
When testing my device for auto gating is there any specific type of monitor I should look at? Or would looking at a TV or phone screen provide the activation of the auto gating where you can observe the pulsing?
Any device where you can see the pulsing should confirm the tube autogating. We looked at some laptop screens (MacBooks here). It will depend on the output of your screen however. It works on phones but it will be harder to notice as well.
This is not true. This ECHO tube doesn't reflect modern ECHO tubes. This is an old ECHO tube. I'm working in the NV business. And our company NEVER had a photonis ECHO tube below 2000 FOM or 30 SNR. We only get echo tubes with 2000 - 2400 FOM. Obviously for the same price like this low FOM echo in this Video. This means you get nowadays for the same price a ECHO 2200 FOM tube instead of a NNVT tube with 1200 - 1700 FOM.
Edit: sorry was up late SO... heres my question if I get a nnvt 4 or 5 tube...and it says it doesent have autogating or manual gain do those tubes unsteady have BSP protection at the cost of res ir just this specific tube has bsp and I would have to call and ask the dealer of the tube ...what I'm asking is can I assume if it doesent have automation it has the nnvt BSP protection instead as a rule of thumb?
@@justaregularguy3827 You can assume if they don't list automated, it uses BSP. To be honest, I would not worry about it. The tube will be plenty protected against light with NNVTs aggressive BSP.
Better than a kick in the teeth not having them. Just build your own or take out a loan. It's not like your money is real anymore😂 may as well get what you can out of it before money isn't a thing anymore
I think the largest difference between the 2 images will be the tint. To be honest, the SLIGHT bump in SNR won't make a difference and the autogating makes the NNVT4AG much more versatile in a greater range of scenarios.
@@aesthetic8780 thanks. I've been told the same thing elsewhere, and I've now seen a sensor fluctuate in a recording. P45 is not monochromatic like P43, but it's still quite spiky. I looked up the XY coords and the web names for the hue include Moonstone, but that's not very tactical sounding.
I bought a PVS-14 from you guys. Should they be purged often? If so, what timeframes are we talking about? How do you purge one? What if you don't purge it?
Atleast from my experience the public night vision users only need to purge if they work with a lot of water environments or get they’re nods dirty, the normal civilian sounds have to purge very often if not at all unless you notice more blems or specs in your tube, they are purged with nitrogen, if you bought a pvs14 from CHS then it should have already been purged before it arrived to you
This is excellent!! One think i can say is "finally!", now i can start a build with new stuff and not used ebay stuff where you really dont know how much life you will get out of it before it decides to fail!! Really appreciate the content 👍👍
These guys have awesome customer service Had a pvs14 in for repair, and they blew it out of the water contacted me with parts im going to need and had in stock Only place to go for nvg products Thanks again CHS
Same experience. Bought a really nice set of dual nods from Steven and team, and their service was top notch. Nearly a year on, and i am still enjoying the nods, and they are flawless. They gave me a full spec sheet from manafacturer, plus an in house hoffman report, and im really chuffed with the whole package from Cold Harbour. Buy with confidence. Andy and Paul, UK.
If Cold Harbor Supply has million fans, then I'm one of them. If Cold Harbor Supply has one fan, then I'm THAT ONE. If Cold Harbor Supply has no fans, that means I'm dead.
So, if you buy a Chinese made tube, there shouldn't be any ITAR restrictions, correct? I'd like to buy a nice set but be able to travel around with them.
@@kenjipark4717 Nvt is manufactured in China, you can buy from either Cold Harbour supplies or from me😉 Itar only stops nods from leaving USA, not entering.
I don't have the NVG yet. I am considering buying it on a Facebook market, but I have no way of checking the seller's statements. I have a photo of the tube where I read codes, nothing more.
@@Ares-TN02that's why you buy from Cold Harbor. I live in the Netherlands. Cold Harbor is an amazing place to buy night vision. I bought locally from a Dutch shop, but Cold Harbor was waaaay cheaper, by a huge margin. The prices were the same, but for the price of a 1424 FOM NNVT I got a 2337 FOM Echo+ from Cold Harbor.
appreciate it man, im going to order a set from ali, and hopefully have my first set of NVG soon! maybe upgrade to duals but i dont think ill have time before shit starts going crazy.
What’s the point of these tubes when you can get Elbit tubes for another $1k… if you are already saving for nods just save some more if you are already willing to drop $3k+ on a piece of metal
