Right on man ! My converter came set right on 12v and on start up of the cdh I was measuring 11.7 - 11.8 v Turned it up to 13.3 v , and man what a difference. The fan rpms ramp up significantly ! Thanks for the info !

Just to say. I see that you're running directly from the transformer. So do I... But if there is an outage, the furnace needs power to go into shut down mode and the burner has to "get rid" of 150-220°C heat. No 12v, no fan. No fan then the heat will severely damage the control board etc So I put a deep cycle 12v 22ah battery and a small trickle charger instead. If now I have an outage, the battery will keep it running for hours and I can close it down safely later

Hi the control board wont over heat as its at the back of the machine which doesnt get warm i think most run this heater of p/s i do and had a few times ive trip the power in the garage with the heater running and never had any controller board fry ups. just turned power on and it goes though the cool down before restarting hope this helps

@@gazbullen well thanks. That's reassuring! Just to add, that I bought a second heater, where the unit is "broken up", this one I'll install seriously in my working cabin. The red "all in one", I might install in the basement of our 90 yr old aunt down the street with the hot air coming up from below into her lounge room. A Direct heater like this will radically change things instead of a HUGE gas bill she has had this winter.

@@PeterJavea yeah the one i have is the separates one :) you can always run it of a 12v say 12ah bike battery with a trickle charger connected that way if power goes down it will carry on running for a good few hrs of it then when power gets low on the batter y the heater goes into shutdown mode automatically hope this helps

You could do both. Best of both worlds. You get your 14 Volts from the transformer in ordinary times. During the blackout, your 12 Volt battery, connected in parallel, steps up and runs the heater. If you have al the stuff already, that seems to me the best implementation of supply power. I’m happy to be corrected 😇.

Good info! Can you provide a link to that particular power supply? thanks

Most heaters have a magnet on the fan and they know what RPM the fan is doing. The voltage will not change the fan speed as the computer regulates fan speed Obviously you still need to be within the high and low limits. Try it yourself turn the voltage from 12 to 14 it will speed up momentarily then slow itself back to it original speed ;)

i have one of those power supplies, but i dont use it.... Instead, i have it connected to a car battery, and a trickle charger constantly plugged in for it..... I opted for this method, because the heaters require a cool-down when turning off... In the event of a power-cut... it will not get that cool-down period... This way, If i experience a power-cut in my home, the heater will continue to run on battery... also it gives me the chance to turn it off, and let it have that cool-down period.....

hi, I want to do a setup like yours.thanks for the info. I want to do a permanent mains powered setup with enogh battery for 24 hours in case of power cut. The power drop should set off the automatic shutdown sequence of the heater in case the power runs out completely. I want minimal effort, but I will make a nice neat setup. Can you recommend a suitable battery and charger combination? Or maybe an off the shelf UPS unit? I live in New Zealand.

Hey W0OTM... What is the 4 pipe manifold thing coming out of the face of your heater? I haven't seen that option before. Thanks for the PS tip, I will be nudging mine up for sure.

I have regulated power supply think I will add a UPS and Arduino unit to turn on automatic timer which will sense when unit has gone through cooldown and effectively ensure unit stays shut down until + power restored. Just read up simple NAND ICs and a some relays can be used for effective homemade UPS. Adding in some type of Arduino controller I should be able to add in simple timer circuit or basic code to power everything down until power restored after cooldown achieved. Will see what I come up with, like idea of building own UPS setup with small battery to get it through a cooldown cycle.

I was just wondering if you keep the power supply plugged in when the heater is off or do you need to unplug and plug bask in each time you want to run the heater? Thanks Ed, did subscribe 👍
@paulgtal
@paulgtal 8 месяцев назад
You need to keep it plugged in so it can shut down properly when you switch it off (its only drawing low amps when its running, it takes higher amps on start and shutdown modes)

just so you all know, a pot is a potentiometer. if you have any old coin op video games lying around you will find a similar power supply you can use.

@4:23 In the comments of your prior video you mentioned that you have run approximately 50 gallons of 70/30 WMO/E85 without any issues. Now you mention that you've made combustion chamber modifications. Were those 50 gallons burned before or after these modifications?

Probably a mixture of both. I’ve been at this since October 2022.

until you lose power... then the unburnt diesel fumes come through your intake backwards and the engine can't cool off properly, maybe resulting in damage.

I have a brand new one of these that I cant get to power up. When I have 12 volts going to it, im presented with the led screen. I've primed the pump, when I press the power button to start it, it shuts down immediately without any error codes. Its 87 degrees fahrenheit where im at. I just wanted to test this thing out. Could the thermostat be preventing this thing from firing up?

Most 12 volt plugs used today only provide low power for cell phones etc. it hard to find one that can take 160 watts, you need a direct line to a battery or a 120v house adapter that pushes 12v-14v and at least 160 watts. Best option is order one or buy a battery and trickle charge it with 100 or so watts.

Can you cover a topic about using a lead acid battery as a back up should there be a power outage. This is quite common where I live. I understand that damage to the diesel heater will happen should the power stop when the unit is running. Maybe showing the best method to use both mains transformed to 12v coupled with a battery so when the power is interrupted the battery will take its place and when the power is reinstated the system will revert back to the transformer supply. Hope you understand what I'm talking about. Rgds S

Why not change the voltage in "menu 1688" from 12v to 24v? you also get a faster startup (glowplug power)
