You’re one of the few people who can get rid of mealy bugs. Great job! 👍👍👍👍👍. I’m not convinced about the perched water table thing. I don’t always put gravel in my pots but my plants do well either way. An expert botanist told me it helps when the soil becomes too compacted. I love Betsy and the other girl, but they are not experts.
Hello, Louise You have given me much thought these past few days. I keep your thoughts in my head as I work in the garden. The other RU-vid Channel I was referring: "Danielle Tells" She seems like she's sweet person. She's currently pregnant and talking a lot about that. I send her best wishes. Anyways... I hope you have a great day:) Friends, Gerald:)
Thank you. Your video is very informative. I am a newly retiree and a new gardener. I recently bought some Chinese Evergreens (we call them Philippine Evergreens here in the Philippines) from a nursery. The nursery had over watered them and when I got home to repot them I saw that the roots had rotted. I worked on them and now they are showing new growth and very robust. I'm hoping they become as beautiful as yours.
Hello, Edwin You're a retiree in the Philippines? I want to be a retiree in the Philippines! This plant will grow well there. Hawaii has it's hottest summer, and this plant just "took off!" The pink and red ones are very nice as well, and I think pink is "happy." Please keep in touch. I will be there in ten years. I was planning to retire in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan in Central Luzon. I like the rural areas. Keep in touch, Gerald:)
I saw Palawan when I was studying the map of the Philippines. That's the islands that extend west from the Visayas. I heard that's a beautiful place. Kumusta kayo? I like your President Dutarte. I heard he made the Philippines safer. I hope the Philippines remains safe for retired expats
Edwin Holcombe : Good morning, Edwin, I've been to the Philippines three times before. I stayed in Manila before heading to the provence. I e been to Amal of Asia, Green Hills, and "Desforia Mall?" I liked Urdaneta in Pagasinan. It reminds me of my old home town. The hard part is seeing the poverty. I hope to retire in the PI. :)
Finally someone who uses the term “soil” and not dirt! Thank you, Thank you! People need to understand that dirt is what you sweep off the floor! Soil is Life!
Hello, Joanne I have peeves like that, and as I get older, it's harder not to say anything. I learned the difference between soil and dirt in elementary school. I hope I don't accidentally make that mistake because I share in that peeve. I’m sorry it took this long for me to reply. It’s been a challenging year. It's been a tough year for everyone. I hope you are doing well. Wishing you good health and happiness always, Gerald😊
I received a 2 leaf CE back in May or June. I tried to rehab it in soil...nothing. I lost one of the 2 leaves. So I stuck the one leaf stem in water until bumpy roots appeared around the stem. I planted it and threw it outside in a shady spot on the patio. Within a week or so I have shoots growing. Today I have a whole new leaf. So there is hope that I can get at least 4 or 5 more weeks of outdoor sun and humidity before I have to bring it in. Thanks for the video.
Hey T Time, I don't give up easily: whether it be friends, work, pets, or plants. I wouldn't want anyone to give up on me. One of my four pink Pink Chinese Evergreens is constantly getting infested with mealy bugs, I've treated so much with neem, I think the plant is stunned. All the leaves fell off, but I didn't want to give up - that plant had cost me $20! I have it in a shady place on my patio, and it's getting leaves... small somewhat deformed leaves, but it's not dead. I'm keeping it on the dryer side, and it seems to be working. I think the plant is staying alive due to our will to keep them alive. Stay strong :) Gerald:)
Don't make your videos shorter-I really enjoy the casual narration. Sometimes, I will hear you will throw out a tip or factoid that I've never heard before. For instance, Monsanto's plan to patent the neem tree. I watch a lot of plant care videos (too many actually) and I learn so much from yours.
Thank you, my friend. I worry that one day I will say something I shouldn't (i.e. too much information). Thank gosh I wasn't alive during WWII. "Loose lips sinks ships" I like to talk as if I'm talking with friends. I love plant videos too. I like to see what other people have :) Thank yo for taking the time to visit and comment. It is very encouraging. Gerald:)
Those plants just exploded after you separated them. Your climate is what I would love to live in to grow plants!! Thanks for sharing and your videos aren't too long at all
Hey Paul, I know! it's good and bad. I am very happy with the way the Chinese evergreen looks - it makes me very happy, but so I will need to re-pot them, and that's when the plants will look awkward for a while or possibly struggle. It looks beautiful. I wish I could put it in my bedroom, so I can look at it before I sleep, but I don't want to awaken to a dead kitten. It's been very hot and humid lately. It's suppose to be cooling down at night, and even the nights are barely tolerable, but the plants are growing wild! Thank you for visiting and taking the time to comment:) Friends, Gerald:)
Absolutely loved this video. I’m a new plant mom. I got an Aglaonema Maria and when I saw a white patch, I chucked it outside and peer through the window at it or throw water at it. This weekend I plan to operate on it and attempt to save. Lol
Good morning, my friend I am very curious of how that operation went. These plants are quite sturdy. I hope you are enjoying the fruits of your labor. Gerald;)
Hi Gerald I prefer the long videos,. I had a similar situation with the mealybugs a while back, before I knew about neem oil I just submerge the whole plant in water about 3 days . It cured my plant I was so desperate. 😁
Hello K Love, You're one of my first friends. I am always happy to hear from you. I've been thinking about getting an aquarium, but it will have to be years from now when the grandkids graduate from high school. Until then, I'll be enjoying your fish tank. Thank you for visiting and taking the time to say hello, Friends, Gerald:)
Omg what a great job you accomplished! I feel kind of bad, I would have thrown the plant out! Yes, I would have! Lol. Well, My Chinese evergreen is throwing off a few yellow leaves! I will follow up with repotting because of your long video which I throughly enjoy! It’s very good of you to take us throughout your process of taking care of your plants! No apology was needed from this viewer! The roots are showing on my One evergreen! I don’t know why I don’t purchase more than one plant as a general rule! Quick question For you, I purchased beach sand from Lowe’s, it’s quite fine in texture, is this 👌 ok! The use of sand came from Your usage! I notice it helps with deterring fungus gnats! I purchased a new calathea and vowed not to! But this one is absolutely beautiful! I haven’t seen this one before! The leaves are a beautiful lime green with yellow variegation. I will post a picture on Instagram. Have a great weekend Take care You! Denice 😀
Hello Denice, Don't feel bad. I think throwing away an infested plant would have been a prudent thing to do. I am lucky all turned out well. Thank you for your encouragement. I really appreciate your support. Beach sand should be okay. I hope it's been washed and does nothave much salt remaining because too much salt will interfere with the plants ability to take up water. Sand, as a topper, is great for discouraging and eliminating fungus gnats. Clatheas as a plant I have been struggling. I think I may be too busy to keep up with calatheas Always wishing you the best, Friends, Gerald:)
Hope you are well despite such terrible troubles. I keep discovering more if your videos from a year ago. Much respect, I hope your garden is flourishing
I hope so too. This year has been a challenge. I am hoping for a better year. well.... 'Good luck' always follows 'Bad Luck' so it's going to be an awesome year! Stay strong and stay positive Gerald:)
I came here to get advice repotting this plant from a huge pot. I love your videos, don’t change timing. Most always your videos make my heart and spirit smile. Thank you, Gerald. DPerry
If you see this, my question was what do I do with the rooted and non rooted rhizomes that separated while having to dig up from the enormous pot? ( that pot was taking up too much space in my home) . Please advise, ty.
That's what I had to do, and I have to do it again. I divided one of my larger plants, and all of the roots I planted in smaller pots. grew. Little plants will sprout within weeks, but it's take a year for the plants to grow tall and fill the new pots.
Hello, DPerry Aloha from Hawaii! I hope you had a good day. Thank you for visiting me. It really means a lot to me. I was happy to wake this morning to find your comment. It's been a tough couple of years. I'm hoping to make new videos this week... or soon. Again, thank you for visiting. I hope you have a wonderful weekend 😊 Your friend, Gerald😊
I have 5 kinds of aglaonema , I want more coz they are very pretty and easy to care for . My Aglaonema Maria just recently get mealy bugs . But now it’s under control . Great tips and thank you so much .
Hi Myra, I'm so very happy to hear from you again. I have many Chinese Evergreen Maria, but I have a few pink and red cultivation and the Sparkling Sarah Chinese Evergreen, but the Sparkling Sarah only has pink stems - I like the pink pattern on the leaves. It's nice to hear from you again, Gerald:)
I love your videos. I too had mealy bugs on my all green spider plant. It is like 10 years old. I sprayed it with neem oil also. I don't see anymore bugs but is still in isolation.
Good morning, Becky Aloha from Hawaii! I'm happy you were successful in getting rid of your mealy bugs. They seem to love some plant more than others. on my "moss rose"/portulaca I have a difficult time keeping the mealy bugs off my "moss rose"/portulaca, and even though it's a beautiful plant with bright flowers, I won't buy any. My last portulaca remains mealy bug free, but I watch it closely. I don't want the mealy bugs to find refuse, built up into an infestation, then start attacking my other plants. Thank yo for visiting and taking the time to comment:) Gerald:)
Hello, Peanut Butter Aloha from Hawaii! I hope you had a good day. Thank you for visiting me. It really means a lot to me. You are very kind. I love these plants. I am also focusing on the pink varieties. My plants have gone through some rough times as well. The pink varieties are just as resilient. Again, thank you for visiting. I hope you have a wonderful weekend 😊 Your friend, Gerald😊
Hello, Anna Aloha from Hawaii! I hope you are having a great day:) I appreciate you visiting and talking the time to comment. You are a very encouraging person. Wishing you good heal and happiness always, Friends, Gerald:)
Lately l have fallen in love with AGLAONEMA PLANTS & found this video very informative! Thanks for sharing! I have now 6 varieties of aglaonema plants!
Hello, Anna Marie - (lovely name) Aloha from Hawaii! I hope you had a good day. Thank you for visiting me. It really means a lot to me. I didn't think I'd like this plant as much as I do. Their leaves and their resilience makes me fond of these plants. They are also among the best indoor air purifiers. Again, thank you for visiting. I hope you have a wonderful weekend 😊 Your friend, Gerald😊
Good job Gerald! A true gardener! An inspiring video and I feel bad for not being persistent with my battle with mealy bugs. I had one plant that I nursed with watered dawn I didn't have neem oil but the bugs kept coming back and in my frustration I threw the whole pot away!😡
Hey Val, I know how you felt. Mealy bugs are difficult to defend against. I was so frustrated with Chinese evergreens - a few years back - that I got into peace lilies, but I have found neem oil and it has seemed to be an effective pesticide. I would be wary to bring such an advanced infestation near my other plants for fear it may spread to the rest of my plants. It's nice hearing from you again. Thank yo for visiting and taking the time to comment. Friends, Gerald:)
Good morning, my friend. I know! I haven't seen an infestation that bad... I'm glad I was able to eliminate the infestation, and to this day, no mealy bugs have returned. Thank yo for visiting and taking the time to comment Friends, Gerald:)
🎄Merry Christmas🎁 I’m sorry it took this long for me to reply. It’s been a challenging year. Thank you for visiting and taking the time to write. Wishing you good health and happiness always, Gerald😊
Martina! Aloha from Hawaii! Slovakia is such a wonderful place, but I've only seen it in books, magazines, and encyclopedias. It's wonderful that we can speak to each other from opposite sides of the world:) Thank you for visiting and finding the time to comment Friends, Gerald:)
Hello, Patricia Aloha from Hawaii. Thank yo for your kind words. One of my grandkids just moved to Las Vegas. He's the cameraman of this video! He's moving back, seems like the lockdown is hard on everyone. I’m sorry it took this long for me to visit. It’s been a challenging year for everyone, and I had to tend to family. Wishing you good health and happiness always, Gerald😊
Hi Dori:) I agree. I hate killing any living thing, but I need to kill mealy bugs, mosquitoes, and cockroaches.... when I see them I must kill! Otherwise, I'm pretty live-an-let-live kinda guy :) Gerald:)
Hello, my friend! So happy to watch your new video! It's absolutely stunning! Nice to see how rescue and propagation can be done.A so pleasant and informative presentation of Chinese evergreen Aglaonema!👍.
Hello my friend, I just stumbled upon your video. I have so many Aglonemas because of that green seed you showed. It turns red and I pluck it from the plant and plant it maybe 8 or ten to a pot. In six months you will see your new plant starting to grow. I love Aglonemas, I have so many of them.
Aloha my dear Gerald !! Is great video and amazing plants presentation, i like it very much my dear friend!! I send warm and friendly greetings from me and Greece and have a lovely Thursday!! My best regards, George +like 295

Hi Pam! Aloha from Hawaii! You're in Colorado? My best friend moved to Colorado! I heard that's the best place to live if you like skiing. I never got past the bunny slope. Heck, I never learned how to exit that big swing that takes you back up the slope. Evergreens are tough little plants. They can handle being dry better than being over-watering. I don't think they'd handle the cold very well. Thank you, Pam, for visiting and taking the time to comment Friends, Gerald:)
oh me too! I am pretty chicken when it comes to heights. I'm in Pueblo which is located in mid-to south east in Colorado. We can see mountains from around town but the closest is about 24 miles from us. I do love Colorado but sort of don't like the cold as I get older. Thanks again for your videos. You are so knowledgeable on all things plants. Pam
I just love me some Aglaonemas. They're my favorite at the moment. Its food to see you Rescue that baby Out of his misery The plants looks so great now
Hey, K love! It's been a long while! I’m sorry it took this long for me to reply. It’s been a challenging year. I hope you are doing well. I'm glad I found you. I had to go through my comments 11 months back to find you. There's a bunch of friends that I was thinking about since returning to RU-vid a couple weeks ago. I already stopped by your channel. That pink aglaonema is awesome! I had to pick up one of my kids from work, so I'll see you later. Wishing you good health and happiness always, Gerald😊
Hello, Jelly Donuts - cool name:) Aloha from Hawaii. I hope you are having a good day. Thank you for visiting and taking the time to mention your encouraging words. I really appreciate it:) Wishing you happiness and good health always Gerald:)
Love your videos! This one as are all that I've watched is extremely helpful regarding saving a plant from mealybugs. Your voice is very calm and you are so thorough with the information you share. Congratulations on rescuing the Chinese evergreen plants - they are one of my favorites. Saying "Aloha" is also a very nice way to end your videos! Thank you so much you are great "plant parent friend"!
Hello Audrey I hope you are having a good morning. Aloha from Hawaii. I’m happy you were able to get info from my trials and errors. I appreciate you visiting and taking the time to comment. It means a lot to me. I hope you have much success with your plants. It just makes the home feel fresh. Wishing you happiness and good health always. Gerald:)
Good morning, Glovana Aloha from Hawaii! Thank you for visiting and taking the time to comment, my friend. Wishing you happiness and good health always:) Gerald:)
Good morning, Tiffany I was just wondering what am I going to do with all my Chinese Evergreens. I have another huge plant I must divide, and I also made a video of propagating these plants by stem cutting laid horizontal in soil. It's good for demonstration, but now I'm going to have more plants! Thank you for visiting and taking the time to comment. Friends, Gerald:)
Great video, thank you. I have one propagated from my mother, and had a knat infestation. I got rid of them, and it’s thriving. Your tips are very helpful!!
Thanks for visiting Это новый год возможностей ✨🎈 🍀🍀 Удача следует за неудачей, поэтому 2021 год будет отличным! 🍀🍀 Желаю счастья и здоровья всегда, Джеральд 😁

Good morning, Diann I hope you are having a good week. Aloha from Hawaii. I dread mealy bugs! I'm so happy the cure wasn't as bad as the disease. Thank yo for visiting and thank you for your encouraging words:) Friends, Gerald:)
Bonjour mon cher ami c'est une excellente présentation et très belle vidéo de la plantation c'est Magnifique tu es formidable très beau travail merci pour le partage
Hello my plant friend! Thank you for making another great video! Well done as always ☺️ I have one of these guys with almost totally silver leaves & a couple of the dark green & pink splashed leaf variety too. They are doing well! Not as well as your tropical haven there though 😉 I really liked how you showed the entire process so we can see months later. That must be hard keeping videos straight so it’s much appreciated. One request, you can do it if you like, but could you do a walk around your garden? I’m in northern Utah which is very different 😂 and I’d love some tropical eye candy! 🤩
Hello, eM J Utah? I lived on the mainland for a couple of years during high school... seems like a million years ago - I'm not that old:) I lived in California City near Mojave, California - just below Death Valley. It was an experience. I was able to keep a couple of pothos alive. Roses grew well outside, but I wasn't into plants as much while living there. I remember a friend near Bakersfield had plum and apricot trees. I never realized how productive those trees can be. Tree ripen peaches, plums, and apricots tastes really good. Hawaii gets those fruits picked green and it ripens in the crates... very dry and bland tasting. Anyways, Thank you for visiting and taking the time to leave a comment. I like showing how plants progress. It takes planning, and sometimes I get distracted and when friends want plants, I mindlessly give them away forgetting that I planted them for a video. I'm remembering now - since it had already happened a few times :) Thank you again. I hope you have a great week:) Friends, Gerald:)
So nice of you to say, I just returned from your channel. I liked the ocean in your video. Thank you again for visiting and taking the time to comment. You’re awesome! Aloha, Gerald😊

Hello, Peggy 💖 Aloha from Hawaii! Thank you for visiting and taking the time to write. Sometimes I talk too much. Thank yo for being so kind. You made my day. I hope you have an incredible week! Much love and aloha, Gerald 😁
Hey, Carol! I think you're going to like this plant, but I noticed that this plant gets mealy bugs, so I take them outside to hose them down about once a month. Mealy bugs can't handle water. Did you buy the plant yet, if not try the pink or red cultivars, they are just as sturdy. I’m sorry it took this long for me to reply. It’s been a challenging and difficult year. I hope you will be able to visit. Gerald😊
@@PlantsaremyTherapy Yes I bought a green one awhile ago and it is doing good...I dont overwater it which is something I have a habit of doing. I dont see the red or pink leaved ones too much here in NJ but will be in the lookout for them. Thanks so much for replying. Hope you are doing better now.
I happened to stumble upon your video while researching perfect types of tropical house plants. As I have been hearing so much about Chinese Evergreens, your title fit the bill and so I clicked on the link--and I'm very pleased that I did. Your knowledge, presentation and video footage is the perfect combination to keep your viewers engaged. Nonetheless, because of that, I am your newest subscriber. Looking forward to watching and learning more. Great rescue by the way. Thanks! Darryl
Hi, Darryl It's been a tough couple of months. Many of my plants have suffered, but these Chinese evergreens are doing well! I have a couple of the pink varieties and they held up very well. I hope yo are doing well, in these challenging times. I'm stuck in the house with teens... pray for me. Gerald:)
Hello, Helena I hope you are having a great day. You are very kind. I've always loved science, and I used to pride myself in being able to teach. I hope I can get it together. Thank you for visiting and for the encouragement Friends, Gerald:)
Hello, Elizabeth Good morning! I was just looking through my evergreens this morning and I think it's time for me to give more away. This is the plant I have the most success in propagating. If you have a green thumb for this plant, try and get the pink cultivars. They are just as sturdy. Thank you for visiting me. I’m believing it’s going to be a good day. Again, thank you taking the time to write. Always wishing you best of health and happiness 😊 Your friend, Gerald😊
Hello Mary and Harry, It's always good to wake to see you in the morning. I really appreciate you visiting. I love this plant. It's very green and easy to maintain. Wishing you all the best, Gerald:)

You have done another excellent video and you explain the challenges you took on very well. Hopefully Monsato did not get the patent on Mother Natures work.
Hello, Ralph Aloha from Hawaii! I hope you had a good day. Thank you for visiting me. It really means a lot to me. Monsato is lurking in the shadows of 2020. I may have to add whiskey to my therapy 😜 Again, thank you for visiting. I hope you have a wonderful weekend 😊 Your friend, Gerald😊
i WOULD LOVE TO HAVE ONE, BUT THIS VERSION IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ANY MORE, I LOVE THE GREEN, I HAVE ONE CUTTING I GOT LAST WINTER, IT WAS A FULL PLANT AND CAME FROZEN, SO I SAVED ONE STALK TOOK A YEAR FOR IT TO ROOT IN WATER, BUT, CANNOT FIND THEM ANY MORE
Hello Anthony I love the green. It makes me feel calm and tropical plants purify toxins from the air. Can I ask, where do you live? If you cannot find Chinese Evergreens in your area, try Peace Lilies or Dieffenbachia: but remember these plants are poisonous if eaten... wash hands after handling. Once these plants establish themselves, they will multiply. Take care, my friend. Wishing you much happiness and success Gerald:)

Hello, Louie Aloha from Hawaii! I hope you had a good day. Thank you for visiting me. It really means a lot to me. I hate mealy bugs. Another way I've discovered, that works, is taking the plant to the shower/outside and hose/squirt it with water. Seems mealy bugs hate water. try no to overwater the plant. I focus the water on the leaves. Again, thank you for visiting. I hope you have a wonderful weekend 😊 Your friend, Gerald😊
Good morning, Sana! Aloha from Hawaii! I hope you are well. This “quarantine” is taking it’s toll on me. Thank yo for your kind words. Wishing you strength and good health, Friends, Gerald😊
Hello, Noelle I use neem oil as a prophylactic... wait... I use it prophylacticly - that's not even a word! I use neem oil spray as a preventative treatment, and I had originally planned to spray once a month, but it's been about once every two to three months. Time flies! It seems to work. Lately I noticed a few 'white flies' = another stubborn infestation, but the neem oil sprays and early morning water sprays with the hose scared/stopped those parasites. You can't store neem oil diluted in the spray bottle, it seems to lose it's effect. Thank yo for visiting and taking the time to comment:) Friends Gerald:)
Hey Vernon Thank you for saying. You're a kind guy. I’m sorry it took this long for me to reply. It’s been a challenging and difficult year. Have a safe and happy holiday season. Gerald😊
Would love to see the different ways to propagate this plant!! Also do you know what it means if the pink ones start losing color and or turning yellow?
Aloha from Hawaii, Usi! I hope you are well. This has been a rough year! I noticed a few of my pink plants were turning pale and then yellow, I moved them to a more shady spot, and three of the plants seemed to have recovered, but it's too soon to tell. Thank you for visiting and taking the time to write Wishing you strength and good health, Friends, Gerald😊

Aloha from Hawaii! I hope you are well. This has been a rough year! You're awesome! Thank you for visiting and taking the time to write Wishing you strength and good health, Friends, Gerald😊
thats a great Chinese evergeen story. i have one and its not thriving. its leaves which used to look a healthy green were turning yellow before its time and that was worrying me. perhps it was a really slow grower, or maybe taking too much time adjusting to my garden setting.then i realized that the potting mix which i got from the same store as the plant was wrong, it was holding too much water and the Maria didnt like it. no new leaves after two months. finally i took it out of the pot and mixed a better draining soil. hope my Maria will be better soon.
Good morning, Elizabeth I hope you’re having a wonderful morning. I noticed that some plant do grow at different rates. I do not know why. Even when I've divided it from the same plant. If the leaves turn yellow, be careful of your watering, the pot needs to dry before the next watering. You will learn your plant. If you feel ambitious, you can repot it. It's possible that it's rootbound, but "it's best to leave good enough alone." Thank you for visiting me and taking the time to comment. Stay safe, stay happy, and have a great day. Gerald😊
Thank you for such an informative explanation on mealy pests as it was killing my beloved Chinese evergreen. I took the appropriate steps you shared here for my plant, hoping she makes a recovery🪴💚 Mahalo!
Hello, Chris! Aloha from Hawaii! I love cats! I have two: Paka and Munchy. Munchy is cuddly and is always with me, while Paka just sits on a shelf and stares at me. Wishing you to be safe and healthy in these scary times. Friends, Gerald:)
@@PlantsaremyTherapy Thank you Gerald. Have one kitty curled up beside me right now. I am 70 but in excellent health so far. I am a total hermit so being home is the usual for me. Good morning, Stephanie Aloha from Hawaii! I went to your channel, and I like Viva Frei - he makes me look at the world in a different way. It's sad that we cannot trust people. Well, not all people. Thank you for sharing. Actually, we are very interesting about your Aglaonema. Because your plants produced red seeds. I was looking that kind of plant a while. I planted Aglaonema call Maria but that plant has white flowers and never see the seeds.I know, you said your Aglaonema name is Maria. I would like to know make sure the plant produced the red seeds name is Maria?
Hello, Ko Lin Aloha from Hawaii! I hope you had a good day. Thank you for visiting me. It really means a lot to me. I believe these aglaonemas produce seeds that ripen red, but I rarely pay any attention to those. These plants propagate well with cuttings. When I have more time, I'll try to cultivate the seeds and hope for a pretty mutation, but until then, propagation by cuttings is my preference. The Maria cultivar is beautiful, and it's an efficient indoor air purifier. Again, thank you for visiting. I hope you have a wonderful weekend 😊 Your friend, Gerald😊
Hello Iona Thank you, my friend. Aloha from Hawaii. It's another hot ans humid day the plants love and I'm just trying to survive. I use Alaska Fish Fertilizer from any of the big box stores, but I find it in smaller garden stores also. Dilute is and it feeds the microbe in the soil so they can break down "wastes" into elements the plants can uptake. If I use chemical fertilizer (rarely), I use it less than half the recommended dose. Chemical fertilizers bypass the microbes and go directly to the plant. It is good to feed plants fast, but it starves the microbes. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. It is very encouraging. Gerald:)
Thank you so much making this video. I had no idea Chinese evergreens could be manhandled that way. Question, do you think you could do a video on when and how to prune them? I have a red one that's so top heavy that the stems won't hold it up anymore. How much to cut? Where? Also, don't apologize for the video being long. It wasn't at all. I could have listened all afternoon! Blessing to you!
Yes, absolutely Chinese evergreens seem to be very hardy plants that can handle much man handling. My first Chinese evergreens have grown very leggy, so I plant on trimming and possibly propagating the cuttings, but I have so many plants already. I want to propagate my pink and red plants, which also seem sturdy enough to endure handling. I'll have to decide if I want the plant bald for a couple of months, and that if I cut all the stalks, or I'll just cut a few stalks, but enough to keep the plant "presentable" until the new growth sets in, then I cut the older/remaining branches. Sorry it took this long for me to reply. It’s been a long and challenging year. I hope you are doing well. Wishing you good health and happiness always, Gerald😊
😁LOL Thank you for visiting and taking the time to comment, Kevin. It was a joy to find your comment. Wishing you happiness and good health always, Gerald😊
I jusy did a video on plants are my therapy as well. I have a Chinese evergreen as well. I want to proprogate it. Do u have a video on that? Whr do u get the neem pil that you use? Do u recommend to spray the water and neem oil on all plants so the bugs will stay away.
The neem oil and neem spray is found in the big box stores like Wal*Mart, Lowes, Home Depot, Target, etc... but I've also found them in small garden stores. Better, more pure neem oil can be found on the internet, but shipping to Hawaii is very expensive. The neem oil, must be diluted in water and put in a spray bottle to spray onto plants, but the ready to use spray are not meant to be diluted. I use the neem spray about every couple months to ward off parasites. It seems to work, but the bugs are always waiting to take hold. Thank you for visiting and thank yo for finding the time to comment. Friends, Gerald:)

Loved this! My Chinese evergreen is struggling and I don’t know why. It gets bright light but almost everyday another leaf turns yellow and droops. It’s been like this since I brought it from the nursery. I wonder if it just doesn’t like my house? Would mealy bugs cause this?
Hello, Jenny I’m sorry it took this long for me to reply. It’s been a challenging year for everyone. Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. I hope you are doing well. I hope your plant is doing well. I'm afraid to ask, but how is your plant? Sounds like you need to let it dry a little bit more between waterings. Wishing you good health and happiness always, Gerald😊
