People don’t usually lie about stuff like this on purpose I understand Chinese so I watched an updated interview with the dad. His name is Xu Wei if want to look it up. What impressed me even more is his method of treatment, not purely pharmaceutical but also psychological, using mood therapy to ensure optimal epigenetic mRNA expression. Great to hear
@@bdstudios6088 that's not the point of my comment. It isn't talking specifically about this video here, but the idea of how easy it is to manipulate people. Social media, major news, work of mouth, and people just listen to it and then spread missinformation everywhere. The fact that you didn't get that in the first place already lets me know that you are the same as these other people. I never once mentioned I knew the facts of this video here. Reread my message again and stop thinking so surface leveled. Now try again. Original comment just said something and regardless if it was true or false that is not the point of my response. "Even if it fails, I still want my son to be on the path of hope." That hit hard. A father's love for a child is so great it moves the parent to create something out of nothing.

"I do not want him to wait for death in despair. Even if we fail, I would want him to be on a path pursing hope." The depth of love between this father and son is out of this world.
As a biomedical laboratory technologist, I have mad respect for this father. The things he does are really difficult, and him doing it without a degree or anything just shows how desperate he is to save his son. RESPECT
Although he has no degree in medicine, he looks like he holds a PhD degree in some other field as he knows how to set up a lab by reading academic papers.
This actually proves that scientific papers should be open to all. Researchers never got any royalty from papers instead they need to pay some money for their papers to be published. And here this man, with only secondary school he could do this amazing thing. This is what researchers hope for. For their work to be useful for a lot of people.
@@SF-ud4ej It is kinda scary tho? you'll never know if that will just cause more deaths ? People are different, some are desperate not knowing the process or skip some process and make mistakes.
It is very inspirational as someone who only graduated high school. I'm a 28 y.o. self taught mechanic working full time fixing cars but I have plans on going back to university to finish my computer science degree. I have been learning AI using python and I'm having a blast learning something again and I love it, hearing a 30 y.o. man say he wants to also go back to university despite being 30 is giving me a massive confidence boost, just knowing you are not alone in your situation is so relieving.
Dude as a former molecular biologist, this guy is nothing short of a genius. The type of lab work he was doing can be difficult even for someone with a master’s degree, but he achieved it in a meager SIX MONTHS from secondary school level with his own equipments! After he finishes taking care of his son, he definitely should get a formal education in that field, because he is truly gifted.
Everybody talking about his love for his son, and here I'm also wondering just what an intellect he is. To make medicine at home of such rare genetic disease, armed only with secondary level education, is _truly admirable._ *Hats off to this Genius Father.*
@@irisviel_Einzbern i dont think being an asian is relevant for this guy's perseverance and hard work let's praise him for what he's done i just dont like how being an asian is equals to genius
He is not a genius, he just had the will to do what he wanted to do, and found the way to do so. A veces creemos que hay cosas muy lejos de nuestro alcance, y este padre en su bondad y amor infinitos es la prueba viviente de aquello. Still, it is indeed truly admirable.
it's a genetic condition, so you can't "cure" it. it can only be kept in control by giving medicine. there are some genetic conditions where the bone marrow therapy and gene therapy can help, but i don't know if this is such a disease.
When people say they did everything they could, they don’t mean everything, they mean everything that’s in their current knowledge, but this man. He actually did do anything he could.
Ah yes, instead of let him go painlessly, let’s prolong the child’s disease. Maybe we can let him live till adulthood so he can suffer more and become a burden to society. Best dad evar, also let’s film the whole process to virtue signaling to everyone.
A secondary school grad, looked up all available information to save his son, and you call him a joke. I wonder what will you do in his shoes. Let your son die due to your reluctance to lift a finger or your lack of knowledge and bother to find the final solution that can radically change the situation. You are a joke. He is more than impressive.
update: the son is said to be stable given his father's medication. Xu Wei also realised that there have been successful cases of cure abroad so he worked hard to help his son.

Christ, though it's against the odds, no one can fault this dad's genuine love for his son. Not many people can say they became a full-time chemist on their own to try and fight a rare disease.
I know there's a lot to be said about the Chinese government but I gotta respect the fact that they're not interfering and letting the father try and save his son. In some countries they'd send a commando and confiscate all the equipment.
@@adriansimsoongleong8878 There are probably at least a few undergraduate classes he would have to take to get a deeper understanding depending on what the PhD would be in. But I imagine he would get very readily accepted into a PhD program after displaying this level of initiative.

It’s which way you look at it , I think it’s selfish to have children, risking them getting a genetic disease, I ain’t a father but I think this person is an inspiration because he had children knowing that he will give it all and he’s smart enough to study and I respect people who are smart enough to study
This is a man who won't stand idly by watching his young son die from an incurable disease. Kudos to him. Also for his parents & family to be able to afford the (expensive) lab equipments he used. Now he also has something he is interested with and will pursue to tertiary education. I applaud this man's devotion.
This is straight out of a comic book. Look at him go. My dad wouldn't even help carry my casket if I died tomorrow. Best of luck my friend. We are all rooting for you.
Reminded me of Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain. Wasn’t the biggest fan of it but it was a compelling film nonetheless. It’s about a man trying to desperately find a cure his wife’s cancer himself, that’s his life’s work, until she dies. And he has these visions of his ancestors, of him in another life where similar tragedy happens. Until his wife inevitably dies, and he comes at peace with the fact that it’s too late, and he should have spent more of time with her instead of curing her. Not that similar to the movie but close enough. I do hope for the best for him and his son.

There’s no “ethical grey area.” This is his child and he’s going to lose the child without treatment. He’s doing his duty as a father to care for his child and he’s going above and beyond what the average person would do.
I hope he succeeds and his son is OK. Some may say it is incurable but maybe this man, with his dedication, can succeed where others have failed. He literally dotes on his son and I wish them all the best
Tough times can bring the best and also worse of people. This child is really blessed to have a father who genuinely loves him deeply and is so determined, while also intelligent enough to self teach himself on how to develop the medicine his son needed for survival.

@@atrik1st716 Three days since posting. Most likely been awhile ago when happened. I would like to know, too! Googled this man and his son. The picture of him holding his son was taken in October of 2021. The little boy has been ill since birth and he is 2 years old. The life expectancy for this disease is 3 years old. I wish some other country would help him. Bitterly sad.
The reversal of Breaking Bad. Even with only secondary school education and lack of chemistry knowledge, he still can manage to create the formula to save his baby child. Mad respect.
Absolute respect for the guy indeed. However, given the fact that he's ventured out and learned enough pertinent things in biology and chemistry to try and engineer a cure for his son's genetic disease, constraining his education level to that of being secondary school level and his lack of chemistry knowledge at the time of synthesizing said formula is incorrect. Learning and mastery isn't mutually exclusive with formal schooling, and you often consolidate the majority of your actual education through your work/career.
@Angie S Those years are extremely useful if you want to work in a field and be prepared to tackle every problem possible in a short amount of time from when it is presented but if you only need to learn one specific thing you can just learn that specific thing. Of course you may often need to backpedal but internet has everything for those who know how to search (for example if you add a university name to a subject you want to study chances are you will find a pdf of the class material for that subject)
@Angie S his case is not common. Teachers are there to help if you make mistakes but people who study on their own needs to check for their own mistakes. They may also be unaware of specific keywords necessary for research that a teacher can elaborate in 5 minutes. Education is extremely important, it's just that his circumstances are so dire that he forced himself to learn everything
@@12801270able I think they meant specifically that he only had till highschooler's level of education in the fields of biology and chemistry. he most probably has a university background in another field, given his way of speaking and his home feels very upper middle class well educated to me.
This is not only impressive but also the fact that he refuses to give his own medicine to other parents with kids of the same condition shows that he is a very responsible person.
@@apoxesportsteam There is no well developed legal regulation concerning this specific case. That’s why it’s said to be a morally grey area.
