Chinese Generic Mega 2560 Timeout Error fix! 

Thanks a million! I was uploading the firmware of my 3D printer and then I accidentally moved my arm and unplug the usb cable... Disaster firmware had not finished yet to fully upload. I tried to upload it again but nothing. I tried your method and you saved my life :)

In order to do the reset automatically, you have to connect a 100nF capacitor in series between the DTR (pin 2) of the FT232 and the RESET pin on the Arduino MEGA. I tested and it worked!

It sounds like the reset pulse from the serial port isn't working well. When the IDE wants to talk to the boot loader the IDE toggles the DTR signal which through a capacitor pulses the processor reset pin. If this doesn't happen smoothly you would get the timeout because the boot loader didn't respond to the IDE queries. Sources for the problem are: missing or incorrect bias resistors, capacitors either damaged or wrong value for the job, jumper pads not configured correctly.

The value of C4 from the reset line to the CH340 chip is incorrect or simply a bad capacitor, add a 100nf 0805 capacitor to replace the C4 on the board and this will fix the issue most of the time with many if the CH340 type boards.

if you short out the jp1 next to the reset button WITHOUT power, it will restore to factory just did it and it now works for updating firmware without issue

The other alternative to pressing the reset button is to quickly disconnect the USB cable and reconnect it in the same fashion...

I soldered 4uF electrolytic capacitor in parallel to C4. No need to press that damn button.

Guys, if there are still people wondering on how to fix this upload thing, I ordered mine from this website ( www.aliexpress.com/item/33006557839.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.eeed4c4dT2Sjiy ) and on that same page it actually gave me the details on how to connect it properly to USB (had to change the position of all the switches on the arduino as in the diagram on that page). Then I hooked it to the USB and it uploaded instantly. Here is the diagram again: USB ATmega2560 DIP - OFF OFF ON ON OFF OFF OFF And then just turn the USB converter CH340G to connect to RX0/TX0 of ATmega2560. Of course then you just make sure that you select the right port and board from the Tools menu and start uploading. Hope that helps to anyone!

Sir i have faced same problem in the arduino uno i have fixed it by using the appropriate driver and reconnecting the module again and again because by somewhat reason the window was blocking it.

I have the same issues.... i think there are some capacitors of an incorrect value around the reset line... will try to get the scope out and see if there is a real fix.

Found a nice easter egg that got me with this same signature issue. Make sure you do not have 3 consecutive exclamation points anywhere in your sketch or this "avrdude: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout" will plague you. I had mine in simple serial println's. Removed the 3 consecutive '!'s and it was fixed. Found this post talking about this... forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=136170.0 Probably won't fix everyone's problem but worth looking into with your sketches.

While this allowed my sketch to run without any problems, the IDE did not say that it successfully uploaded, and gave me the usual "avrdude: stk500v2_getsync(): timeout communicating with programmer error". Do you have any idea about this? What's even weirder is that I have a genuine Arduino Mega 2560 board.

I am able to upload my sketches using this trick, however after that I'm not able to retrieve data from the microcontroller using a program like putty (or the Arduino IDE) itself. Any solutions for that?

My problem was a bit different in the solution, the serial port was set to incorrectly to a different port... easily change it to serial port ''/dev/ttyACM0'' and done!

This didn't work for me. Friend told me to take another cable. That did the job for me. Not even need to press reset, works like it should. Would just mention this option to. But anyways, thanks for the video ;)

all i can get on is R17 R18 thats all i can't do anything with a new mega 2560

I was having this issue so after trying everything related to drivers usb drivers and all that including your useless method lol i unplugged everything from the board and it connected no problem. gotta make sure port is right, baud rate is right, driver is installed and all that shit but i think the main issue is nothing else can be installed till all pins are set in the firmware. Damn, I spent like 3 hours on this crap
