San Francisco Chinese New Year parade 2020, celebrating Lunar New Year 4718… wow!
The year of the Rat, or Mouse. But in this parade you will also see dancing Lions and Dragons oh my! #ChineseParade #ChineseNewYearParade #SanFranciscoParade
Also we’re lucky today in SF that the weather was good, where as most years it does tend to rain around this time as well as be a bit more chilly.
The symbol of the mouse represents wealth, surplus, vitality and fertility (This is because a mouse can give birth to 5000 babies in a year). People born in that year are characterized as optimistic and energetic.
Also they are clever and quick thinkers. The legend of why the rat the first animal in the Chinese zodiac sign is because he out smarted the other animals by riding on the back of the Ox (the 2nd animal) then hoping to first place at the end. The year of the rat holds a special meaning for both of us (Rich & Sunny). This symbol also is consider the Yang (of Yin Yang) representing the beginning of a new day. Also is a inspirational symbol for those wanting to have kids.
Thank you South West Airlines for sponsoring this amazing event! Thank you KTVU, and of course big thanks to the city of San Francisco and the Chinese and Asian American community for sharing your culture and celebrations with us!
This is one of the biggest Chinese New Years parades in the western hemisphere (of course the ones in China and Asia are spectacular).
Happy Lunar New Year! In Chinese, it’s “Gung Hay Fat Choy!”
May you and your family have a happy, healthy and prosperous year ahead, filled with fun and fortune!
