Chinese Wisteria Bonsai From Seed Kit Mar 2021

I had a Christmas gift of a Bonsai seed kit for Chinese Wisteria and thought I'd show you what you get and how I get on. Just so you get something to see I also work on an established Chinese Wisteria in training. I also bought some seeds for £3 whole pounds so we will see which work best.

Sadly not so great 😞. If you check the follow up video you will find that it was unsuccessful and none of the seeds germinated. Haven't given up though. There will be a new video in the next few weeks where I have tried again with more success Stay safe

I ordered some wisteria seeds in early December, never turned up, gave up hope. They just arrived yesterday! Perfect timing really, very exciting stuff, love wisteria.

Only 4 months ago! Unbelievable. Time is indeed a strange thing. Mine are doing very well, they weren't happy adjusting to outside at first, then they really took off.

Hi Sid.....I live in the southeastern U S and if we want wisteria we just harvest the plant from the woods. It's just about taken over the place!....lol....springtime is beautiful here!

I bet it is! Wisteria are quite spectacular. I've gotten into them over last couple of years and now have 3 in training as bonsai. Hopefully more if these seeds do their thing. Stay safe

I was given a BONSAI KIT about 5 years ago I havent done anything with it the picture of the Bottle Brush looks good on the box looks great. There is only one seed in it though . I guess the thought was nice at the time

Well they do say that it's the thought that counts. Why not give the kit a go. What's to lose? You never know, it might germinate. Stay safe

Hi Sid ..... I had a gift set of “bonsai” seeds ... 5 varieties , 10 plus seeds of each ... I’ve managed to get one seed to germinate ! ... On the other hand I took 2 cuttings from my 3 year old wisteria in the autumn and they both appear to be starting to break bud , so that’s a result !!! And I’ll be sure to copy your method over the coming years. I am toying with starting an instagram account so show some of the starter trees i have in the hope I get some advice .. hopefully it will work :) Thanks for another great video 👍🏻

I started my wisteria from a similar kit, from the packaging looks like it came from the same place! Mine came with a small plastic pot too. This Chinese wisteria was the only one that took out of the lot. It’s growing really well and was very fast to sprout. Excited to see how yours will do!

Mine is still doing good. Still just a tiny thing. I moved it to a normal pot and put it outside over the summer. Not sure exactly when to move it into my garage.

Good luck my friend. I'll be looking for that kit if you do well. I've had terrible luck trying to get any Wisteria seed to grow. Stratifying or scarification hasn't done anything to help and been a real bitch lol. Luv the vids stay safe and well!!

Hi Sid could you have left the long leader and would you have gained more trunk growth ( more leaves feeding back to the roots ) or were you looking to start a branch structure

It can go two ways really. Leave it long and get a thicker trunk base slightly quicker with a major scar to deal with where you chop, or, you an cut and let it shoot again and repeat. This takes slightly longer but gives more natural looking taper and movement. I prefer the later. Hope that makes sense. Stay safe

I would be cautious in covering the seedlings with cling film as I’ve witnessed them going mouldy using this method. I think checking on them often and making sure the tissue is always moist gives a greater chance of germination

I only have a few that were sent to me by a friend sorry. Try ebay for young plants if you cannot get the seeds.

I know what you mean. I'm 56 myself. They say it can take 15 years plus for Wisteria to flower from seed so will I see flowers from this? Maybe but then again maybe not. On the other hand I have some little Birch trees grown from seed that make creditable bonsai at around 4-5 yrs. I'm going to do a video on them soon. Never say never I guess. Stay safe Matt.

the flat Wisteria seed I think you put them in lukewarm water for about 2 days and it plumps them back up. I just got a grow your own Bonsai kit with Wisteria's and other trees. the Wisteria seeds were flat until i soaked them. No idea if it will grow can take weeks for seedling to sprout. I'm keeping mine indoors so it might be different?

These were a Christmas gift. A quick Google search shows that they are available from several sites. I don't know where you are from or shipping rules etc but I'm sure you could find some available to you. Good luck. Stay safe.

Sid why not accept the Japanese date format; yy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss far easier to understand. Its good to see you starting the process from seed, but I'm hoping I've not committed to following the updates for the next 5 years. Good luck with the germination...
