Erisco PR could have done what wiser companies do, comment under the comment and ask her to send a private message so as to get more information. They can say they are sure of there products but are aware that there may be fakes. Then go on to say that they are committed to best practices. The matter could have died down. But that is a missed opportunity. Going forward, I think Erisco should drop the matter and call Chioma to his factory and settle amicably, out of court (alternate dispute resolution). If erisco continues down this path, he will damage his brand irreparably. Erisco has much more to lose than to gain. I also call on those that have the ears of Erisco to advise him properly.
There are several reviews on coca cola, how dangerous it is and how it can be used to wash toilets and other things, but nobody has been arrested and bullied like this

How did you come to the conclusion that his actions are unjust. International News cannot determine who is right or wrong. It's only a court of competent jurisdiction that can determine that and the case is already in court. Erisco and the online sympathisers are running ahead of themselves. The court may discharge and acquit her or convict her. We have to wait for the outcome before definite statements are made.
He is a terribly crude man, with a primitive temperament. He will lose not only the court case but his investment in THIS particular tomato product because he has dealt unfairly with this young woman. He will see.

He has used his own hand to amplify a bad review and also granted these interviews that makes him look like a wicked man which he may not be. Wisdom is very important.

Misplaced priorities by the Nigerian police. In a developed country, ERISCO will be losing money to the reviewer & made to pay the legal fees for infringing on her Freedom of Speech & rights as a consumer of a product not to talk about the money he will pay for damaging her mental health. But in Nigeria, anything goes- the law is made to favor the rich & oppress the poor.

Imagine anyone arresting people for doing reviews. People are reviewing stuff online everyday, but Nigeria is a lawless nation with the poor at the mercy of the rich. But on the other side let not be sentimetal we should also consider business no one would want to close his business there is always a way to report business feedback and see if they don't take action then can go as far as Facebook to broadcast I see no reason for someone to go and report something he found out in a product on Facebook without feedback to the producer first.....
People review products everyday online, it's not intended to destroy a business no matter how they sound. How the company manages that review will either turn it to their advantage or destruction. In this case the PR move of this proud bully went left. He destroyed his business not that lady. If people are not allowed to complain freely about your services then u are a bully. Complain is for improvement not destruction. Everyone makes mistakes, even fortune 500 companies.
This lady acted out of ignorance, he destroyed her evidence but opening all, but in a Dev country they will investigate through the batches of production and deal decisively.
Erisco suffered a lot under Emefiele's CBN governorship. He was denied forex to import raw materials and treated very badly by Buhari's government. His response can be likened to what happens when you maltreat people and something snaps. He says he was damaged by her social media posts and his lines of credit were withdrawn. As a business owner, I feel his pain. But he should temper justice with mercy.
Am of the opinion that he should prove that whatsoever negative feedback from Mrs Okoli about his product is a lie. That alone will sale is products and make his product more popular but the number one thing am seeing is PRIDE simply because he believes he can frustrate whoever he wants with the help of the law enforcement agencies that should be unbaise and act on grounds of forensic and truthful evidence but rather they will use their office to do the bidding of their pay masters........ As a Belgian, i can review any product i want and give my unfiltered opinion about it. And my opinion can be WRONG or TRUE. It is my opinion. You should have that right too! I hope she files a counter lawsuit and wins.

At first, as a business owner, you'll feel disappointed, but then, if you have a genuine business mindset and the passion for what you do, you don't take things personal. The questions I asked myself were, " What value did they get from my product in exchange for their money?, Where they truly unsatisfied if not yes what can I do to improve? What positive words will I want my customers to say about my products? , Are my products lacking what they really said its lacking? Can we fix it as a team involving my customers? It's what helps the business to grow. No big company in this world has ever made it without customer review or criticism. There are companies that pay professional critics to review their products every 2 to 3 years. And it helps them expand and get more customers. The thing is, if you are doing it for only the money, you will lose everything buy if you are concerned about people whom you are selling your products or offering your services, it shows on your product. I really hate this comment section. A lot of you don’t know what your fundamental human rights are and it shows. How can reviewing a product turn into criminal charges?? For Pete’s sake even on Amazon there is space for review and people often drop the most morbid and terrible reviews but none of them have been treated this way. I understand. But 1. It's hard to prove if she even bought the product. She didn't have it on hand when they arrested her. 2. She bought the wrong product for her intended use. She bought the tomatoes mix, not tomatoes paste for stew. 3. She apologized and wrote a letter too at the police station. If she really wanted peace, she should have pulled down her post. 4. She could have given her review, but to say that it kills people is wrong. There's enough blame for everyone here.
I can never patronise a product that thrives on intimidation, oppression and tyranny. I should have the freedom to express my dissatisfaction of any product I use or have used.

It’s not bullying, her comments or review on that product was very harsh she responded to someone who tried to correct her to go tell the manufacturer of the product to stop killing people with the product. And I think that’s what she’s been charged for, she’s asked to bring evidence for how many people it has killed. Let’s be careful how we comment on social media, even though I am praying for her freedom I can’t rule out the fact that she was wrong. That’s somebody’s life time hustle, you can’t just kill it with one post.

Is that how is done outside Nigeria, describing a company's food product as something that is killing people? Her post wasn't a review but to destroy, she may never realise that till still was arrested, and she should try make peace, whoever is supporting her now outside from beginning the man is doing her no good. Yes that’s how it’s done outside and even in Nigeria with reputable firms. The company could have apologized, promised to look at the production batches of the tomato paste she bought and even even send her some replacement packs ( I have had Nestle Milo in Nigeria do this for me personally, the replacement was even the same with original one BUT the gesture made me remain loyal to the brand). Customers are always right, “you can’t fight dirt with dirt and expect to remain clean” What you and your company have done and is still doing is achieve exactly what you were trying to avoid… no sensible customer who is aware of how you treated Chioma will be buying your brand, Chioma = Customers, Customers =Chioma!

From her post, she mentioned two brand she usually buy, but bought this because those once was unavailable, before expressing that it was too sugaring, In my opinion mentioning two other brand as your favourite before complaining about another one is more like advertising for those your two favourite, which is fine if you want to advertise your favourite but not with a complain of another's similar products with the pictures. And under her comment session, she replied a comment suggesting to her, that she should use other products than condemning the brother's products or contact their customer service, her reply was , the product are kill**g people. These are not right at all, yes maybe the way she was arrested and the whole thing might be intimidating now, but what about how she complained too? The truth is that, a lot of our people just post anything and anyhow on social media expecially when they have followers, now they will all be supporting her here and there but she's there receiving whatever it's, how she will be out might not even concern those pushing her. Mind you, they are all leaning from this ooo, if she or any of her followers wants to do this next time, it will be done in a better way I promise you and am sure if she is ask to repost this, she will do better. Imagine if the brand's response was one of diplomacy and good faith feedback. If we're being honest, his approach to handling this situation is doing more harm than good to beloved brand he's trying to protect. I don't think there's any country where he'll get away with this oppression.
If the MD of this Company was from another tribe, doing this to this woman, the story will be different. They are likely from same region. This should be an eye-opener that people are who they are not because they come from a particular tribe. May God see this Mrs Chioma Okoli through.

This is pure abuse of power by the highly connected. It should not be allowed to happen in Nigeria. Both the police authorities and the Mr. Eric. Customer is always right. It is good to get feedback from your customers and improve your product. That's the way to improve and grow your business.
This story broke my heart. It’s funny how this can not happen in a sane country. I understand the angle he is coming from but he saw an opportunity and didn’t know how to take advantage of the bad PR. Fighting your customer is not the way forward. She said “the sugar is too much” all you need to do is address the situation and create another flavor for customers like her.

Sugary tomato paste is plenty in Canada. You guys should get enlightened. In the ingredient section, presence of sugar or sweetner will always be indicated. If it's there, the company is justified.

She has every right to give a review, but not defame. She said the product kills people. Freedom of speech is not the issue, freedom after speech is the problem. If you say something, be ready to receive the consequences. You can’t defame someone and expect the person to be silent.

The police have already arrested her twice, harassed her at home, taken her phone, not allowing her to leave, all against a court ordered restraining order against police arresting her without a specific warrant. They flew her to a different city and also jailed her overnight in a standing only jail cell while she is pregnant. Meanwhile, her 3 kids are alone. She's looking at something like 3m in damages, several years imprisonment for 1 crime, 7years for another crime. I don't think she will be fine for a long time.

Stop hiding under a review. What she did was wrong and again she is not a regular user of the product. She clearly stated her choice brands before she blew it out of proportion

We need people like her as food Heros ...a simple message from Erisco food inviting her and even using her as an ambassador would have needed all this. Too much sugar na cause problem oh. The fact that people have not come out to talk does not mean the product is good. I never liked the product from day one. The first day i used the product was the last. Chioma made me to remember erisco is in existence cos nobody sells it in my area. I asked some women who sell foodstuff in my area about the product and they said it is not good, people complain about it that is why they don't sell it. That product is a no no for me
I have watched the man's side of the story and seen the post Chioma made on FB, and I can say that Chioma made the mistake of not understanding the product she bought. She wanted to buy tomato PASTE and ended up buying tomato MIX! A mix can contain other ingredients. Just like fruit DRINK is different from fruit JUICE. If she understood the difference, we won't be here. Let everyone learn to read product descriptions before buying. Now, for me, my concern is why the police acted how they did and why she had to sleep in detention overnight over a CIVIL MATTER?! A case of defamation is civil and shouldn't cause all this noise. Sue her; no need for police intimidation. We truly are a lawless country! Chioma made a mistake that could've been settled easily. Erisco is right for crying foul against Chioma's post, and Chioma is right for crying foul against the approach of Erisco and the Nigerian Police. So maybe she will pay damages and then sue the police and Erisco for whatever her lawyers tell her was done wrong to her. Finally, I think that it's wrong that a customers comment can land her in jail. It means that we can't critique products. Coke Zero, Diet Coke, oil free, etc products won't exist if Nigeria manufacturers were allowed to have their way. Some persons that alleged that, Nathaniel Bassey is the father of Mercy Chiwo's son will soon go to prison and dance to the tune of their music. This man Erisco said that she's not their customer, he forgot that everybody in Nigeria buys their products. So that automatically makes everyone their customers.
