A video produced in 1984 on (I believe) the Apple II with Vectrix graphics hardware, and the animations were produced by rendering and capturing the image frame-by-frame onto 16mm film. One of several 3/4" U-Matic tapes I recently acquired from Vectrix.

Conceived and executed by Ken O'Connell at the University of Oregon. Ken, I'm going to put your name on this, because you should be recognized for this extremely early and beautiful digital animation.

Ken! I remember this when it was first produced. 1984, Year of the Mac (we just designed the first Mac facility, in Cupertino)...those were the days! Brilliant work.

Okay. This reminds me of a PS1 demo from 1994/95. The colored squares are really 64 bit.

Very cool and certainly ahead of its time when produced in 1984. Good job!

Howdy! I just posted a fresh scan of a 16mm I did on my Apple //e in the mid 1980s. It's the built-in video except using a monochrome monitor, multiple exposure, color filters and stop motion. See my flickr account (same name). There's a magazine article and several photos of the camera interface.

Amusing to me, 0:54 just happens to be very similar to one of my very first OpenGL attempts while I was learning long time ago, same 8 * 8 * 8 objects repeat, with same colors, but cubes instead of squares. When I show the thumbnail, I jumped :)

The music sounds very similar to Upper Astral’s Journey To The Edge Of The universe.

I am composer of the music track (aka Susan Kennedy) along with Fleetwood Bernstein. This was a fun project way back then.

@@MeiClover Oh, thanks. I produced whatever sort of music people asked me to do, for little art films and documentaries.

Recorded on a 4-track Teac reel to reel. I played the music live, no computer help.
