Hey, thanks for the video. I'm about to buy a new couch but my husband and I have lower back problems, any recommendations? Is softer or firmer better? The seat angled or straight up? Thanks

Why do couches have to be so uncomfortable to sit it. Am thinking of just not using one at all

Rob, question - but if it reverses when one is sitting, doesn't it mean that he doesn't sit properly? I don't see why the curve should reverse if one sits correctly, maintaining the curves as they are when one is standing up? Or did you just mean that "in the way how people usually sit, the curve reverses" (while if they actually sit correctly, it wouldn't have had reversed)? Sorry in case of grammatical errors, I'm not a native English speaker. Thank you in advance for a response.

Good question: improper sitting will reverse the lordosis. 👍🏻👊🏻

Hey Dr Rob I always come back to your videos as a chronic back pain sufferer I was on a 6 hour flight on Wednesday and since then my sides have been killing me. The muscles on my sides just below my rib cage, in the oblique region. Been 5 days now and no better, doesn’t help with the terrible mattress in the hotel. What should I do please?

What about upper back pain? I never have any problems with lower back.

I've been in terrible pain after sitting on my couch the other day, with the pain primarily being by my pelvis and small of my back. I was getting uncomfortable and took a big couch pillow and sat on it because I believed the couch is just too low to the ground. The cushions come up about 3/4 up my calf. So when I sit on it, my butt is lower than my knees. Anyway, I think my pelvis (more so my tailbone) was hanging off the back of the pillow. I only lasted around 15 minutes, then got up with excruciating pain in my lower back to where it feels like I'm tearing the muscle comparable to trying to pull a raw piece of steak apart. This happened night before last, making today the 2nd day waking up to where I can hardly move an inch when having to say, lift my hips to slide over more on the bed if I'm near the edge of it. Used a massager, Deep Blue cream by Doterra and attempting to relive the pain with Tylenol 1000mg to no effect. I have CBD gummies, but they have the THC in it and I don't like that feeling of being buzzed/high -- BUT the CBD definitely works. I'm really hoping to figure out what's wrong. If I'm sitting in my computer/desk chair which is higher thankfully, I have to first push my body up by putting my hands on the arm rests and lifting my body for that initial stretch, then stand up. It then almost feels like my hips/pelvis just drops a few inches (like it's loose or disconnected) from the initial push up with the arms before standing. Then, once standing, it takes more just to try and stretch to a full standing position. This is a bit scary for me, especially having thrown my back out like this just from sitting on the couch. I really hope you see this and can let me know if this sounds typical, or if it's something that can be a result of something more going on, to which I need to go to the ER, Urgent Care, whatever and have it checked out. Thank you.

Such great video. I have spondylolisthesis on my L4/5 so I feel uncomfortable when the back is hyper extended. Any recommendations? Thank you!

Thanks! Spondylolysis/listhesis are usually caused by to much Flexion AND extension. Watch my videos on “Extension intolerance” and follow those steps to feel better. Good luck! 💪🏻

It's only natural for your body to adapt its skeletal structure to the way you sit to Lessen the stress, lessen the use of muscles and be convenient. If your spine deformed in some way it also can go back to it's natural form by sitting correctly and doing exercises for the muscles that lessen the stress on your spine so it can adapt quicker. At first sitting correctly may seem wrong and you may get tired quick but that's because you're no longer accustomed to sitting the correct way. I hope your spine has gotten better since the 5 months.
