Brandon Caldwell awesome that one didn’t do very well so i sold it and went to a 4 bottom plow. This past year I bought a 5 shank chisel plow and will be using it for the first time soon
did you pass a cultivator after the chisel? i have similar old fields and was thinking of passing twice the chisel plow then maybe twice a cultivator and broadcast new hay mix seeds
How many HP is your tractor. I just bought the 66-7 plow with 7 shanks and that is probably the limit for my Massey 60 HP? They say 10 Hp per shank is the standard.
@@wbsims2996 Depends how deep you plan on going. 5 Shanks deep will press my 60 HP Massey. I don't understand how you are using a 5 shank with 30 HP! I also have 4WD. A tractor without 4WD is like a pick-up truck in 2WD...... unless all you property is dry and flat. Rule of thumb from all the farmers by me is 10HP per shank
@Rcol 4427 depends on what I am plowing. In Mt garden plots that I have been cultivating for 10+ years I go 8+ inches on the first pass, go much deeper when I finish with the 5 shank. I finish up with a 5ft tiller on my 2515h. In New ground or pasture I try to get the plow points buried the first time.
You plow first and breaks the ground or turns the ground and leaves large chunks. Then you disk the ground which you will see in my vids breaks those chunks of dirt into a fine seed bed
How hard did it pull. I been looking at getting the exact same chisel plow but my JD is only 32 hp with 4wd. My soil is much sandier but been on the fence as to whether I could use a 7 or would have to settle for a 5 chisel.
It pulled pretty hard on my 100hp 4x4 JD it was unplowed ground. I mean you can always unbolt tines and remove them. But I would say the 5 ft would be better for your tractor. Mines for sale.

They are kicking back son because your ground is hard pan underneath that is normal after you plow it a couple of times it will get easier or moldboard plow right now and then chisel plow it after I'm aboard play all the hard clay ground I have because a chisel playoff 800 horsepower tractor won't pull for4 through it
Yes it was and those springs were a bit weaker I have modboard plowed a few times now. I have a new pull behind 5 shank chisel that should do better now.
I have a semi Mount 5 bottom John Deere in perfect condition all it needs is the tire on the back if you would like it I can get it for you for $800 it has no points moldboards are all good on it looks really good I will send you some pictures if you would like tomorrow
I mean it has new points spring trip it's to big for anything I have and a john Deere plow don't plow well with international tractor I have the float works different between the tractors
Thanks for the input I am searching for a jd 7000 4 row no till I don't know how the tractor would handle a 6 row but maybe! Also in the market for a 30ft sprayer.

As a former pesticide applicator I also have come to understand how toxic chemicals are to plant life and soil and water quality so it’s definitely not good to save the soil structure from being destroyed while covering the crops in pesticides which are also toxic
