Chit Chat - Do an Experiment with me: Baking My Ring!

I have done this with several cz rings. It DOES WORK IF YOU DO IT CORRECT. First clean the ring really well with Dawn dish detergent, dry with a clean wash rang. DO NOT tOUCH THE CZ's AFTER CLEANING THEM OR YOU WILL GET FINGERPRINTS ON YOUR BAKED STONES! Take a glass pan line it completely with reynold wrap putting the shiny part showing up. Put your ring or even several rings in the pan. If doing several rings space them out well. Put the pan in while the oven is cold then set your oven to 400 degrees. I bake them for 3 hours then turn the oven off, taking the pan out once the oven is completely cool. I will wait a few hour and repeat the above process two more times but only for 2 hours the 2nd and 3rd time. It really does make a difference in the large, 1 carat and above cz stones. It adds a warmer color and more depth and dimension in the stone. It will NOT make any difference in smaller side stone especially the emerald or baguette cuts. Sterling silver will come out tarnished all you need to do is use a polishing cloth to make the sterling silver shine again. I hope this helps. As a warning do at your own risk as I am not advocating that anyone do this process, just telling you how to do it. If you are going to try this please use an inexpensive cz ring first because you do not want to possibly ruin an expensive ring. I would personally never put one of my gold rings with cz's in the oven to do this.

Fascinating! I have never heard of this before. But then again I don’t wear rings because I feel I have large fingers (not fat necessarily, just too big for your standard in store ring purchase). Im a jeweller (Etsy, Zulusmouse) and I think there is a bit of confusion. As far as heating up gemstones you can heat them up to make the colour pop and add sparkle but its to such a high temperature your oven doesn't even come close to being hot enough . CZ are glass so I am really interested in seeing what the glass does but I suspect its the same problem with getting enough heat at home .

So, if its a priority for you, jewellers can alter your ring for your knuckles! They extend the band slightly, but then add beads in the same metal to the inside, so that its big enough to get over your knuckle but still stays put through daily wear! Awkward knuckles runs in my family haha. I noticed a lot of difference after cleaning the rings but none after baking them, fun experiment though :)

I feel the same way about my long, skinny piano fingers. The cut of some rings can really make a difference. It definately seemed to have some blue after. Two videos in one week was a treat!

Yes Jenna Marbles!!! I agree with you, her content is just getting better now that she's a "32 year old laaadddy" I am feeling so inspired by her plant tour video. I definitely think her and Julian are already married, and if they want to keep it to themselves, more power to them! I had never heard this baking CZ ring thing before, I would be so nervous that something would melt and smell up my whole house. I didn't notice a ton of difference in the before and after. Th baked ring maybe had a little more dimension but nothing that is super noticeable.

Really enjoyed this, funny and informative. :). I tried baking 2 of my least favourite cz rings, a cheap silver qvc one, and a tacori silver plated with rhodium or platinum can't remember which. The cheap one with small marquise shaped stones definitely looked better, but surprisingly the tacori one, which is supposed to be good quality (qvc collab jewellery) was wrecked, the centre stone had little burnt bits inside the stone that looked like carbon inclusions, and the two smaller trapezoid stones on the side turned black on the narrower part of the stones, burnt..., and so were the prongs holding them in place. So in my opinion it may depend on the initial quality of the cz, surprised that tacori were so bad! but the reason I baked it in the first place is that the stones were always a bit dull, and had a greyish cast on the narrow bits of the smaller stones, I've heard people say Berricle doesn't bake well either.

Well this was fun!! I tend not to wear rings but I know why you mean about bigger rings suiting certain fingers. I have fat fingers so a bigger band always looks better on me.... not too many of them in fashion any more :( However I feel we always need late night editing Marie..... she may be my favourite!

Personally, I prefer the appearance of the ”raw” ring. Fun experiment!

I have weird fingers, too. My hand is mostly fingers. I went to press a buzzer the other day and my finger did not bend normally. Totally straight except for the very tip which bent into a sort of hook kind of shape. Sometimes in pictures I notice that most of me is posing normally but my hand is doing something weird and claw-like!
