No one has stage presence or charisma like Chita. Add to that her incredible voice and acting? Utterly unbelievable. Even just listening to her on cast recordings, I believe every word that she says or sings. She is a one of a kind diva, one of the last of a dying breed. God bless her.
I fell in love with Chita Rivera as a kid when I saw a clip of her dancing in West Side Story on a PBS program. The Electricity in that performance came right through the TV screen and gave me shivers up and down my spine! Since the I would scan TV guide looking for more programs of that nature hoping for another glimpse of that incredible talent. Living in California, I have only been able to see her once live on Broadway in "The Rink". Any chance to see her, even a clip on RU-vid is a treat. Thank-you for posting.
Loved her and seeing this again with Chita high kick and leg extensions it made me recall how she would jokingly say " it kinda wants to make your leg go up." 😂 Nithing but happy memories of meeting her back in the 70s.❤ Shell always have a place in our hearts💘
As incredible as Charlotte is as a dancer and actress........you’re going to tell me they couldn’t find an Hispanic actress, dancer, to play Anita for this Broadway production? Just ridiculous!!
Amen. And as wonderful as Debbie Allen was in the revival, they should have cast a Latina. I am not happy that the two female leads in the film of West Side Story are only part Latina.
@@richardmayora1289 Part Latina or black doesn’t bother me.......but a white girl? Never!! Did you ever see Karen Olivo as Anita on Broadway? She was perfectly cast and won a Tony Award for her performance.
Exactly! Sidebar, Debbie was divine, but yes, Charlotte for this role on this stage was to me an insult. The dancer should have been Latina or some ethnicity for sure. Charlotte doesn’t even really shine in this role. If it’s chorus line, we’ll call her.
