Mozart was 17 when he wrote this; Chloe was going on 14 in this performance. She conveys the youthful spirit of the piece so beautifully! I'm so happy that this is finally out for mass consumption! We love you Chloe!
To everyone: thank you so very much for your warm support for Chloe and the orchestra! We told our Chief Conductor Hans Graf today (he's in town for our upcoming concerts) about all your kind words and he was not only very grateful to all, but expressed how important it is that we must continue to do our best to protect and support Chloe's growth. We hope to play with her again soon!
You're welcome. Nice to see that Chloe is still rehearsing/ recording with a live orchestra even during these difficult pandemic days. Special thanks to violin owner for generous loan of this beatiful and invaluable violin. I had tears in my eyes.
You can do anything you set your mind to. Don't let anyone or anything stop you. Especially great talent in others. Use it as inspiration. As Chloe would say.." You can do it! Trust in yourself ".
As a casual fan of classical, I’m not sure what it is I love so much about her playing. Practically speaking, there are obviously many virtuoso violin players like Midori, Hahn, Etc. But for whatever reason, I don’t feel the connection to the music like I do when I hear Chloe play. I wonder what it is, the fun TwoSet connection, being a prodigy, or what. But her playing sounds so pure and I love it.
I haven't watched Chloe Chua on video with Twosetviolin so I'm not influenced by her youthful personality, but I agree with you that she connects deeply to the music. She is simply fantastic to listen to and sounds so mature.
I think we just have to admit. Considering her age or not, she is one of the best violinists in the world right now. Then, considering her age, I can’t even imagine how bright she’ll shine in the future.
To me, her pacing is what makes me connect to her. She's never in a rush. She always has plenty of time to approach the next note a good as she can. She is capable of playing the most technically challenging pieces, but seems to be only interested in the musical aspect. Technique is purely a tool, never a goal with her. Those are my 2cts.
I actually feel happy to hear Chole Chua play. Instead of ruining my self-esteem she inspires me to do my best. I'll continue to do what I am good at as well as correct what I make mistakes in.
I loveee your perspective! I hope people start to see Chloe as a source of motivation rather than someone who tears away at their self esteem because of her skills :)
There were Amadeus' giggles, and now there are Chloe's... for those who know her as Brett and Eddy's teacher. Such a wonderful interpretation of his music with the Singapore Symphony.
@@Diana-kk6qz Brett and Eddy are RU-vidrs called "TwoSet Violin". They featured Chloe in a couple of videos as their "Sifu"/"Professor Chloe" as she utterly destroyed their self confidence and 20+ years of violin practice. Very fun videos 😂 Now those two were former professional orchestra musicians too. But the child genius is at a whole other level. 🙌🎻
Chloe is wonderful in several ways: Every note is in perfect tune; Her playing is precise; and She exudes the presence and emotion through her performance that’s appropriate for the music. Bravo! There is one other violinist who played in a similar manner through her childhood: Hilary Hahn. Both have a clear, perfect, precise technique that’s so clean and enjoyable, Hopefully Chloe will be allowed to continue her all-around development into a smart, caring and lovely young lady, too. Thank you Ms. Chua!!
Chloe is a wonderful young lady. It must be a bit strange playing a live concert to an empty auditorium. She plays marvellously and has grace and poise too. I hope she plays for many years.
You are right. But it is more than caring of course. Chloe is passionately in love with the violin's sounds! In a recent Symphony 924 interview she explained that she really enjoyed practice because it involved just listening!
Today, the 13th of April, is the 3rd anniversary of Chloe's recital in the first round of the Menuhin Competition. As she stepped on to the stage, she could have had absolutely no inkling of how her life would be transformed over the next few days, let alone of what she would go on to have achieved by now. Although she performed the Bach with which her recital began extremely beautifully, it is clear that she did not enjoy the self-belief and on-stage well-being that is manifest in even her semi-final performance four days later, to say nothing of the magic she conjured up in the final. That her recital turned out to be so well received must have been a huge boost. How fitting then that we can celebrate its 3rd anniversary by delighting in the world class Mozart she gives to us here, and that views of her performance in the Menuhin final will pass 5 million tomorrow! How fitting too that she is going to revisit Bach-for the first time, I believe-when she performs BWV 1017 at the Copenhagen Summer Festival this August! Her so doing will surely prove that she is as great an interpreter of Bach (and the Baroque) as we now know her to be of Mozart (and the Classical). (Her “2018 Winners” recital, which is to be streamed on 18 May on the Menuhin Competition’s channel, features three completely pieces; and, not to be outdone, her Festival recital features four more! Her program is here www.copenhagensummerfestival.dk/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/2021-08-13-Chloe-Chua.pdf Amazingly, the Festival features not only Chloe but Alexandra Dovgan too! This is beyond all reason. One miracle is hard enough to get one’s head round, but two in the same place at the same time?! Yet the Festival is ridiculously cheap. A Partout ticket giving entry to every recital over the whole 10 days costs just £79! Full details are here. www.copenhagensummerfestival.dk/
Chloe performed Vaughan Williams "The Lark Ascending" a few hours ago on 2 April 2021 in the Victoria Hall (Singapore) with the Re:Sound Collective. Judging by her sublime performance of Massenet's similarly visionary "Meditation" from Thais, I think this must have been a profound and very moving occasion. I hope she and her audience alike were transported by the beauty of the piece. I was fortunate enough to watch her soon-to-be-posted performance of Mozart's violin concerto #2 when it was streamed last autumn. Those who are yet to hear it are in for a wonderful treat. It is world-class music making and a triumph for all concerned - Chloe, Hans and members of the orchestra.
i had the wonderful opportunity to play with chloe and we ended up being good friends. she gives me goosebumps every time i hear her play! i wish her the best :)
Oh my! I cannot believe what I have just watched and heard! She is a prodigy of prodigies! But I also have to say, the Singapore Symphony was right there with her! I am floored by the SS, and the whole production. The video was great, and the sound recording and mix was totally awesome, totally captured her sound and the symphony's as best I could imagine! What a world class symphony and venue!
What a superb performance! She is so together with the orchestra. She blends with the tone and spirit of the orchestra effortless, never stealing the show or overtly pretentious.
Chloe literally becomes the music. It can be scary at times, I won't lie, but every time that smile comes out, I get that reminder that she's a kid like me, just one who loves music so so so much! Truly inspirational!
Wow! Chloe is truly amazing. I was first introduced to her talent through 2-set, and since then have followed her wherever I could listen to her. She is a marvel and wonderous talent. 👍
Mozart at its best!!Chloe is really very joyful!!And her Interpretation of Mozart is crystal clear!!!A very clear structure!!Congratulation!!I like the whole Performance!!!Congratulation!! I like also the harmony in her face!!
(Edit: Chloe is using a Petrus Guarnerius, _Venice_ ,1729 according to latest info from her RU-vid channel's video) *An interesting bit of info in the video description* Chloe's violin is a Guaneri... " -Peter Guarneri, Mantua 1729- , on generous loan from the Rin Collection".
@@Colonel_Kassad Yeah, her violin must've been of exceptional quality to be worth that much... Peter Guarneri's violin are not as highly prized as those by "del Gesù" Guarneri. The highest auction price for his violin was 890K sold last October.
@@appl2597 The sound of that violin is on quantum level. The first time Chloe played this concerto I observed a dozen angels listening on a cushy cloud. One of them even had a tape-recorder running, I swear. :)
@@appl2597 Bartolomeo Giuseppe 'del Gesu' Guarneri was actually Pietro's nephew. Pietro Giovanni wasn't a prolific maker but compared to Bartolomeo, his works were much more consistent in quality. But the dates confound me here. Pietro Giovanni of Mantua supposed to have passed on in 1720. So if it was 1729, it would have been Pietro of Venice, Bartolomeo Gisuseppe's elder brother instead. So which is which ? The date being wrong or the maker referred here being wrong?
@@maxxevv3328 Yeah I notice that as well when googling for info on Pietro Giovanni of Mantua. It's obviously a 'mistake' by SSO but I have no idea if the date is wrong or if the maker is wrong.
For those of us who have been following Chloe since the Menuhin competition in 2018, we each have our favorite pieces. Most people remember Menuhin 2018 for Chloe’s enchanting performance of Vivaldi’s Winter, but I was more impressed by her renditions of Hubay’s Carmen Fantasie Brillante and Piazzola’s Café 1930 during the semi-finals. IMHO those renditions are some of the best I have heard - mature, measured and with tempi at the cutting edge. When she performed the violin solo of Bartok’s Romanian Folk Dances at the Atlanta Festival Academy later that year, her feet barely touched the ground as she sat in the first violin chair, but the precision and ease of her bowing technique was clearly visible even through the long lens of the camera that recorded this performance. When 12-year old Chloe returned to the Atlanta Festival the following year to perform Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy, I swear I heard her violin breathe between two long phrases and she was totally unphased when the eminent pianist, Gordon Back, had a mishap with page turning. I still like her performance better than the others I have heard. Hans Graf said she is a just schoolgirl until she takes up her instrument. Then she becomes a full-fledged artist. It is astounding that she played this piece so well at 13 years but not surprising at all when you consider all the talent and skill she already possessed from years of disciplined practice.
Your sharing aptly captures the essence about this young artist. Having settled in Boston/Cambridge Massachusetts for 3 decades, I recently resettled in Singapore for my retirement. With profound gratitude to my homeland Singapore, I count it as my great blessing to be able to attend all the live concerts Chloe has been performing.with the SSO. Chloe is indeed Singapore's most well treasured young musician. Again, thanks for sharing with us your observation of her presence at the Atlanta Festival. Her exquisite rendition of Mendelsohn's violin concerto was indeed memorable.
@@lbchua5733 I don't know if I've captured Chloe's essence - she has an enormous reservoir at her musical core and that is a very private matter into which I really don't want to intrude. We are all very fortunate that she shares some of it with us through her music. I am green with envy that you have been able to attend the SSO live concerts. I was looking at the upcoming concerts and performances scheduled for Victoria Hall as well as the Esplanade and even though they don't include Chloe, just WOW, It is wonderful that Chloe has so much support in Singapore and I am sure that support includes people who are advising her about her study abroad in Germany. Her skill level is already so high, am not so sure that a number of the "great" teachers out there would necessarily help her tap that musical reservoir even though these teachers might be very good for other students striving so hard to get into the elite category of violin soloists on the world stage. Am also not so sure that she needs to enter more violin competitions, including the Queen Elisabeth competition which just concluded - the level of the finalists was extremely high as was the pressure. Perhaps she might consider that and other competitions in the future but my strong personal preference is that she perform with more orchestras, quartets and accompanists in Europe while she is there. The audiences will love her as I'm sure those Europeans who have heard her already do.
There was no Atlanta Festival Academy in 2018. The inaugural event was in 2019 Like the Sarasate, Mendelssohn and Vivaldi, the first-chair Bartok was one of Chloe's (indeed superbly performed) duties there in 2019. 🙂
@@jackburgess8579 Wow, Jack. Thank you. I thought it strange when I was looking at the dates of the videos but it also seemed that Chloe had grown a little when she performed the Sarasate. Thanks for the clarification!
Chloe is to perform Mozart's violin concerto #5, likewise with Hans Graf and the SSO, on the 28 July, and so only 10 days from now The concert, which includes Richard Strauss's Don Juan and Brahms 2nd symphony, *is to be streamed live on the Singapore Symphony Orchestra's YT channel* . Happy days!
Thanks to the Singapore Symphony Orchestra for giving us this wonderful gem that I had the opportunity to stream last December. It's always a wonder to hear you perform this concert, and it is wonderful to hear Chloe's performance again. Thanks to everyone, from the heart.
Her playing is so amazingly beautiful and uplifting, almost as much as her smile is. The video of her playing Vivaldi at the airport is the best I have seen of her delightful smiles.
There is no video of Chloe playing Vivaldi at the airport! The video you are thinking of involves not Chloe, but rather Yeonah Kim. Born in 2014, Yeonah Kim is seven years younger than Chloe (who is 13 in this video but 17 now). Yeonah was having a lot of fun at the airport, but like most prodigies, she is very much more serious when performing on stage or in competitions (as you can see in the performances posted on her YT channel). The most magical and enchanting performance ever given by a prodigy is the one that Chloe gave in the final of the 2018 Menuhin Competition Final (junior), when she was 11. If you don't know it, I cannot recommend it highly enough. It is posted on the Menuhin Competition's YT channel.
PS Chloe performed two works in that Menuhin final. The second was Vivaldi's "Winter." At the airport, Yeonah performs the final movement of Vivaldi's "Summer." A video of Chloe likewise performing it on stage as part of a live concert, when she was 15, is posted both on this channel and on Chloe's channel. The whole concert was recorded and released as a cd, Chloe's first album!
It started as a funny reaction video. I typically listen to bands like Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith. Let's see some prodigies that'll be fun. Now I'm nearly pulling my hair out trying to find as many Chloe Chua performances as I can get my ears on 😆
There are 180+ videos of Chloe on YT! Sadly, they are not easy to track down - a typical search on YT doesn't yield half of them - but if you go to Maria Ludkin-Finnie's YT channel you will find a playlist containing all of them. (You will also find some of Maria's own compositions. I particularly like "The Black Rose." She is, I think, a bit younger than Chloe.)
@@thethinkingtreefrog8061 You are welcome! Actually, Maria has yet to update her list with two further videos of tracks from Chloe's forthcoming CD - the Largo of Winter, and the first movement from the Locatelli concerto. Sadly, these videos have flown completely under the radar. Both have only a few hundred views. This is especially unfortunate in the case of the Locatelli, since the cadenza in it is one of Chloe's greatest and most mind-boggling achievements. Here is the link, not just to the Locatelli but specifically to the start of the cadenza. The sound is so rich and complex that the average listener would think that Chloe is accompanied by the orchestra. But in reality, and incredibly, from this point on she performs solo for 2 minutes and 30 seconds straight. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MV9DMQtuDPE.html
Chloe's music is truly expressing. It is not her playing Mozart's piece. It is her telling her own story. Throuhg a true artist's performance we communicate directly with them. I watched a lot of Chloe's performances and she always plays herself, not like anyone, not for anyone, not even through the composer. I can only see her shining creation which makes me forget everything else.
Classical music is one of the best gifts of life. I wish I was taught how to play any instrument when I was young so I could partake in beautiful performances such as this. At least I can still enjoy this as a spectator. Thank you to the Orchestra and to miss Chua!
I am very glad to see that tomorrow's SSO concert is sold out. Good luck to everyone and, especially, to Chloe with the Paganini! (The cameras will be there too, so hopefully the rest of the world will have an opportunity to see and hear the concert eventually.)
She is my beloved powerfull idol of violin. She is like the sun. Please I give u all my dreams in your hands, Reach everything that I cannot reach and paint it with your colors.
as a 14 year old myself (hopefully future violinist) Chloe really inspires me. I'm currently learning this piece too and this is for sure the best recording of Mozart's vc 2 I've heard so far! Thank you for your beautiful playing dear Chloe.
How nice to see Chloe again after 3 years!, after seeing her winning the Menuhin Competition in 2018. She has perfect play and a beautiful tone! Only 13 years old! She is a marvel.
If I close my eyes it feels like a 50 years old professional performing. The famous one. But than I look at it again and wonder even more. Music is so good! I can't stop dive into that awesome feeling and forgetting myself in music.
My dream come true would be Chloe Chua play and Yuzuru Hanyu skate! That would be absolutely match made in heaven!!!! Precision, clarity, technicality, musicality, charism, hypnotic, the whole works!!!!!
She is so good! I also noticed the whole music recording quality is very good, maybe partially due to lack of usual background ‘noise’ from the audiences.
Amazing performance! Thank you so much for sharing, @Singapore Symphony and congratulations to Chloe, Hans and the orchestra on such an amazing performance! ❤️ Greetings from Switzerland!
Chloe's performance of Mozart's violin concerto #4 at the Zhuhai competition in 2017, when she was just 10, remains delightful and uplifting. But that she should have transitioned in just three years to such exquisite refinement, sensitivity and command as are on display here is a magnificent achievement. Most if not all of her fans are familiar with the Zhuhai performance, but I suspect many will be surprised to learn that she already has a third Mozart violin concerto up her sleeve - namely, #1 - having performed it at the opening concert of the Festival of Nations in Bad Worishofen in September 2019. I know of no video, but an account in the local press by a very admiring reviewer, who admits to having been somewhat incredulous at what he was witnessing, can be found on-line.
Su ogni nota c'è tanto studio e tanto sacrificio.
Yes, you are right. Chloe's Mozart is deserving of such a magnificent and historic setting, no question. These days she is also a master of late Romanticism. Her performance of Chausson's Poeme two days ago as part of the entertainment at this year's Menuhin Competition is similarly monumental (as indeed is the rest of her recital). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P2SshKK-Wzc.html
Thank you for posting the "short" of the applause after Chloe's performance yesterday of the complete Four Seasons! Since so many of us who sadly could not attend were eager to know how the concert went, posting it was a nice gesture. My only complaint is that it might have been a little longer and it would have been very nice to see and hear the applause after the Locatalli too, and so at the end of the concert. Congratulations to Chloe and to the SSO on a great success!
You're welcome! Sorry it was so short! We usually post these clips on our Facebook/Instagram channels, but we thought to drop a copy here as well. The good news is that the entire concert was filmed for a future release - so do stay tuned for that and further news about Chloe! Meanwhile, we can only share that some 2600 people in the audience witnessed last weekend the extent of Chloe's musical prowess and growth. Everyone is gushing with praise.
@@singaporesymphony Thank you! Such a long and demanding concert was a big step up for her. I am so glad to hear that it went so well. Congratulations again to the SSO, which is clearly providing her with the support and opportunities she needs.
I played this concerto 35 years ago for an exam, but I played another cadenza, written by a professor of the violin from Leipzig, Mr. Thiemann. The other concertos by Mozart are technically mor difficult. I still remember well. I watch already for a long time, that the after-growing violinists practize and play firstly always all these virtouos pieces from the 19. century (Saint-Saens, Ysaye, Paganini, Vieuxtemps usw.) and then come the great concerts from the 18. and 19. century: Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Bruch, Beethoven, Dvorak, Brahms. Perhaps, these pieces are really the most beautiful ones , what there are as sheets for concerto musik for the violin. Chloe plays very mature and musically.
Absolutely! That Chloe is miraculously gifted musically has always been clear even in her performances of technically demanding pieces such as Sarasate's Carmen and Wieniawski's Variation on an Original Theme. But Mozart tests an instrumentalist's musicality to the absolute limit, and on this occasion Chloe passes it flying colours that I think none of her peers can match. (As you say, ditto Bach. The Bach with which she began her recital in the first round of Menuhin 2018 likewise exudes fantastic musicality. It is surely no accident that she is going to revisit Bach--for the very first time I believe--in her 13 August recital at the Copenhagen Summer Festival.)
The first movement sounds a energetic and graceful as Chloe! Just great playing! Now on to the second movement... Edit: I was breathless after the second movement, and now back to normal after the joyful third! Thank you so much Chloe and the Singapore Symphony!!
