The reason there not Popular is because there not pop. Let me explain.... they have a sound that electronic, R&B with an Avant Garde sound. That doesn’t really vibe with a lot of people. Many artist get that way because they don’t want to be pop and don’t conform with what’s in. Janelle Monáe, FKA Twigs, Björk, Banks, Florence & The Machine, Grimes, Childish Gambino, Jidenna, Kid Cudi, Lupe Fiasco, M.I.A., N.E.R.D., Raury, Skylar Grey and so many more I can add to the list. All those artist make art and don’t really care about making hits. Most of them will have a hit but after will stray far away from that sound that made them a hit because they focus so much on the music and art and what they put out in the world. They end up not caring what becomes successful or not. The media unfortunately makes them seem like there failures because they haven’t had a hit even though there selling out shows or having a high fan base. It’s sad that music is now define to what sells instead of the art and meaning behind it. Sorry didn’t think I was gonna write this much. Rant over.
