Do you think we need more uses for Chlorine?
@AlexKasper

Chlorine-filled rooms can kill germs of containers of liquids and gasses. It's a quick way to mass destroy slimelung in PO2, as well.
@OgdenM

Hmm, it might be a good idea to make a bigger room and add in some farming tiles for Balm lilly (to cure slime lung) AND also some storage lockers to disinfect materials. You could also do polluted O2. I know late game a lot of people like to have rooms with dedicated purposes but.. lets face it, it's good to have water purification early game. Making multiple chlorine rooms is gonna be super time consuming also. So, might as well knock out 3 usages for a chlorine room right away! Oh and for those asking how to make a chlorine room couple options: a) Just build this whole thing in an area with chlorine already. Just make sure you make a liquid lock before you dig into the area or you'll have chlorine escaping into rest of your base. Also, make sure you put any of the bleach stone into a storage container IN in the chlorine room, it will keep generating more. ----Draw backs of this is that the chlorine area is probably not in ideal locations on the map. b) Build a room wherever. Turn it into a vacuum. Mine into a chlorine area, collect bleach stone. Put stone in storage container and wait for the room to be full of chlorine. ------Draw back of this is well, you still have a large are full of chlorine. You might have to pump it out later if you ever need that space for something. c) Build room, turn to vacuum . Use gas pipes etc to pump chlorine from where ever on the map to the room you built. Harvest ALL the bleach stone in the area and put in storage in your chlorine room. ----------This by FAR is probably the most time consuming way to do it. But, you end up with the free open space right away so.. eeeh.

How do we even get a room filled with chlorine in the first place 😭😭😭 no one seems to explain
@2LegitCity
@2LegitCity 2 года назад
Good Question! First, make a vacuum room! Here's a video explaining how to do so: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WvQfpAsNXKQ.html , then you can build a vent and pump some chlorine gas in via Gas Pump! Just make sure you don't have Dupes wearing Oxygen Masks going inside, since they will breathe out co2.

Make a vacuum room. Add a storage container w/ bleach stone. The bleach stone will eventually fill the room with chlorine. Or, you could just build the whole thing in a area already full of chlorine. There are typically several on the map. They might not be in convenient places though. You could also pump chlorine from the map areas into a room via pipes.

This is a good way if you have access to plastic, which you don't in the early game. I found the classic three water reservoir technique to work best in this scenario: build 3 mechanized airlocks (sideways) on the ground with one reservoir on top each. They are connected in series. Use a simple cycle sensor (set to 50/50) to send a regular signal to tank 1&3 and an inverted signal (using a not gate) to tank 2. Just make sure you start filling the system when the green signal is sent (prevents liquid to exit tank 2). All you need is a downstream water sieve. This works quite nicely and is maintenance free.

instead of jsut experimenting im just going to look at your videos. i was trying to pump in clorine gas into a pool of polluted water with germs in it. only good way i have figured out to kill germs is to heat it up or cool it all the way down. So thank you again for another video. im going to watch this whole video. im going to ask more dumb questions if questions about clorine arent mentioned.
@VirtualHolocaust
@VirtualHolocaust 10 месяцев назад
ok now my dumb questions. How bad is clorine for hte dupes? I have been advoiding it like its the plague literally. Same with the brain fungus flower things in oil biomes. A big discovery i made once by mistake was that clean water doesnt damage a the water sieve. Didnt clean water used to damage it?
@2LegitCity
@2LegitCity 10 месяцев назад
dupes know instinctively to hold their breathe and thus are not harmed by chlorine or any other gases at that matter. however they will be harmed if said gas is extreme hot. so you can swim in it and not be harmed. for the water sieve, and its true for the desalinator too, any type of water will bypass it. polluted water and reg water will passthrough the desalinator to the exit, same with salt water and brine & reg water through the water sieve

Skip automation, have a loop line with 3 or 4 resorvoirs so it only lets water out when all 4 are full. Just prefill the line before you hook it up for normal startup. No automation, no worries, it'll cycle and clean automatically.
@tcironbear21
@tcironbear21 2 года назад
There is a simpler way to do this. Just chain 4 full reservoirs together. Normally all the germs are killed by the time it leaves the 2 or 3 reservoir. The next two just make sure it is clean.
@2LegitCity
@2LegitCity 2 года назад
that doesnt make a difference if you dont maintain liquid levels. if all the water empties out of your 4 reservoir chain, it acts the same as the setup in the video

@@2LegitCity Just put a pipe bridge from the output line to the input line, now it will only output as much as it inputs, the rest will loop around.

True it just takes forever to fill four tanks of pee. One might need the water sooner as a coolant or for producing clay. But it is definitely an option.
@tcironbear21
@tcironbear21 2 года назад
@@Rig0r_M0rtis I actually do this with clean water very early in the game when I am at like 5 dups. So since the daily inflow is sooo much higher than the daily outflow that it gets done in just 3 or 4 cycles. Also I always do the cleaning at the start of my intake. My dupes are always finding creative ways to get their pee & vomit in any and all standing water I have.

How come you need a timer for this? Can this not just run 24/7?
@2LegitCity
@2LegitCity 4 месяца назад
contents in a pipeline are not affected by chlorine- so you have to stop the flow to let the contents of the pipeline fill the reservoir then it can interact with the chlorine and have germs destroyed

I dont find any material to make plastic, do you have other clean germ setup?
@pporappippam9687
@pporappippam9687 2 месяца назад
you could manually cut off pipes/automation wires from shutoffs/storage to stop the liquid from going out and stay inside storage, if you dont have access to plastic yet but you will always need to keep an eye out for that

Is it possible to do something similar for polluted oxygen? do you have a setup or any advise? Thank you for this setup!

yup works with gases too, just swap the liquid reservoir for a gas reservoir, works the same way
@anthonygorham5299

And other mfs got me hooking up tepidizers or whatever to do it that way. Atleast I can save nearly 2kW and make use for my mass amounts of chlorine early game. Thanks!
@yosharian
@yosharian 2 года назад
So when you say 'timer' you actually mean 'cycle sensor' BTW it's quite easy to set up a dual timer system that cleans the entire system without any need for the germ sensor (and thus the plastic) at all.
@2LegitCity
@2LegitCity 2 года назад
yup my bad. for the dual timer setup without germ sensor, its not 100% germ free- the first few bubbles that leave the reservoir always have germs since they sit in the pipes. so i didnt include that because i didnt want people knit-picking at it
@yosharian
@yosharian 2 года назад
@@2LegitCity Um I literally just did it yesterday and got 0 germs dude, have been running it for at least 30 cycles now and had no germs at all i'm telling you you do not need the germ sensor
@yosharian
@yosharian 2 года назад
@@2LegitCity ok brother i owe you an apology! the dual timer setup doesn't work after all. well, not quite. it works as long as you never let the last tank get empty. if you let the last tank get empty, then when the timer activates and lets the germy pwater into the last tank, it goes past the tank and into the pipe connected to the shutoff, where it waits and can't be cleaned. if the last tank never gets empty then that can never happen - so you can actually still make it work, you just have to let out enough pwater from the last tank such that it never empties (that way the germy pwater can never go past the tank and enter the pipe, because the pipe is full of clean water) it's only a short term solution as you have to keep fiddling with the timer depending on how much pwater has backed up, but it does work until you get plastic, i guess.
@2LegitCity
@2LegitCity 2 года назад
@@yosharian looks like you stumbled upon the 90% design, but not fully unlocked it yet. so, you basically described the "never empty tank" properties as a way to keep the water clean of germs from incoming germy water. that is correct, however its best not to utilize a timer/cycle sensor for this. you should actually use the liquid reservoir automation line into the shutoff and its really that simple. you set the sliders on the reservoir similar to a smart battery and get that exact outcome you want with better uptime/downtime. maybe i should make a video on it
@yosharian
@yosharian 2 года назад
@@2LegitCity Ohh ok that sounds really cool. Yeah I would love to see a video on that. I'm pretty far away from getting plastic right now so it is really useful to be able to set up the bathroom -> pure clean water loop without it

if your playing dlc rads can kill germ much faster

@tcironbear21
@tcironbear21 2 года назад
@@2LegitCity Also rads is not something you can not set up early. My chlorine room is like one of the first things I set up. I hate it when your dupes get food poisoning and are constantly getting sick all over the place. They inevitably puke right in your water reservoir and then from there is gets every where if you did not set up a chlorine room early.
