Referring to ‘gang life’ as a ‘dead end’ is not meant to be sensational or to instill a sense of hopelessness in those tied to that world. The reality is that true gang life does not come with a happy ending for those that choose to stay committed to it. Violence, paranoia, anxiety, victimization and death are commonplace in that world. What money and material goods one may acquire are often nowhere near what was imagined and often of little pleasure or use when one is constantly on guard, always fearing arrest or attack. Thankfully there are options and ways out for those prepared to help themselves.
