Battle of Maski, Chola's army strength was recorded as 900k. 2. Battle of Red Cliffs: Cao Cao's army strength was recorded as 800k. These were invasion forces, which means ~50% force had to be left to guard their home base and other borders. These numbers were confirmed by multiple sources. I don't think it is wise to challenge that. There is a reason why Indian and Chinese regions could afford such a huge population. Do not view Eastern history with western mindset.
