Want to install shotgun shocks yourself? Well, you're in luck, because it's actually pretty easy. I go over each step of the install and review and compare the air ride afterwards.
Can I just comment on how good the cinematic were? Also, valuable commentary with out the useless fluff. And the music... great choices and not too obnoxious. Great job. You should be a sales person for Shotgun.
Thanks man! I spend a tremendous amount of time on getting the cinematography just right. Even with all the time and effort, some things are just out of my control as a (1 man band). I appreciate the good vibes you send. Thanks for checking it out
Great product from a great company! I have one on my 15 deluxe had it for years had an issue with it once they 100% warrantied it and didnt charge me for the labor! Highly Recommend!
Just dropping onto these videos you have posted very informative and helpful thanks for putting in the time and effort to complete a great mini series of videos great work..
U have one of the best deluxes I’ve ever seen. Nice work. Just bough the shotgun rear shocks for a 12 deluxe after watching your vid👍 Thanks for the info
One of the better videos of the shotgun shock install on a softail. I hope JD gave you a deal, just for the advertising. Did you remove your swing arm stops ? Are you still running the lawn cans on your forks? And do they cleared the new fender? Who’s front fender did you use if you don’t mind me asking? I have air ride on one of my bikes, I picked up a new compressor from JD a year ago and have not yet installed it. It’s nice to have adjustable rear suspension on the fly, especially when you hit the twisties. Then there’s the cool factor when you park it.👍
Nah no deal, I didn't tell him I was going to do a film on it. Probably should have though. And no problem with clearance with the new fender. Fenders are made by pickard. The fork cans are made by drag specialties and are 2" over stock. I touched on that in the fork lowering film. I may change things up on the front end though.
I've got shotgun shocks on my 2007 cholo heritage. You are correct about the ride, its amazingly smooth when you got it setup for your personal preference. I typically only mess with the front toggle switch, I find its easier to get back to my personal ride stiffness. Ill dump the front switch when I park, takes about 30sec or so to air back up when I leave. Great video and tutorial, I subscribed after watching a few of your videos. Great content and sick ass bike bro.
Bro, I'm a Mexican American born and raised in East Los Angeles. I've seen many Bikes by real cholos in my time. But this is definitely one of the better looking ones I've seen in a while.
Great film JT I just installed the same shock great product.. Easy install and awesome harness mine went in a little different to yours being the 07 Deluxe compressor mounts to the underside of the trans..Still working out the best ride height and rebound but lovin the slammed look you can get..look forward to a review after you have a heap of miles on it. Again awesome film work ..👍🏻🇦🇺
Sweet Tutorial bro. Your bike is sick sick sick last question. How tall are you bcuz I just bought my Carlini 16”. With 2” riser. Is that your set up I’m 6” tall just wondering any feed helps keep up your sick build LA fan
Thanks bro, my best advice would be to literally scour the internet for pictures and videos and get a really "clear" idea of how you want yours to look like. Personally, I changed my mind a few times during the course of this build and it cost me thousands of dollars to replace parts that I already replaced. For example, this bike has had 4 exhaust systems in the last 3 years, 3 intakes, 3 floorboards. Just to name a few
Thanks man, here's the link www.ebay.com/itm/Harley-Davidson-Big-Twin-99-19-FXD-Dyna-Softail-Spark-Plug-Wires-White-Black-/173272649791?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286
I have had the shotgun shocks since I bought my 2014 Breakout. It has failed 4x already and now they won't warrant the shocks. They stated since I am not the original owner of the bike, they won't warrant it. They warranted it the last three times, but it was done through Harley, so I guess that says a lot. I wouldn't recommend these shocks. I am looking for another brand, anyone have success with anything else?
J.E.T. I like your new look. I just want to lower my bike....you mentioned the 422's were great. I dont want to spend the extra money for the Shotguns. Do the 422's ride well and provide a lower look?
Yes, to an extent. The further you lower it the harder it gets, naturally. 2" was pretty brutal. I found that 1.5" was a decent tradeoff. It looked good and the ride was bearable. For a 200+ mile trip I'd usually ride at about 1". It def made a difference. Adjusting it took about 5 min once the bike was on the lift. I'm sure it's possible to adjust without the lift but the lift just makes it easier. Long story short, nothing will ride smoothly fully dumped. But the 422's are built to last, ride better than stock(at stock or near stock ride height) and can get you a decent ride up to 1.5". Oh, in my opinion, the 422 RAP version isn't worth the money.
Great video, brother. Question for you, though. Did you experienced any problems with that air ride? Like loosing air, pressure...and so on I had very bad experience with my air ride last year (different brand). After 6 months I just gave up and went back to shocks. Thanks.
No problems at all with the shotguns. I believe they have a failsafe to prevent air loss at all costs. If you're willing to give it another try I would definitely recommend them.
Thank you for the fast response. Btw, you mentioned in different video that you found company that makes fishtails in various sizes. Woul you share what company it is? I need something between 36" and 39" Planning to go with 4" stretched fender instead of 6" and thinking that 39" could be too much and 36" not enough...Btw, if you planning in the future to attend Myrtle beach bikefest, I live in NC 2 hrs north if Myrtle...maybe we can hook up and do some riding. My build should be done next spring...
nice scoot bro. air ride is definitely next on the list for my m8 deluxe. I've been leaning towards the shotgun shock just worried about the compressor clearance where my samson crossover pipe is. has anyone out there accomplished this yet??
@@arturocalamaco3786 I have the true dual samson straight pipes... the crossover on the Milwaukee 8 goes under the bike. not like the twin cam Harleys. thanks tho
I have a 20 deluxe crossover is our only option installed shotgun mono shock air ride barely fits , but it will work, only thing is if you have cross over exhaust and air ride no room for center stand !
You did it again buddy... Video is awesome explained the process well and even said the truth about riding with air shocks... I also have shotgun shocks but on my 03 Road King and love pulling up to places and watching people turnaround looking for the bike releasing the air and when they see my bike getting dumping I get the thumbs up and smiles.... Keep up the good work Guero... From your friend in Los Angeles....
This is the best install video yet on how to install this shock. I know now I don't need to buy a different jack. The owner of the company is an awesome guy and have no problem at all giving them my money for an awesome product.👍💯
Hey bro! Love your videos, awesome photography and filmography, also, so informative! Thank you! All your builds are bad af!! Going with air for my 2014 Deluxe, not sure which one yet. My question is, what did you use on the front on this bike? I love the stance on it.
Great video......just got back from Sturgis and got the itch for an upgrade on my 07 Softail Heritage was thinking about which air ride to install, going with Shotgun and was a little concerned about the install but you made it crystal clear... thanks John... Going to order mine this week.
Sick vid as always ! Idk if I asked already but how do you feel about some hard bags ? Also what’s up with your homies bike the road king I think it is ??
Definitely thinking about hardbags, especially lately. I think they can really look good on a softail if done properly. Maybe sooner than later. Sams road king will appear in the next film about our trip to myrtle beach, he had it painted and did a few more mods to it since it was last on camera. I'm going to try to get that bike on film a lot more this summer
Dude, I love your videos man I’ve got a 2004 heritage softail. I’m slowly but surely bringing that cholo into it. Your videos are very helpful. I appreciate it dude.
I need these soooo bad. My Texas Chopper is 2 3/4" from the ground and I drag frame on the right turns and kickstand on the left ones. Hell, I had to buy an ultra low profile pancake jack just to get my front wheel off. Up to 3 more inches of ride height would be a dream.
John I'm newISH but I love your style , and bike I've been looking literally night n day for the mirrors and arms you have on this bike please please let me know where you got them already you have me looking for swing arms to pay frame !!!
Thank yo for the very detailed install process along with a review, this answered all of my questions regarding this air shock. Keep up the great work.

I'm sorry bud, but one day I'm going to get another bike and do it exactly as you have done it. I know it is copying you, sorry. Or.....you could just sell me yours 😆 love your videos brotha !!!
Get some osprey bags. They look tits on cholos. killier old skool look. Not bulky or boxy lookin and you can put quite a bit in em for a trip. The guy hand makes em in Pennsylvania. Google Osprey Saddle Bags.
Dude, I have watched all of your cholo vids prolly 3 times and they never get old. Starting my cholo build right now. Wish I could do everything all at once.lol
Haha thanks dude. Getting everything all at once sounds good, but in reality it's so much more rewarding when it happens slowly. I've said this before, enjoy the build process because once it's over, it's over. I always suggest the "big 4" first. Because that'll get you in the game. Wheels Suspension Bars Exhaust
Badass bike brother! Your videos are inspiring me to go out and buy a deluxe and cholo it myself. I’m saving my money to get one now! Keep up the awesome videos!
I’ve been waiting for this video for awhile, I knew it was coming and you nailed it John. So informative and detailed as well as adding your dope film touches. What made you go with shotgun instead of SAS? I’m just curious, seems like the SAS would be a much easier instal.
Thanks man, yeah SAS sounded really promising with their built-in compressor, but I read that because it's built-in they had to sacrifice the size of the compressor leading to much slower pressure build up times. Also, they just didn't have the reputation and support that shotgun had. My research indicated that if you want the best, then shotgun is the way to go.
Hey friend, I’m on the fence between the 422 W/Rap and jumping into the air ride. Not sure my night train needs air but it needs some drop. You’ve rode them both minus the the quick ability to adjust the 422. Is the ride quality comparable? I’m also drawn to the legends because they are a nitrogen shock BUT I’m not any lower. What’s your two cents friend?
I wouldn't bother with the RAP 422s, at that price point you might as well get air ride for a few hundred more. It all depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to slam it, then air ride. If you want to lower it a little and save a lot of money then the 422 RAP. The legends are a great system too
Dude, great video. Which are your thoughts between Legend and SAS back suspension it for a softail heritage 2013? Shotgun does not ship to my country...
Long standing reputation? Do your research. Legend was the innovator and produced the first air ride for softails back in '98. I've had multiple softails and every one of them had a Legend air ride, never had any issue.
Who came first wasn't relevant. My point was that shotgun has long been accepted as the better system. I understand the confusion, I could have worded it a little more specifically. And I hope your Legend system continues to work flawlessly for you.
Have you added front air to this kit* I may do it soon let me know what you think I can do to make this clean a fast air tank? Or a deverter valve not sure where to get it from*
This now has front air too. I showcased that in my Layframe film this past summer. Fast air is possible and I'm considering it. If you go with a road king nacelle you could hide the tank and compressor in there. They also make an externally mounted tank that cleanly bolts to your rear fender strut. A lot of the accessories for air diversion/management are sold by Dirty air. But if you know what you need then you could find those parts anywhere
