Well in music there's always a driving melody and accompaniment, a cantus firmus and counterpoint. If we apply the same concept to guitar, there's always going to be a lead and rhythm guitar at certain sections. The cool thing about CHON is that each song and section is different about which guitarist is doing the majority of playing, rather than your traditional lead/rhythm guitarists. This song for instance, is a Erick heavy song, but balances a little Mario with his solo in the middle.
BigElephant I heard in interview that they see the guitar like a piano one the left hand and the other guitar is the right hand that's why it sound particular.
The latter half of this song is absurdly good and painfully nostalgic for me. Chon at this time and around the time of Grow were the soundtrack to almost everything I did.. studying, cycling, smoking.. so important to me. I HOPE EVERYTHING IS GOOD FOR YOU BOYS🇬🇧
The solo of this song is prolly my favorite guitar solo of all time. I get emotional watching these guys play these days. Seems like so long ago when I first stumbled across a sub genre of music in my mom’s basement called “math rock” and I heard these guys playing amazingly. I am so sad that they have not been making new music… I miss my favorite band 😢
You’re not alone, this is one of my favorite solos, even math rock songs. I love the crazy tapping in the second half of the song, it literally sounds like an organ.
My kid saw you guys last night live in Cambridge, MA. He had an awesome time; he also plays guitar. We both love your material. This style of playing is way different than the stuff back in my day. Very few had this style back in the late 60's or 70's! Keep up the great work. Thanks!
+dontswin Welcome to the internet, where people are the true assholes they pretend not to be in public. Best not to reply to those kinds of comments, it only gives them what they want
@@dontswin Man just wanted to say that i appreciate your comment and that is nice that you and your kid are into Chon. Don´t listen to internet trolls, they are just sad people looking for attention. Have a great day!
look at Animals as Leaders....bands with no vocals just don't really blow up and start winning awards or making TV appearances. People don't appreciate music with no words like they use to. Just look at some of the great Pianists and Orchestras of today....heard of any? No? I thought so. Even Moondog who created several instruments and was a blind musical genius wasn't TV famous.
+John Doe His is guitar is RG321. It's has been discontinued and replaced by rg421 which is the updated version of that guitar but without neck+headstock binding.
Jay M bro idk ab that. There are vids of them as young teens playing harder stuff. there potential is not even realized yet. I’ve never people this nice with guitar. Pls this stuff is really hard to play. I’m nice with guitar but this shit is stupid.
patrick jaroch i know this is really old comment but you should check out this band called Jank they have a song called The Hat Store, reminds me a lot of Zappa
Bands like Polyphia are talented just like these dudes but I have a stigma against bands who put a lot of time into video production. This guys are simple and do not need an extremely well-produced to get noticed or to be recognized. MUCH respect for the CHON bros
Here at 999,995k views, just barely short of a million views for one of my favorite CHON songs. Love the vibe and character this song illustrates. So much richness and lore.
Guys! I had an epiphany in chemistry class today! CHON stands for the four most common atoms used in organic chemistry: Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Nitrogen! Who knew?? :D
There are 7 scale shapes called modes. Once you have memorized each of the 7 shapes, playing the 1.3.5.7 at each mode, like Mario does becomes easier than you would think. it's quite simple actually. Metaphorically, the square block goes in the square hole. The right chord, from the right mode, in the right key... If this doesn't make any sense, now you know what to go learn. MusicCoachMike.com
0:41 and the fast tapping in the second half of the song are the ones giving me the most trouble when learning this song. Probably one of their hardest songs to play but I love how it’s been challenging me to meet to the physical demands to play this song accurately and skillfully.
you guys are so good at what you do! your music is REAL, you just sit and play it, nodding your heads, exactly like the record. I'm glad I can support you buying your EP on bandcamp, everybody should, c'mon guys!
When i saw these playthrough i cant explain with words what im feeling, is just magic, something from another world. Is a great feeling to be alive and see you 2 playing and making amazing music with hard riffs, good harmony, funny and hooky songs. Thank to y'all for these kind of videos. I'd love to see new playthrogh from the last album with a raw sound, nothing fancy tbh. Thanks for give me meaning to my life again.
Love this song so much as well with their other songs but what catches my eye is the background the environment is so chill and really fits in with the song.
the only rock guitar I listened to is Van Halen because he got melody and in a weird way funky groove... that was many years ago. You guys not only have melody but also harmony, you've become my most favorite band. All other rock so call guitar gods, all they have is techniques. What God's gifts you both have in writing/harmonizing... in a weird way, take out the rock drums, 4/4 meter, and the distortion efx, and you music become all genres or cross genres... Your music has so much potential to appeal to all because is pure music...
