I'm wondering as to what their gear situation was like back then. Seeing Erick ripping along on what appears to be an Epiphone Les Paul just goes to show that you don't need top notch gear to be an awesome player. I love CHON
+Robert Boyette dude i know, I'm surprised the rest of the band didn't freak out like DUDE QUIT RUSHING THE SONG haha, as a drummer, i know we sometimes rush stuff but holy crap.
That's Esiah on bass, nathan and marios brother! after Drew left, they got him to join again! Weird how he was the original chon bassist and now hes back in the saddle. Just saw them live a few days ago, they were all fantastic
@nobody if youre talking about drew, then he left because of artistic differences, if u mean esiah then i think i read somewhere that he didnt like their sound or something
how the fuck can you be that good on guitars at 16?????its mind blowing , mario and erick comes fro other dimension, im pretty sure they're not humans...
I know Nate was only 11 but that left crash is fucking killing me. Also that tempo on perfect pillow is insane I love it. This whole performance is great, especially considering how young they were.
This is so fresh to see. I'm quite sad that there isn't any new projects planned for Chon right now. But just looking at the band when they were young and full of energy, it's great.
The music is great and all but we're missing the point that the drummer is 11 in this video. I wanna see kids of today or the future be this extraordinarily talented.
this is inexplicable ! such talent on this guys since aways, mindblowing. nathan a little guy killing in the drums in that time and now a days even more. I will always be grateful to Chon for their awesome music and for all the inspiration they cause me.
BuLLeT2431 I probably should have articulated myself a bit better here, I essentially meant that I didn't associate an LP with Prog Metal/Math rock stuff that they do (other than TFOT)
BuLLeT2431 slash’s shred is kinda different. Erick’s is across the neck. A sticky neck wouldn’t help him. That’s why fast necks coated with satin were created. I had to buy one of those to actually master shreds and sweeps.
I'm 17 and in the past five years cannot compare at all to any of them. Chon is a truly gifted band. Also, I'm pretty sure the bassist is the eldest Camarena brother.
I sincerely look up to Chon in terms of musicianship, virtuosity, and so many positive attributes and characteristics they possess. I found this video back 2-3 months ago and it has sincerely changed my life and the way I play music IN GENERAL. I aspire to get to their level and even beyond (in a health way of course). This is real music and the fact they were teenagers at the time of this video is so inspiring and beautiful.
These guys, even st this age are like the 4 horsemen of whatever genre you can put them in. It's unbelievable how SKILLED all of them are at this age. Listen to the drumming!!!!
What impresses me more than how young they are is how quickly he got that good, Mario and I are a year apart from what I gather I am fairly certain he was born in 93 I was born in 92 and started playing around the same time, when I compare myself in 2008 just two years into playing guitar it isn't even remotely close, and I was well above average. I should have fucking taken lessons, even still I would be nowhere near CHON talent, I can almost play Temporarily Destabilized but the last solos are fucking madness and its been ten years. How the fuck did he learn what I learned in 10 years in 2 years at age 15 or 16? They honestly must have not done their homework, not gone anywhere, not talked to anyone but just practiced for 2 years?
I feel you man, I've been playing for almost 10 years now, but with no where near the dedication that these guys have and it shows. However these guys honestly inspired me to start taking it more seriously and now it feels like I'm getting better everyday. It's never too late to start!
Funny thing is the same thing with me, I have really been putting my head down and getting the hours of practice in. Got Splash under my belt feel like I am progressing quite a bit. Hope its going well for you too.
Can't believe how incredible they were back then. They were better players than 99.99 percent of us mere mortals will ever be. Mario is amazing, but Erick stands out at this age, the dude was already essentially flawless. Listen to mountains of creation. Fucking flawless
Totally agree! Also crazy how INSANELY well their playing styles have always connected with each other, like as if they're just two sides of a single musical brain lol. Like finding another prodigy of a player would already be awesome, but for their styles to ALSO match up soo perfectly despite being pretty niche is even more insane. And just cuz you're a recent comment I'ma say that you should seriously checkout the band "Breeze!" (their EP is called Paradise with a black n white image of a person- just adding all that cuz they're super tiny so you might have to scroll a little bit through Spotify to find them) cuz I super randomly checked some dude's instagram profile since he commented on a guitar-centric video, so I watched his first vid n it was a little Chon cover, then I saw that^ (his) band was linked on his page n so decided to just check it out and I swear I think it's the best Chon-like band I think I've heard, clearly taking directtt inspiration from them. They even have a little Chon reference in one of their songs (I posted the band on the Chon subreddit and the guy somehow saw it n responded to me confirming that it was intentional lol), you should listen to it n see if you know what I'm referring to! I think my favorite songs were 1 n 3, but they were all super good. The only sucky part is that the production isn't too great, but the playing itself is for sure. Seriouslyyy you gotta check it out n let me know if you liked it dude!
Holy fuck they're so young. What is the drummer 12 here? Very impressive for the age. No wonder they continued to put out great music. This through a Rectifier and Marshall is pretty hilarious though. This band needs snappy edge of breakup clean amps.
