Chonda Pierce is a standup comedian who’s passionate about her faith. In her new documentary “Unashamed,” in theaters May 7th and 9th, Chonda travels across the country speaking to people who have learned how to stand up for Christ, even when it comes at great cost. Today Chonda shares how she’s learned to let go of hangups that cause her shame and how to tell others about faith with kindness and boldness.

I'm not a Christian but I love how open she is about everything in life through Christianity. Too many people hide their prejudice and negativity behind Christianity. She uses it as a way to bring out her humanity and form deep connections with everyone. Much love

Chonda, I remember going to San Francisco on a business trip in the 1980's. We were all taken to a restaurant where our people were ordering alcoholic drinks. I ordered a Sprite. Sharon, a lady who was in charge of me while I was there, stood up and called out to me from another table, "Melissa, you can order a real drink! You're 3,000 miles from home. No one will ever know." I knew I had to take a bold stand. I also stood up and answered, "Well, not only will I know, but the God I serve will see and know, so I will just drink my Sprite!" The others, to my surprise, applauded! And Sharon found a deeper relationship to God, which she still has today.

Making a better choice and not worrying what others will think! Don’t be like the crowd or don’t take the wide road, take the straight and narrow road instead that is Biblical! I had an employer once tell me that I had to quit talking about my faith and about Christ while on the job. I "might" offend people. I came in contact with Senior Citizens daily on this job. Sometimes they were "down in the dumps" or just feeling old, and I tried my best to lift their spirits. I ignored what my boss told me, and prayed openly with those who were hurting, and we talked about Jesus and the hope for a better tomorrow that He has promised. I think I made a difference some days, some days not. Who really knows. But it made smiles happen and that made all the difference. I didn't get fired, either!! Thank you for being such a wonderful influence to so many. Bless you!!

Put yourself into the hands of Jesus, and you will be able to maintain that deep inner joy, even as you are being hated by the world.. "If they hated Me, they will hate you.." Thank you Ms. Chonda. My mom brought me to one of your women's conferences years ago in Denver. Since then, I've raised my children (Tommy and Darren), as well as buried them both, 23 months apart. Darren wasn't given basic healthcare and died because of it, slowly over 8 months. Tommy was beat to death by cops in same city. I don't know what my future holds anymore, but I'm thankful for your laughter. I don't do that much anymore. Thank you, and God bless you.
