There's myriad of different slides to choose from, in terms of size and materials, but I hope this might be helpful in pointing you in the right direction. Personally, I think that fit and feel are really important. I find thin-walled lightweight Pyrex slides far too light to "stop" the string properly, and ultra heavy metal sides can be too weighty to play accurately and with nuance. My personal preference is for either a proper glass bottleneck cut from a wine bottle, or a good ceramic slide such as a Starsinger. For me, these have the ideal balance of fit and weight, feeling natural to use. There's no absolute "best", as it is a matter of personal preference, so you might have to try a few different slides before you settle on something that suits you.
