I worked on a few nuke plants. A trick we use is duck tape any sleeves around the gloves and feet to stop things from getting in I see you did that use a pair of nitrile gloves under your reg gloves. The best way to undress is from the head down, gloves last so you are not touching any contamination. Practice it you wouldn't believe how easy it is to mess up getting undressed. Always wash up avoiding touching your face the damage will come from ingesting from eating or drinking smoking.
@williamhansen9456
@williamhansen9456 4 года назад
CBRN is about more than just radiation... The mask goes off LAST!!! AFTER a shower with decontamination agents. Having someone to help you out is always preferable as it is impossible to undress properly on your own.

I'm glad you said that these suits get hot for people who have never worn a hazmat suit. I have worn a many different tyvek suits from my job as an asbestos / lead abator, Class C suits when working in the Alkaline unit of the oil Refinery, and Mopp level 4 during our regular chem attack exercises for Military. I've been making a living in these suits for the past 6 years. These suits are HOT. You have to remember that these suits are designed for nothing to get inside them, therefore nothing can get out either. All your body heat just stays inside. Even in below freeing weather these kinds of suits will make you sweat after a pro longed period of time. You add the fact that you are working into that and you can get tired very quickly. You're going to want a drinking tube on your gas mask, if not you will surly dehydrate after a handful of hours in one of these.

When taping gloves you can buy plastic cuffs that expand the sleeves and gloves to a flat fit so there are no folds where the tape seals them together. Also you use your hands a lot when your in the suit. Always wear a secondary glove on the inside. We wear p2 gloves. Made of neoprene. Latex gloves do not provide chemical protection. Always tape overlapping and leave tabs at the end on your taping areas for quick peel off when you have to get out. Glove to cuff is dependent on above head or below work. If you are working above then gloves should go over the cuff. If below then the cuff goes over the glove. Helps to shed chemicals in the right direction. Just a couple tips.

The whole over-under thing is ingenious! I'm surprised I never thought of this myself... I trained CBRN in the Danish air force and we always do sleeves over gloves... Which makes sense since most work in the military is below the head... I just never thought about this and it's a great point! Kudos!

I’ve been an oil spill and haz-mat responder for over a decade and you are absolutely wrong about the differences between Level B and Level C persona protective equipment. Both systems may use a variety of full-body suits to include various versions of Tyvek, Kappler, etc. These suits are designed to protect from chemical splashes (different materials provide different levels of protection from different chemicals) and dust protection. Neither level B or Level C will provide much vapor protection. And, the only difference between level B and C is that B uses supplied air and C is a respirator. Level A is, as you said, fully encapsulated and will protect against vapor. Regarding re-use of PPE, you must know the contaminant and how to decon your PPE appropriately if you’re going to re-use it. Most agencies consider PPE a one time use item for a reason. It’s also imperative that you “fit test” your respirator to make sure the contaminant doesn’t leak through.

That suit is actually a level c hazmat suit. Level b and c suits are the same except for the respiratory protection. A level c suit has a gas mask which just filters air. Level b suits have a SCBA wich is self contained which is a lot safer and means that you can enter environments that are a lot more dangerous to your respiratory system. Level c, and b are mostly for splash protection. Level a suits are designed to encounter almost any chemical since they are vapour tight.

Except those lvlAsuits and that filtration canister mask won’t do much. Not in a radiological sit. Those filters would only last a few days in a chem or biological sit. Canisters would clog quickly. If in deed these scenarios happen then god help us. Only those with the ability to go deep underground for a long long time maybe years would have a chance and if exposed one time would diminish much chance.

Only thing I say is that the suit should be outside the gloves with the chem tape over the seams. Only because if a chemical is falling, rolling down from the shoulders it can find it's way into the glove if it's on the outside. I work in the oil n gas refineries and have to use these suits. They also have cuffs to use at the wrist for suit and glove seams

Here's the kicker. We've identified 14 (minor to major) threats in our county alone. 43 when including those counties that immediately surround ours. If these locations were to fall prey to vandalism, succumb to mother nature's fury, or simply fall into disrepair/lack of maintenance, ...the various resulting CBRN contaminations could easily render certain areas uninhabitable. We have a few locations that a single pissed-off/traumatized teenager with a sturdy pipe wrench could almost certainly ruin any chances of sustaining life in a 1 mile radius. And a few more that the same person (if so inclined) could easily reduce selected waterways or impoundments to toxic death pits. Or in the case of rivers/streams, ...project these contaminants through an entire valley/watershed. Currently, ...these locations have more than adequate security and maintenance. Once they are abandoned? Lol. Good luck.

Looks like a decent set up. For a SCBA, they are readily available as reconditioned with warranty for about $1000. This would include a single refillable breathing cylinder rated for 30 minutes (read that as less than 30 minutes depending on stress and work load). To make it viable you would need an oil free air compressor capable of 2400 psi. Its doable, but not cheap. Spare cylinders are between $200-300.

Tychem10000 is a badass suit though. They make enclosed versions and hooded versions. The truth is that unless you have that enclosed scba version your goal is to get out of that area asap. Use these "level B suits" to escape a CBRN situation coming to your location because thats what they were made for. Not the other way around.

When I worked with hydrofluoric acid milling and manufacturing titanium parts, we wore them suits with hoods that were cooled with an AC unit. It cooled the head really well and sometimes the upper torso if the air found a channel into the suit. I wonder if an AC unit could be used in a PAPR system. In our suits the AC was powered only by an air line.

Just a tip for anyone who's gonna "tape up their suit", pre-tape the wrist area with the suit off you. This will create a non tear zone you can then tape over and remove ad-eternum without risking a tear if your tape is too strong. Just a tip from someone who's used one and tore it.

To combat the heat the suits need one or more battery operated, highly placed exhaust fans (say near the arm pits) with low placed filtered inlets (say in the boots), so as to draw air in near the feet and out near the arm pits. In such a case of course, gloves and boots would need a way of attaching to the suit without taping, so as not to block airflow. The heat is a serious enough problem to recommend it.

That isn't really a option on Class C suits, hell if I remember correctly it's only Class A that have a one way valve. Currently technology consist of three options: Ice vest, which can be single use or reusable, which would be worn under the suit. Activated charcoal suits, which provide limited protection and have a short life span but are more breathable. PAPR or powered air purifying respirators.

It depends on what your using the suit for, in an NBC situation you have to know alot or the suit wont do you a bit of good, knowledge is the best defense in a NBC situation. That suit wont do much for Chemical as most modern weapons are acidic, bio would depend if it was spread through air, contact or ingestion but the best defense is stay away from the contamination and nuclear is all about proximity to blast, fallout and wind direction from blast zone. But the best defense is just to stay away from contaminated areas.

Can anyone advise on a particular brand that I can look up that would be a good match for the MIRA Safety Haz-Mat suits. I am remaining hopeful to find gloves for not only me and my wife, but my children as well. I see MCR seems to be mentioned on the net, but there seems to be numerous types of gloves depending on your application. I would be looking for one to compliment these Haz-Mat suits listed above that would help protect from a chemical attack or worse. Any help for a noon is much appreciated:)

Great video as always! I think NASA (Never A Straight Answer) use some sort of a suit with tubing weave into the fabric. Water flow through the tubing to keep the body cool. You could create something similar for your Hazmat suit.

In the Army we always called it NBC, never heard of CBRN. NBC seems simpler though, not to heckle or split hairs, which stands for Nuclear/Biological/Chemical and covers all the bases when Radiologic and Nuclear seem redundant.

@@jacobhobbs6918 well i live in the somewhat lovely country of the Netherlands, and the closest nuclear plant is in Belgium, but that is like 200km away, and while that means not in the direct 80km radius, the prevailing winds here are from the south/west. Guess where that plant is in relation to the Netherlands, at the most south/western tip... If it goes, i'm not eating anything from my garden any time soon.

sigh, for some reason edit won't work :/ ... wanted to add that it thus means that the Netherlands are pretty much a goner, even though it sounds far away enough. I think if it reaches the state where you need a hazmat suit, it's really time to food supply binge and then go quietly. A hazmat suit doesn't work by just itself. Your shelter needs to be impermeable to the hazmat, your air supply needs to be impermeable to the hazmat, your water supply needs to be impermeable to the hazmat, your food supply needs to be impermeable to the hazmat, etc, etc, etc. And when you can finally go out and breathe the air, which is who knows how many years later, you'll need to grow your food. I think by then the suffering will far exceed the pain of dying a few years before. A hazmat disaster is in the final 10% of things which are hardest to prep for, and probably isn't worth doing at all.

PREPPERS ! If you haven't already done so, CHECK OUT Canadian Prepper's store ! He really has a great assortment of prepper supplies, including the suit & masks shown in this video. For US customers, any order over $200 ships FREE. Which means, you could buy the suit, mask, and extra filters - with a little extra to spare - and NOT pay shipping ! A GREAT DEAL !

You could make a vest (worn UNDER the hazmat suit) with multiple pockets to hold cold packs which could be individually activated by squeezing them one at a time through the hazmat suit. Obviously this would only work for a period of time, but that's better than baking in the suit without any means of cooling.

99 percent of the population in united states does not even know the difference between the radiation instruments. Let alone of actually owning one. Or where to buy a calibrated one . They would not know of radiation hazard if the local government did not inform them. In the city i live in some of the fire trucks have radiation instruments but they are turned off and stored in containers. People would have to show signs of radiation poisoning before the would even be removed from the containers ( the radiation instruments) . It would not matter in this city anyway there is no place to go , no fallout shelters nothing.

I really like your videos. I have some comments. .. These suits will not make you impervious to whatever environmental situation is happening. You need knowledge to use PPE (personal protective equipment) effectively. .. All chemical suits have various times for breakthrough. Meaning a chemical can "eat" through the suit over time. There are breakthough charts for each chemical, suit and the estimated time. Though this time frame is highly subjective, due to anticipated vs actual concentration of the chemical. That's why there is ALWAYS monitoring equipment on-site. The charts should be available on-line. .. Most suits are not made to be reusable. Don't know about you, but I would not want to put back on a suit I have just sweated buckets in. Also you don't know what the "new" break through time would be since the suit may have degraded. .. Heat, cold and sunlight will shorten the lifespan of your suit, respirator, canisters, gloves and boots. Appropriate storage is needed. ... Decontamination is for getting the chemical/substance stuff off the suit so you can safely take it off without exposing yourself. Water + one of two types chemical are used for decontamination. ... Type of gloves/boots/booties used will be dependant on the chemical/ substance. Again there are breakthough charts and recommendation charts available on-line. All classes I have been through use duct tape to seal seams btw gloves/boots and suit. ; ) ... If your truly interested in learning about this topic, you need to take a 40-hr HAZWOPER class. They can be found on-line or you can sit through an actual class. Be prepared to spend some time and money first.
