Yikes a kx100 lol. When my girlfriend was first starting she was on a crf150, which has like 3 hp and she still managed to whiskey throttle that thing into the trees a few times. Even with that lethargic dope of a machine she got hurt and had to stay off bikes for 2 years. She'd be afraid to touch a kx100 after the first twist of the throttle I'm sure. Make sure you get her some good gear! Another good option would have been a trials bike with a seat/gas tank kit. 150 lbs, linear power delivery, extreme maneuverability and the best way to learn balance, clutch, throttle control. But $$$$$$$...

Exactly what I bought for my wife (who grew up in Pine Grove by the way) for all the same reasons. I bit of a warning there is absolutely zero bottom end for lugging a hill climb. I added the heaviest steahly flywheel weight with little benefit to this. If you are stuck on a hill climb turn around and start again.

Another vote for the CRF230L, if you're looking for something dual-sporty and factory street legal. I'm 5' 7" 130 pounds and with exhaust, lighting, battery mods I've gotten the bike down from 268 pounds to 255 pounds fully gassed up. Going up a tooth in the front will get the bike into the 60-70mph range for a light rider. The XT225 would be a similar, suitable option for Jennie as well.

We have all been thru this before... The front wheel goes up when u have twisted the throttle a little too much, and the upwards momentum makes you twist it more, Then momentum and gravity, up down up down.. and.... and you launch yourself and the bike.. Happy Landings..

I think a DR200 or TW200 would be excellent for Jennie. Nothing scares a new rider away from motorcycles more than a scary amount of power. Something easy to ride and handle will keep her interested and wanting more! Modern offroad suspension just isn’t necessary to a beginner, they aren’t going fast enough over rough terrain to warrant the long travel! But good luck with this!

If you can make it street legal, and she likes a spirited ride, the KX100 will be the perfect choice for Jennie. It's light, fast, and has serious suspension that can take care of her while she's having fun. Make it easy on her and install a 10oz steahly flywheel weight on the bike.. It will mellow out the power delivery, but it will still have all it's power. (I got my wife a TTR125LE large wheel/electric start to replace her beloved Pampera 250. The suspension isn't as good as your KX100, but the TTR is the favorite ride of the grandkids and all the adult females in the family..) Good Riding!

I voted for CRF230L. Main downside are options for aftermarket parts. I've had my CRF230M coming up 5 years and I still search for non-oem parts. In my opinion, the CRF230L/CRF230M are solid bikes and fairly easy to maintain. Good size too, I'm 5' 5". The KX100 is cool though, I've always wanted one.

You guys chose the right bike. I have a kx100 and I am coincidentally 5'4" and it fits me perfectly if Jennie decides the powerband is too much for her I would recommend an aftermarket flywheel they make the power much smoother and much more beginner friendly. I would also recommend running less oil in the gas unless someone takes the bike out and flogs it after it's been putted around on or you will need to clean the carb out because the excess oil will build up and clog everything. It is a racing bike and the recommended mixture is for high performance racing not trail riding and road riding. I run mine at 50/1 currently the recommended is 30/1 I think. FYI I bought mine for 1200 2004 model with an aftermarket flywheel vforce 3 reeds and a couple of other aftermarket things including an fx seat cover. I just put new tires on it and it opened a whole new world of traction.

I can ride the bigger bike but it has to be up against the picnic table for me to mount, lol. Yes, mother and daughter go dirt biking, and we have a blast! Despite the Mario Kart rating I think the kx 100 is a perfect beginner bike. Good power, size is perfect for women or smaller guys, two strokes are easy to maintain just change that gear oil every few rides and keep the filter clean, weighs nothing. A lot of people say the 2 stroke is harder to ride because of the powerband but what the 2 stroke really does is teach you how to ride better. One problem I did have with beginners on the KX100 was that it doesn’t lug much and you have to work the clutch, but that’s what you need for training. Quick little bike perfect for beginners. I had one for a short period and loved it.

Yup. Perfect choice..... almost. I will be interested to see if you actually can get it to street legal in Cali. And to learn on that bike you for sure need to limit the throttle. Two strokes coming on the pipe can get a novice in trouble real fast. Reminds me when I bought an RM80 for my son long, long ago. Took it out to a field with him and an old riding buddy of mine. My son gets on it and stalls the damn thing about three times without ever getting it rolling. So my buddy swings a leg over it and confidently says let me show you how it’s done. So he revs it to about 12k, pops the clutch, and about one second later he was lying on his back moaning after that bike shot right out from under him. Everyone but him thought that was hilarious.
