Hello, my wife and I enjoyed a partial transit on Caribbean princess to the Panama Canal with stops in Cartagena, limon Costa Rica , Jamaica and Saint Thomas for 10 days and look forward to going back soon. Thank you for your video and your tips and suggestions we decided to go in mid December which worked out well.

Our ship - MSC Divina - won't go through the canal, but we have the option to take a smaller ship all the way through, then take the train back. About an 8 hour excursion in total. For $162 per person, that seems like good way to spend a day. Also, to actually travel to the canal, then not actually experience a transit, would seem like a waste. Sort of like going to Rome, but not seeing the Vatican.

That sounds like a great way to see the canal

Great Tips. If we were doing a full 14 days from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles, which side of the ship should be on? We are looking to book a balcony on the Island Princess.

Hi Danny either side is good but the consensus is you should look for your balcony on the port side or left side of the ship when transversing the canal Atlantic to Pacific

@@askarealtravelexpert thank you. That's what I plan to book.

The port side was far superior while doing a Seattle to Miami cruise last month. Was able to see ships in the parallel canal on our left as well as larger ships in the newer canal. Folks on the starboard side were also facing south for most of the cruise and had to deal with the sun heating up their staterooms. An added benefit cruising down the coast of North America is that most passing ships were off the port side plus land was visible from time to time. So, yes, sounds like the starboard side is best for doing the Atlantic to Pacific run.
