@mikebalko what kit do you have bro? Most basic kits are around 1000$. You got a good deal!
@bonzoligist6330
@bonzoligist6330 4 года назад
@mikebalko if you can't tell the difference, honestly i dont think your listing right, there is a big difference in sound and quality of the shell, comparing a cheap vs mid to high range kit or cymbals. Most seasoned professionals will all say the same thing. Now if you have good technique etc you can make a tin can sound a million bucks...but a mid to high end kit can't make a drummer sound a million bucks, trust your ears.
@bonzoligist6330
@bonzoligist6330 4 года назад
@mikebalko lmao...ok..you will understand one day.... all I have to say is trust your ears. What do all us pros Play on?? Not a $1000 kit that's for sure. Yeh sure you can buy a 1000 kit with good heads and it will sound sweet. But still there's nothing like quality shells, heads etc. Hell if you have good technique you can make a Tin Can sound good. And Really you don't have to justify to yourself and others about why you can only afford or play a cheaper kit or that there is no different in sound anyway, so I would only buy a cheaper kit etc etc. Waste of money,the list goes on.
@bonzoligist6330
@bonzoligist6330 4 года назад
@mikebalko omg dude....you have no idea do you, and you paid much less than a grand for probably something you cant even play yet, well done bud...me prove what that your out to disrespect people on what thay pay, making out its some type of stereotype hype, yeh mate the drummer is the dumbest member of the band you sure have outdone yourself there. Mate grow up your probably 15 acting like you know shit about what your talking about, and as for marketing its about the quality of the product, yeh sure like i said you can make a cheap kit sound sweet its been proven, your technique is most important, again someone with good technique dynamics etc etc can play on anything....probably some troll that gets off stirring the pot.... listen to guy...😅

I use my sweet ride for everything. I only have One other ride and it's very pingy, like glass, and i just use that if we're getting REALLY heavy and loud, and the sweet ride would inevitably get lost. Very rarely need it. My hihats are equally versatile. Not New Beats, but K Custom Hybrid. Love them to death ..

I just moved from an e-kit to an actual kit and this is a great guide! Very concise and clear! I appreciate the recommendations and alternatives. I picked up some Meinl Rakes with my secondhand kit and struggled to articulate what I didn’t like about them. Swapped to some secondhand New Beats and it’s exactly what I wanted to hear.
@cyberbandleipzigjams4493
@cyberbandleipzigjams4493 4 года назад
Good choice! An e-kit never can fully substitute the sound and feel of a "real" one, although the electronic sounds are very good nowadays. Check out Paiste 505 medium hats if you are searching for a classic sound and inexpensive solution.

CYBERBAND / LEIPZIG JAMS I grabbed a 16” Zildjian A Series medium thin crash and love it. I kind of want the 18” version too as my second crash. I also a 21” A series ride, which was a huge jump up from the cheap 16” I had.

@@anonymousforensic Sounds way better than the Meinl Rakers I assume ... Suitable cymbals aren't easy to find, but once you now which direction you like and which you don't at least the search gets a little more focussed. I mostly play relatively light Super Zyns (18" and 20") from England which I really love and which are incredibly versatile cymbals. For the real heavy stuff (mostly recordings situations) I switch to 20" Sabian Flange Ride and 19" Sabian Medium Light Crash. Super Instruments!

From my experience/musical preference, I’d say the hats are the only worthy cymbals from that series. Quite versatile, suitable for a variety of musical styles. In contrast, the bigger cymbals are way too noisy and don’t cut through the mix as much as I would like.

My favourite hats are the ones that I have, dough, trashy and heavy... Istanbul Mehmet Onuhran, Zultan F5 and Anatolian signature Ricardo G. I play pop and rock and have sold a 2002 and AAX set for those... The only way to understand what Is for you Is to listen to more cymbals than you can...and in the end you will surprised there are better sounding cymbals than the most famous one and at a better price...my suggestion Is to look to B20 handmade cymbals made by small Turkish companies.

@CameronBartholomew
@CameronBartholomew 4 года назад
I agree, I've got an older 90's pair of Zildjian K 13's that are my favorite hats ever. Super articulate and controllable, without sounding too harsh. Personally I never liked large hats. I just find them too sloppy. Same with the "sound edge" stuff.... not a clean sound, and it tends to produce a kind of hollow tone I dislike. Give me a nice set of 13's any day.... it's totally possible to find 13's that aren't too harsh, for the vast majority of applications.

For 1920s/30s Jazz/Swing they used really small hi hats at the time. Its one thing many bands trying to do those sounds get wrong and given the importance of hi hats in early Jazz it makes a big difference to the sound!

How small are we talking?
@andersingram
@andersingram 4 года назад
@@lt-yx1hx I'm not a drummer but from what I understand in early jazz e.g. up to the late 1920s most cymbals were small and splashy. E.g. the catlog of the popular Zildjian cymbals from 1925 lists 8-16 inches but nothing bigger. Its not till the 30s that bigger cymbals get more popular. In terms of hi-hats the original hi-hats (invented in the 20s) were like 8' ... its not till the 1930s that this evolves. neat article here:www.moderndrummer.com/article/february-march-1982-the-evolution-of-the-drum-set-part-two/

In other words. For hi-hats and cymbals the basic kit in the 1920s and early 30s is pretty different to now - worth some attention if thats the style you are trying to plat!

Also on that note…Sabian and Zildjian cymbals have little to no difference in sound. Due to the fact that it’s the same family, and the same family metallurgical recipe. AND I feel it’s worth noting, that since the Zildjian family are the oldest American manufacturers of cymbals, they (Zildjian and Sabian) are very generic sounding, mass produced instruments. I don’t mean any disrespect by this comment, they have some very great sounding and greatly appreciated products, and also some very lousy ones as well. I’d also like to add, that Meinl has grown by leaps and bounds in their product offerings. And yes, they also are a large manufacturer of instruments, however they have really been active in product development, making some of the broadest ranges of cymbals for musicians to choose a particular cymbal, or cymbals, to suit the tastes, and genres of drummers. Also, todays drummers have the opportunity to choose cymbals from many small cymbal-smiths, or small companies dedicated to producing some amazing sounding instruments. I for one, have been fortunate to find a company out of South Carolina, Saluda Cymbals, which I have been using their cymbals exclusively with all of my drum kits. They have been very helpful in custom producing, by hand, in B20 every cymbals sound and size that I have been wanting/needing for all of my kits. They also look great! And, I know that their are other smaller companies out there that deserve to be mentioned in these types of product review videos. But, unfortunately they’re not getting that attention, because Reverb is being paid by the ‘Big 4’ cymbal manufacturers (Zildjian, Sabian, Meinl, & Paiste), to promote their products. So, with that being said, I think every drummer, or musician owes it to themselves to research what other options are out there, and try out various cymbals, to determine what ‘sounds’, ‘looks’, and ‘feels’ right for you. There is no rule in art that says what’s right, or what’s wrong. Cheers!
