2020 old town predator XK minn kota here... been in some rough stuff on LM and handled like a boss. Old towns customer service is top notch as well. Cant wait to get out in spring for some coho!

Paddling is fine....once your gear is set up. Sucks while trying to set up. Yeah, pedal is more expensive, but very worth it.. i have one year on a Bonifide P127. Wow. I really liked my last one ( no name), thought highly of it, but for me ( 6'1" 220lb) there was no contest. It is heavy...holy wah...but awesome.

I have the hoodoo impulse 135 and I’ve taken it on Lake Huron on a glass calm day but have yet to put it to the test on some rougher conditions

I love my Jackson Kayak Kraken 15.5 on Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, I have never had a problem paddling it in open water But I have been looking at a Bonafidle SS127 or a Jackson kayak knarr for fishing inland lakes, The Kraken is a little too big for back water areas

right now its either or but you can add a motor to most pedal kayaks to have both but you can't do it the other way around.

Its a fantastic kayak for Lake Michigan! I love mine if I an going to peddle. If you do venture out, spend time in the harbor and just outside of it to get a feel for your kayak in the water/waves. Build up your confidence and feel for the kayak and its limitations. If you do this, it will pay off greatly. Don't rush just going out into open water especially alone.

My yak got stolen a few weeks ago.. big bummer as I had all my gear strapped to it. Holder's and rods, trolling motor, life vest. Someone pulled up and tossed it in a truck and took off

Thanks. Well, it’s kind of a loaded question lol in the scenario I like the motor cause the motor would do all the work in the storm but if the battery were to die or electronic issues, I’d be screwed paddling. On the flip side the hobie eliminated any electrical or battery issues since you power the kayak. That said in a storm you’re having to exert a LOT of energy to power your way back to shore. So…pros/cons to both.

I have a 132 pdl and really want to try it since I live in Madison. Quick question What do you think of putting a XI3 trolling on the front it since you own one. Is anyone trying that? I was thinking of getting one this year before spring.

I wouldn’t, I’d be concerned that the front load would throw off the yaks balance and ride in the water. As it pertains to LM fishing the bow will sit lower in the water and you’ll take more waves/water over the front. Have friends that have experienced this even in hobies w/ front mount trolling motor

To keep the cost down I was looking at LURE 13.5 V2 W/ OVERDRIVE or the DORADO V2 W/OVERDRIVE PEDAL SYSTEM. What are your thoughts?

I don’t have any personal experience with the brand but length ride you’re in the right range. Just from the looks of it they seem fine. I just don’t know how they would ride and what the hull design looks like to give a more informed opinion.

I’m not too familiar with it but the brand kayaks were created for oceans so I’m guessing it would be fine but I’d recommend a pedal version vs paddle

I don't trust the hobie drive. I have friends who swear by them, but I'll stick with the OT PDL.

The 360’s had some issues at launch, not sure where that stands now though. All drives are susceptible to failure on the water to be fair.

It can work but the Salty is a wet ride and I just think the Big Water would be better suited for LM.
