We went from a 30' Imagine travel trailer to a 35' Brinkley z3100 5th wheel. We love it, because it's a 5th wheel it actually pulls shorter than then 30' Imagine. We did however have to upgrade our 3/4 ton to a 1 ton. There's also the z2900 which might be towable with your 3/4 ton, but do the numbers. Things we like about it are the build quality. This is one of the main reasons we went with Brinkley. Additionally with the few issue we have had, Brinkley's customer service has been amazing. We also love the look of the of the rig both inside and out. The 5th wheel is also much easier to tow than a travel trailer. You don't get the sway that you do with a travel trailer and you don't get pushed around by trucks like you do with the travel trailer. It would be easier for Natalie to tow it, but she would still be towing a trailer. Toni had driven ours a couple times now and is quite confident in her ability to maneuver it. Brinkley does have travel trailers as well, but then you're back to the issues of Natalie having to tow a travel trailer. With a 5th wheel it's going to feel much more roomy than a class A or Class C because of the taller ceilings. This is a trade off though as we are now 13'4" tall. and that can cause some issues as well. As you guys move forward on your search if you have questions on the Brinkley 5th wheels feel free to reach out. We're happy to share our experience with one. Good luck on the hunt, and remember to take time to have some fun with it. It'll be stressful, but it should be fun as well.

I agree. 5th wheels are easier to tow and you are shorter than a TT for more space and storage. some 5th wheels are less than 13ft in height like the Reflection I believe, maybe the Cougar?? setup and pull down is definitely quicker too than a TT

For us access to the fridge and bathroom without having to put slides out is a must. Usually, it is the island that causes the issue. Although I would love the extra counterspace that the island gives. Like you say, compromises and trade-offs.

You should check out Outdoors RV brand of trailers. Very high build quality and their Back Country Titanium series trailers are built for off grid camping…with solar and generators. Thompson RV has a YT channel and does videos of the different ORV trailers. We just purchased our 2024 ORV Back Country 21 RWS Titanium…it is 26 feet tip to tail…it is very spacious inside and we love how nimble we are now after downsizing from a GD Solitude 5er. Good luck with your search!

Hi Laurence and Natalie! Great video on telling of what will be your next rig. It’s nice to hear what you want and what it is your are looking for. I hear you on those steps with the holes. I don’t like those kind. Not sturdy for me. They are noisy too too! Lot of Rv s I looked at out here at Rv shows they had those. I do wish you luck on getting the right rig. Can’t wait to see it too! I will pry you find the right rig for you! Hope you have a great week and see you soon!

We were in a similar boat… traded in our travel trailer (and my F-250 Lariat😔) for a class c motorhome… some days I still regret it. Driving a 32’ class c is often worse than towing the trailer (these chassis aren’t designed for this much weight) and I hate the E-450 cab after our truck (the 7.3L V8 engine is just ok and the V10 is barely passable)! Unfortunately a nice cab like a Ram or F-550 means you’re technically in a super C meaning add a couple digits to the price. I’m hoping to find a nice used super C or class A under 35’ in my price range. I don’t like the price but I would like our next rig to be a diesel because refueling a 32’ RV + toad is a nightmare (miss getting to use the truck lanes)! My future must haves are auto leveling, 2 ACs (live in Texas), a 12v compressor fridge, and preferably a TV across from the sofa (not sure why manufacturers can’t figure out the physics involved there). I would really like a fireplace, convection microwave and preferably non-schwintek slides (I had a bad experience… 3 times)! Best of luck in your search and God Bless!

One of my biggest requirements was to NOT have any water (of any sort) or LP in a slide. There’s already enough else to go wrong in RVs, no sense in tempting fate by trying to keep your moving water connections water tight. Since we have smaller dogs (mini-dachshunds), a fully clear front-to-back runway is nice, so the dogs have a place to run when they get the zoomies. We found a rig that met all our needs, but it came with a compromise - when the bed is in the sleeping position, to get to the rear bathroom, you have to squeeze between the bed and the cabinet that is for the stackable washer dryer (which we don’t currently have). That is mostly mitigated by partially retracting the tilt-a- bed when we get up in the morning. Oh, and the tilt-bed itself is a compromise as well.

We love our Super C… (it’s BIG) but they do make smaller Super C’s on pickup chassis that aren’t the regular Class C’s on the van Chassis. You could even flat tow your F250! Drivable RVs definitely have faster set up and tear down - especially if it’s raining! We were watching another channel with how they approach travel day in their 5th wheel… so much work 😅 Plus you can access just about everything as you are going down the road.

A 5th wheel will tow better behind your truck than a travel trailer. More weight in the bed and not on the hitch on the back. Class C means you have to get one big enough to tow your site seeing car, or someone will have to drive the car while someone else drives the class c. Couple things to remember. I'm with Natalie on the islands. I'm not a fan of them. Excited to see what you guys choose.

Simply not having the outdoor kitchen and bunks would allow for a 6' shorter rig. A length saver/visiting guest thought could be a convertible dinette (basically a drop down table that could be an office or two person seating or "bed") I saw on Matt's RV Reviews. 5th wheels are easier to tow! We have had two trailers and a 5th wheel and at the end of a driving day with the 5th wheel I only require one drink to settle my nerves (pros and cons). However, if Natalie is at all like my wife, she still won't tow a 5th wheel (we have a 30' Arctic Fox). I can't comment on Natalie driving a class A, B or C, but I suspect that you'd probably have to have the music cranked up so as not to hear the racket from plates, flatware, cups, pots and pans and window shades as you bounce your way down the roads. You would also probably want a tow vehicle or you'd be inconvenienced taking down camp every time you want to visit an attraction, take the kayaks to the lake or stock up on supplies. Good luck!

In the 38 years of RVing we have owned 4 rigs, a 18’ TT, 29’ 5er, 31’ Class C, and now back to a 5er (fifth wheel) at 34.5’ long. I would have preferred around 30’, but happy wife, happy life. It is a GD Solitude so the bedroom and bath are on the same level floor so no night time issues with a step by the bed and my wife’s artificial ankle. The issue with the Class C was noise, all the stuff in the rig behind you making noise since it is all open behind the cab and engine noise with in-between you and your passenger. E chassis is not as comfortable as my F350. It is more like a Cadillac than a truck. The Class C was a white knuckle drive out west here with all our desert winds and hardly know this blowing with a fifth wheel, even a tall one. I don’t like loosing my truck bed with a fifth wheel because I would like to hail an off road bike that I won’t truck on the rear of a fifth wheel. Pusher diesel are of course quiet, but mega bucks. My fifth wheel is much easier to level than a motorhome. I put hydraulic jacks on the Class C, but motorhomes just can’t level end to end or side to side as easy as a fifth wheel or trailer. Yes they can be quick, but only on close to level sites. Go into an old park or NP that close to level and the motorhomes are out crawling around with blocks, trying to even get close to level. Yes the motorhome is great if the other half needs something in the back, but having a truck is a must for many of us and DMV fees (taxes) can be high, even in NV, so having a vehicle you can actually use that you are paying fees for year round. I use my 4x4 for skiing and hauling stuff for the kids and myself. BTW I carry just a 2300W generator since I have MicroAir EasyStart on both AC units so I can stay close without going over my GVWR. I have the Andersen Ultimate hitch which works great with a SB F350, but I would go with the Reese Goosebox next time for the airbag because of the $hity interstate highways. You don’t need a 300 lb slider hitch if you have experience, a brain with eyes that can see your mirrors.
@technojerry
@technojerry Месяц назад
50 lb 2300W generator is easy to move in and out of the front storage compartment. With 990W of solar, I only take it on a trip if I think it is going to be hot or bad weather during week long dry camping like TX this year for the eclipse. I think I will do a DC to DC Victron charge controller and eliminate the need for topping off lithium batteries on rainy weeks and just bring the generator if I don’t have a trip where we chase the 70 deg weather.

happy that your getting a new rig! dont know your trucks limits? If you want a small 5th wheel alliance paradigm 295MK or a small Brinkley. should offer a ton storage and you can allways pull out the dinnet for more room for the dogs. Not knowing your budget, most class C and all those are pretty spendy.

I had two travel trailers, 27ft tip to tip. Loved the floor plan so much in the first TT, had to find another like it when it got in an accident. This floor plan would work for you guys. Queen bed at front, walk around-able both sides. Had a dining table on passenger side, n a couch opposite. Couch was on a small slide out. Curtain only for bedroom area NO WALL, thus to socialize can sit on bed, table seats n or couch. It Made a small trailer not tiny because the only wall was the Bathroom wall to wall the width of the back. Had two chihuahua's at the time, brought the dog fence in truck trunk n i made a magic screen doorway hung up by velcro, the dogs could easily go in n out rv on their own. Fenced around the doorway. Used chicken wire stapled to two pcs of wood sticks, one each side, used it to put under the steps, n dog fence clipped it to the main fence, chicken wire bendable so height adjustable to campsites. Keeping the sticks short. Easy to tow. I believe I heard now some small campers getting motorized jacks but u manually level, still motorized less sweating, n faster. Along of course a motorized hitch. I searched online, via the manufacturers websites floor plans (not dealers!) that way i could see all possible floor plans available on the market. Used excel spreadsheet sheet to track the manufacturers n any 'maybe's'. This was the best way to all options. Just Another idea. Cause a class C is another motor to look after n a lot more money by far if that's the way u want to go? 🍻

We also added rubber pads to the outside step for our dog(75lb doodle) that helped a great deal. I wanted a vented washer/dryer combo and am very happy with it. We are full time in the Brinkley z3100 and enjoying it. Brinkley customer care was exceptional with the few issues we experienced.
