This 68-minute video lesson explores an in-depth look at Berceuse in D-flat major, Op.57 by Frédéric Chopin. Written between 1843-1844, this beloved work was originally titled Variantes, but was published as Berceuse in Paris in 1844. It is written as a set of variations in D-flat major over an ostinato bass. Areas of focus in this tutorial include how to develop a softer and more delicate touch and tone, fingering suggestions, pedaling suggestions, how to improve your sense of rubato, tips for voicing, how to effectively shape phrases (and how to shape similar phrases differently), how to properly utilize finger action and rotation to make difficult technical spots manageable, reducing tension, tips for descending thirds, and many other concepts to help you become as efficient as possible in your practice sessions.

Basically Chopin flexing his ornamentation skills on everyone. It's a lovely piece and one I plan on learning at some point.

Insightful and detailed. Thanks Mr Josh... I can liken this hymn to you: We thank Thee oh God for a teacher, To guide us in these latter days, We thank Thee for sending Dr. Josh Wright, To teach us the right way to play... Haha..😀

I don't listen to this one a lot but I do love it. Getting the "quiet" is so amazing. Chopin is the best at "quiet"

Extremely delicate, and you really put your feelings into these notes. Such is Chopin at his best.

ive been playig the piano for a year now and im a huge fan of chopin and a huge of fan of your videos Josh. i play his ballade no.1 and etudes op25 no 6, 10, 11 and also his very last mazurka, so i thought the berceuse shouldn’t be a problem for me but now i realized the amount of sound quality , calmness you need to play this in order to master it and make it as light , effortless and dolce as it can be . thank you for the video

You’ve been playing the piano for a year and you play ballade no. 1?
@DavitMinasyan-rn3fv
@DavitMinasyan-rn3fv Год назад
@@iitalianii yes i practice a lot. but the ballade was nothing compared to op 25 no 6 technique wise

@@DavitMinasyan-rn3fv you play the coda? I mean people play for like 15 years before they can play ballade 1 that’s insane.
@DavitMinasyan-rn3fv
@DavitMinasyan-rn3fv Год назад
@@iitalianii i was having trouble with the coda especially the very first chords because i was playing them very heavily. that was like a few months ago i had only started piano for like 7 months but now the coda is much easier for me and after one more week of metronome practice i think itll be done

You can't play that after a year. Your comments are not truthful.

Lovely lesson Mr. Wright! I’m currently at an intermediate level studying a couple Nocturnes..I’m learning Chopin’s Op. 32 No. 2 in Ab Major and was wondering if you would kindly make a video on it. Or if you’ve done it on your patreon already that would be great to know! Thanks 🎹

Hey Josh, thanks for the great tutorial! I’m curious to know what pieces you think are the greatest in solo piano repertoire- the most sublime, perfect, profound pieces. They can be of any length! My vote goes to Chopin’s f minor Ballade.
