Carmen
One of my earliest memories is sitting by my parents' hi-fi (!) and listening to an LP of Mme Novaes playing Chopin's mazurkas; it featured the same 11 pieces. I'm deeply grateful to you for sharing this; wishing you well and hoping that many wonderful gifts pop up throughout your life.
I adore this recording…irresistible rhythm and rubato, always with that Novaes sound…I think my favourite is the last one (Emile Gaillard), with those velvety octaves and that perfectly rounded-off trill at the end, just bewitching.
Some musicians and musical cultures picked up African rhythmic sensitivity from African influence in Latin America or North Africa but. to my ears Guiomar Novaes' is the master, e. g."Carnival" .
Yes, an absolute gem! I still have the cassette tape from the seventies. She is such a great inspiration to all. My favorite is always Op. 24 No. 4 in b-flat. The rubato is so precise relative to the underlying beat. I am glad to have found this digitized recording. Thank you for sharing.
