No need to apologize, Greg. You are just being honest about what farmers are facing in these extremely hot, dry times. May you and the other farmers get the rain that is so desperately needed to sustain the crops and in turn the animals.

Even though I'm not a farmer and I don't know lots about farming I still really enjoy your guys videos and appreciate you guys and all the farmers everywhere I mean without farmers we would not have tons of food and lots of industries (Railroads and other transportation companies) would lose business I just wanted to say thanks for the work yall do

Your allowed. It's painful when things you have no control over make it necessary to readjust your plans. You have to have feed, so you do everything you can to ensure that. I wish you well to you and your family and God bless you.

I believe they have pulled abstraction licences here in the UK though in the infinite wisdom the local water company says that due to supplies running out locally they are going to build a new reservoir as there isn't enough water for everyone to then the surrounding councils all promptly say they're going to use it to supply tens of thousands of new homes so before it is even built we are back to square one.

I THOUGHT that farmers where I grew up chopped silage green when I was a kid. I live in North Dakota now, and they wait until it's brown and dry, then they add water (and I think molasses..?) when they store it. When I was a kid, everyone used concrete block silos, but I guess those are a thing of the past.
@zimmhollowfarm8414
@zimmhollowfarm8414 2 года назад
We still use block cement silos, harvest stores, and chop green here in Pennsylvania. There's also big guys who chop green, and fill bunkers. Around here no one that I know of here adds water most of time always trying to get it dryer. Or adds molasses never actually heard of that before.

Thanks for sharing guys I hope you can get some rain. Here in South Central Ky we were getting hit and dry and the crops were starting to suffer and the last few weeks have had plenty of rain and in Eastern Ky in the mountains they have suffered horribly from flood damage and loss of life. I don’t know if it’s global warming or what but the weather is crazy to what it was the 70’s and 80’s when I was a young man.

It was meant to be that this farming year the cattle would be better fed with vegetation than people. So less vegan diets for human consumption and more meat in our meals this year maybe! It's been so hot here this year in North Central Oregon that I haven't been able to get out and use my Farmers Direct coupons at the local Veggie and Fruit stand yet! So I feel for you guys trying to work out in the scorching sun! Hope you do get your crop insurance!

Since your family has been farming for 140 years... do you know how silage was created and used over that time? I'm remarking on how modern machines must make this so much easier. For example, if you used turnips or beets in the old days (lol I'm 72) it seems the process would have been easier. I compost. And I've been reading Adam smith's wealth of nations pub in 1776 where he talks about beets and turnips for cattle.

Hello Guys, I had no idea what Silage was so I read a bit about it before watching these videos. My wife had told me that she had no idea either when I ask her. As I started reading about Silage and how's it's made I said to my wife that it sounded just like the process I used that time I made the home made sauerkraut but on a much larger scale and with lots of different things in the mix. In the end of my experiment I wound up eating very little of it because I was afraid it might be bad and I wouldn't know it. It was frustrating because my mother had told me years ago that her mother and grandmother would just make it in a big ceramic urn on the porch with few of the precautions I took.

Would a land roller work for packing silage down? I’ve always wondered. And of COURSE it’s depressing to watch your field burn up in the heat! Farmers losing grain like this doesn’t just effect you, but the world! We’re already facing a possible wheat shortage bc of Ukraine, supply chains are a mess, & we won’t know the effects of the fertilizer shortages until after harvest. Agriculture is a global market, food shortages can lead to crisis. So, seeing this is depressing for all of us

Make up one of your songs as an anthem and share. Sad to say but scientists are saying that the weather is going to stay with us getting more rain. Have not had any real cyclones since 2018, they bring rain to central Queensland, 1/4 of the continent, and then a rain depression moving south. This weather brings rain to the east coast and cooler sea temp. Plant Australian dry land varieties next year.
