Its great to see Jessi isnt afraid to share training issues with us. That even as knowledgeable as she is, you shouldnt be scared to get someone elses opinion. I love how Jessi does everything she can to make all her animals happy, healthy and thrive.
This is wisdom and mastery. Mastery doesn't grant egotistical dominion. Mastery coincides with wisdom, and wisdom shows that we never know everything and its okay to hear the experiences and lessons from others.
I think Jessi is just experienced with other animals plus she is more of a "generalist". So she knows a lot about a lot of animals while BirdTricks know exceedingly much about birds
Lovely video! I adore Chopsticks' talking and sassy personality from previous videos, it's so good of you to have videos like this too showing the struggles of bird care and your own struggles with training. It's great to see examples of experts needing a second pair of eyes and guidance to get through a tough spot, important for everyone to remember they benefit from help! And as always, your openness in showing everything involved with bird care reminds me that no matter how much I enjoy watching your videos on them, I never want to own a bird myself.
Yay! Jamie talked about the ABC of behaviour. I used this as a teacher to help me analyse classroom incidents. A is for Antecedents, what happened before the event, long and short term. B is for behaviour, exactly what happened during the incident. C is for consequences, what happened as a result of the behaviour, particularly what may have been rewarding and reinforcing, encouraging the behaviour to be repeated. An excellent tool for close observation and reflection.
Jamie's so cute, she looks like a little bird herself! I love that they were able to help you with your routine & figure out where it went off track, like little birdie psychologists!
"Bird Tricks" are by far the most LEGIT training channel, better then any other channel in all of youtube by far and I don't think any animal channels comes close. They can teach you about every thing you need to know times 1.000.000 you didn't know but should of known. Also they don't teach just what to do but Why. I love their channel so much and Animal Wonders too!
Hi! You should've known to use "should've known" instead of, "should of known" b/c "of" has a meaning & it makes no sense to say "should of known". "Should've is a contraction for "should HAVE" so just use the word "should have" in your sentence & if that's what you want to say & it makes sense, then you can use the contraction. The same goes for would've & could've.
@@DonnaBrooks I love your grammar skills, but sometimes we grammar nerds could be a little more tactful and constructive in our approach. The OP was super positive and I think that should be acknowledged.
@TheShadowofDormin I love Bird Tricks, too! They are so keenly perceptive of a bird's wants and needs and they treat them with as much respect as they would other humans.
Perfect example that professionals can still need and get help with what they work with and still be an expert about their job and be good at it!!needing help doesn’t make you any lesser than before! ❤️❤️I love you jessi!!
You have the job that 8 year old me wanted. Now, I've happily settled into being a hobbyist, predominately reptiles and amphibians, but not exclusively. And I seriously respect you, and anyone else, accepting and asking for help.
I love that you're so open to showing not just the animal's learning journeys but also your own. I work with children, not animals, but I feel inspired by your patience and dedication to strive for the same levels in my own practice.
It’s nice to know that even professionals like Jessie aren’t infallible and still continue to learn and progress and get second opinions, not just assume they’ve got everything right.
Jamie and Dave are so knowledgeable, it's a true pleasure to listen to them! also, I love how Jessi is doing everything in her power to make the animal comfortable and happy. these videos are always so wholesome and interesting!!
Thanks for sharing both when you ask for help, and when your animals AREN'T the best behaved. I feel like it's really easy for animal owners to feel like they are failures and give up, when their animals are not like others.
Okay I seriously love this! Jessi is a professional animal trainer, but can still listen to Jamie and Dave's tips! A perfect demonstration of how we can always keep learning!
My bird has different feather fluffs for different emotions. There's happy fluff, scared fluff, angry fluff, and chill fluff. I'm apparently the only one who can tell the difference. But I think they all look completely different.
James Pellosma: I believe we feel energy from all other sentient beings. Maybe you’re feeling those emotions - not really seeing different kinds of fluff?
@@lydwinaofschiedam2685 body language can be surprisingly varied with birds. They really do puff up for many reasons. Sometimes they fluff up as a signal that they want head rubs/scratches. Sometimes they puff up to look large if they're scared. They can also puff up if they're cold because that helps them trap heat with their feathers. They'll even puff up at times when they're sick because in the wild they don't want to show vulnerability by letting other animals see that they're ill. If there's nothing wrong with a bird's environment, you can start to get to know what the fluff is about. If you're chilling at home and your bird is totally comfortable and fluffed, odds are that's a happy fluff. 😊
Kind of like human hugs are not the same as headlocks, or the heimlich maneuver, or carrying your groceries, but all of the body language of wrapping our arms around things might seem similar if we were to photoshop out the activity.
I loved this (as always) and loved the other end over on Birdtricks, both were informative and provided information I hadn’t known about before. It was amazing how Jessi, Jamie Leigh, and Dave were able to read even the most subtle communicating that Chopsticks gave, I’m working on that for my birds and I hope to be able to that someday. I hope this collaboration helps more people see your videos and show your organization some love!
It is so strange to see & hear about Chopsticks behaving like this! I remember the first video I saw of him & he was so funny & animated! He kept laughing & did so many other impressions. Glad to see he still does the "Achoo!"
Love both channels and was great to see a collaboration. Don't know if I enjoyed watching Chopsticks learn about touch training or Jessi's face when certain things were clicking into place! Great vid...😊😊😊
It's amazing to watch body language so closely. I have no idea what chopsticks is thinking, but Jessi's body language is so obvious to me. You looks so worried for Chopsticks, and it's very clear to me that you want your friend to be happy and healthy. I find it amazing how thinking about body language gives you a completely different perspective on all animals, even humans. :)
This was awesome!!! Three of my favorite RU-vid people working together. It just shows how professionals sometimes need help too. Chopstick’s achoo was absolutely adorable.
Gotta love that background "O-ooooh my goodness!" in reaction to Chopsticks' Achoo. XD I could watch a loop of you signaling and him following up with achoo.
Love the crossover with other youtubers, helps make me respect what all of you are teaching us when you are still teachable yourself. Keep up the great work.
I loved when she explained waiting for calm before taking the stimulus away... that way the calm becomes it’s own reward. All the best horse trainers know this trick, and it doesn’t surprise me it works for birds as well. Immediately taking the scary thing away can both be scary in itself, and you end up accidentally rewarding the bad behavior.
One of my favorite book series *ever* has a very special group of folks - basically a magical tribe - who work constantly with birds. Now, it's a fantasy book series, so these people have extremely unusual birds and all sorts of "yeah that would never happen in nature" types of abilities for both themselves AND their birds...as a for-instance, most of the bond-birds are raptors, but not all the same species, and they tolerate each other: not something you'd really see in the real world, at all!! But that said, the author of the books has worked with lots of raptor rehab programs and has quite a flock of parrots herself, and so I read about "feather language" and a few other quirks of bird behavior. It was really, really neat to see Chopsticks displaying some feather language in this video. I too would have read the raised head feathers as a happier, more relaxed "expression" from a parrot. It's fascinating to realize how differently Chopsticks was acting from the expected, and watching you learn new ways to approach working with him. Wonderful video! Thank you!
@@WireMosasaur Oh! The series is by Mercedes Lackey; her Valdemar universe... There are several trilogies but the set that makes me think about all this is generally the "Darian's Tale" three: Owlflight, Owlsight, and Owlknight. The people that call themselves the Tayledras are known by outsiders as the Hawkbrothers. You can already see from that, the sort of neat stuff they are known for!
I think Chopsticks did seem happy in that moment. The patience seemed to really calm him. I read it as a happy fluff. He didn't seem to be in a heightened state at that point. I'm sure he could easily get that way, but head fluffs can mean different things at different times.
Two of my favorite channels together! You are all so wonderful in all you do. Jessie, I recently found your daughter's youtube page. Animal love and compassion runs in the family!
I hope this helps improve your relationship with Chopsticks! He's so cute! Quakers can be such an emotional breed, and incredibly frustrating to work with. While they have the BEST personalities when they're in a good mood, they can turn into bipolar angry toddlers when hormonal or upset about something!
I love how you guys just spoke the same language, like since you both know so much about training already Jamie was able to help you without getting frustrated because you were understanding what she was saying pretty much before she even got the sentence all the way out of her mouth and I can’t really explain this but this video was weirdly enough satisfying (idk if thats the best word to use for it or not) but just seeing you understand so easily and knowing you are going to use the information to help chopsticks idk it just seemed so fulfilling 😂
I would love to see the whole uncut version of this if you even have it because it’s one of the most interesting things to see two trainers working together on the same bird and both of you ladies are just so in tune with bird and animal behavior that I am learning so much watching U two
I would, too! Parrots are so smart and interesting. I know they must be a lot of work, but it's so worth it to keep going back and strengthening those bonds with them. I would love to see them thriving.
This was fascinating! Thank you so much for sharing. It's really inspiring to see how much you care for your animals, and that you're sharing the challenges of caretaking as well as the joys. I really respect that!
Wow my two favourite animal carers! I love animal wonders and bird tricks and I learn so much from both of them, so its fabulous to see a video with both of you! Thanks for the great video!
Really cool video. I learnt a lot and it's great to see youtubers i like collaborate! I have the same problem with my birds, they just fly away when they don' want something. I got advised to clip them but i never did because i believe that there is a better way for me to train them than to force them to stay around when they don't want to. You're giving me hope and motivation, thank you!
Aaaaaaahhhh! It happened! You guys actually made a video together! I thought this would be awesome if you and birdtricks would do a video together ever since I started watching them!
I used to have 2 of them. They are very smart ... they belongs to South America , in my country in the countryside we are full f them. I love them ❤️😍🥰
Wow, I learned so much! I think that you've shown me how to state shape for my BFA who went from phobic to happily, manic-aggressive as he gained newfound confidence. Happy, calm confidence coming up! Thank you so much for the help for my Birds and me - and for the Fun! 💚🐦💚
Maybe this is weird, but our gcc is very unsure about things he hasn't seen before so when we introduce him to something new, we tap the item on our own faces before we offer it for him to tap his beak on, then we tell him what a good boy he is. He's very motivated by praise which is super sweet
