Hello again Folk Friends! I'm finally back to making videos and will be attempting to upload something roughly once a fortnight. Today's topic is about how to use the first inversions of minor and major chords to create cool, fluid chord progressions. I'll be giving an example in the key of A dorian with an Irish jig called Cliffs Of Moher. You can also apply this Irish guitar chord progression to other traditional tunes in A minor, or move it up and down the fretboard for tunes in E minor, G minor or B minor.

Your new book is brilliant. I received it yesterday, and have already learned new things from it! You've explained things so well, and the diagrams make everything so much easier to understand. I love that you mentioned all your regular visitors to the Friday videos too. That was a really nice thing to do - thanks 🌞👍. Also, it arrived the day after I ordered it - so, fantastic service too! Thanks again. 🙂 xox🌱❤️🌿xox

The new shop looks great. Great video and thanks for putting in the chord diagrams. Your new book on chord inversions is excellent. Really nicely laid out, lots of clear diagrams and explanations making sense of quite complex music theory. Great stuff Nye! 👍

Thanks Chrissie! I'm very pleased with it :). Books should be no trouble as Amazon just print them as people order them! Drop me an email if you'd like to order one directly though, they're a jot cheaper that way and come in a genuine Folk Friend recycled padder bag 🤘

Seen Matt Heaton and a couple others doing a similar lesson but those diagrams really help. I hope your mom is alright, Nye. And do you have a local Irish session in Sheffield? It would be awesome to see other musicians you play with on your channel :) Got a fiddle player pal around? Iechy da! Have a good week! Tomó

She's very well thankyou! I don't really go to sessions often to be honest, I pretty much live in the shop atm :L

Great tutorial, thanks Nye! That chromatic transition sounds great. Do the music theory gods generally allow chords outside of the key for transitions like this? (In reference to the A major chord)
@folkfriend
@folkfriend 2 года назад
Thanks Adam! They gods find it to their liking if said chords are brief passing chords. They tend to raise their eyebrows a bit more sternly if the non-diatonic chord appears in the first half of a bar. You'll also notice that in the second half of the 3rd bar there is no C note so the C# in my A major isn't clashing with anything. If there were a C in there somewhere then it might not have sounded so nice, so just listen out when you're test driving these chords with different tunes and if they don't sound right somewhere then don't put them there again 👍

Does that book suit standard tuning as much as others? I see it landing below my X-Mass tree. Dunno why 🤔

Either the e-book if you're happy to read it from a screen or using Amazon.com if you'd prefer a paperback. Thanks!

is that a lightening bolt razorback V? You ship to canada? lol
@folkfriend
@folkfriend 2 года назад
It is indeed! I have actually just shipped a Gretsch Streamliner to Nova Scotia- it cost about £200 for the shipping including the insurance and the guitar is up at £500 so you'd be looking at about 1200 Canadian dollars for your very own Razorback to be shipped out there. I hear guitars are much dearer in Canada so perhaps that's still a reasonable price?
