Chord Switching - explained procedure for Yamaha arrangers - StyleMagic YA software

A Style is made up of the different Sections (Intro, Main, Ending, etc.) and each Section has eight separate channels, each of which is referred to as a “Source Pattern.” With the default initial settings, the Source Root/Chord is set to CM7. This means that you should record a Source Pattern which is to be triggered by specifying CM7 during normal performance.
But if we want an instrument to play a special different phrase when we press a specific chord, we have to use the Chord Switching method. In this video, I described how you can do this in StyleMagic software. It takes a little experience and knowledge of the basic concepts of Yamaha Style. So check out these four videos.

Well done and thank you for your video. I've had magic YA style for 4 years and I've done a lot of styles for my Genos. Thanks for the clear and detailed explanation. I didn't know about some YA magic style features like copying and pasting an instrument while holding the CTRL key. I subscribe to your channel to follow your advice.

Wow, these drums are great! I just wish they were available on more keyboards, or that the samples were in a soundfont.

These are factory drums from Genos.

@@CasperVideo I get that. I'm saying that I wish I could have them. I wish they were either in a soundfont or on the PSR-SX600/700. I have a PSR-SX600, and I wish I could either have the drum samples themselves, or the demos of the Genos drums as MIDI files, to compare them to an expansion pack I have, and the drums that already came on the SX600.

@@DJIncendration In addition to specific sounds, Genos also has the so-called Round Robin technology (kontakt). There are up to 28 layers in the factory drums. That's why the SX series keyboards can't sound the same. You can have the same samples but they cannot be triggered in the same way.

@@CasperVideo I get that, and I'm ok with that. I just wish I could have any of them, even if it's not the exact same. As in, even if there's no wave cycling/round Robin technology, I wish I could have even one of the samples of each drum (one sample for each velocity).

Can i use style creator for record 7 chord and XGWorks to editing MIDI data and CasmEdit for editing channel? This is easier than use Style Magic, because this program isn't free.

An external CASM editor is required to create Style with chord 7. XGWorks and Style Creator alone are not enough. A CASM editor can be used to process SFF1, www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software/casmedit/index.htm and SFF2 can also be processed with CASM Edit. www.mnppsaturn.ru/osenenko/Main_eng.htm
