Using chords to keep time or as a vamp in between riffs/licks...sorta like the Whammer Jammer intro... (A harp 2nd position)..

nice work, an easy-to-watch lesson: breaking it all down from simple technique to light embellishment without getting to heavily into musical jargon, which many beginners are overwhelmed with.

No most of this is done lip pursing by just sort of opening and closing my mouth to allow a chord/chords in between any single notes and also yes articulating with a "t" sound against my front teeth.. Of course you can and should try it tongue blocking too. Good question!

I speak only to reinforce your wisdom Mr Ricci, "timing is everything." Even the heavenly spheres revolve around the golden orb with utterly exact timing! Some of Little Walters works are simply no more than warbles with an odd bend here and there. But even with his warbles he's accenting or playing off the beat with utterly impeccable timing. This is the secret of the wisdom teachings, left to us by the venerable master Jacob.

Hey Jason, it's Lord Stompy here, on my new harmonica history channel I'm setting with harmonica historian Ray Grieve. Since you're on vamping I thought I'd let you know I've just got the old time Aussie 20's & 30's vampers up that have been a huge influence on me. Percy Spouse (vamping god), Dick Robertson and Eion S Campbell, the only recorded harp soloists from that era in Australia. Worth a listen for any serious vamper as they are great & a very different flavour to US players from that era. Cheers brother, respect!

Like your comments on not being only focused on technique but, paying attention also to developing a musical intuition applying to beats and measures, building solos to a crescendo, and the return to a theme.

Speaking for the peanut gallery, I'm happy for every clip either of you puts up, regardless of whether you might be covering the same material. It's useful to see what you do differently and what you do the same. Thanks again!

Wow man. In ten minutes I got so much better in my timing than I ever have before. I've always lacked rythym, as a guitar player, dancer, singer etc, but I've worked really hard as a harp player. This has really got me inot the groove. Thanks man.

You and Adam Gussow and many others have been mentors to people like myself who are wanting to get serious with their Harp playing. I really do hope you come out to Australia someday and tour down under. I've sent you a link to my band in pvt message. Please have a listen if you get the chance and feel free to critique me on my playing. Thankyou!

I want to send you some money for the help(it would have cost me to learn this from a private zoom lesson) , how can I do this,do you have a link I can send money to? Thanks again, Michael

@jasonricci He's absolutely right about impeccable time - but to step it up to the next level, tap your foot on 2 and 4 only, not on all four beats of the measure. Do this with a metronome at first until you "ingrain" it it.
