In brackets after your comment, write the name of the Cem Olcay app you would like to win if you get lucky with the random number generator. Good luck everyone! By the way, the part around 12:40 where I couldn't get inversions working was human error - the chord I was playing was not the one selected for editing 😅😅. Apologies, this was not a bug as I thought. ALSO - undo and redo are now working FINE in RhythmBud, though as you can see they were not in this video. So this was some weird glitch, but probably nothing that can’t be fixed.
I generally avoid tutorials longer than 10 minutes, yours I make an exception for. Another perfectly paced walkthrough that held my attention. RhythmBud looks like something I could find a use for. Cheers
Great tutorial Gavinski...I'm fairly new to IOS music production but I'm finding these videos invaluable. If I were to come up as a winner I think I'd like the ARPBud2. Cheers
Thank you Gavinski. Your tutorials always go into great detail. You are making manuals for us a little bit useless, not that I am too much into manuals LOL
@@GavinskisTutorials I hope he fixes the bugs you mentioned in the video. A little bit annoying but it doesn't diminish the pleasure of using those apps
The inversions thing was human error on my part. The undo and redo buttons in RhythmBud not working definitely seems to be a bug. The way the loop marker doesn't snap is intentional, I now think, but I don't like that, it means you can't quickly change loop lengths in a live performance. Hopefully that could be changed. Cem is pretty committed to fixing bugs quickly too, so I wouldn't worry too much.
I have both of these, love all their apps. Don’t use rhythm bud as much as I should, this video totally is making me go back and use rhythm bud more often. I would love arpbud2, cause it’s the only one from Cem I don’t have lol great tutorial bud!
I'm pretty good at doing my own chords, but I can see the use of something like this, especially for one-man-band live stuff, with some flexibility to modify in real time. It gets really close to sounding quite natural with the strum and velocity features. It would be great to have random variations, within upper and lower limits, to vary the velocity, strum amount and even inversion and octave each time it loops. It would make it sound quite human when looping patterns for an extended time. Also, I'm using Tonality chord pads for this now, but it would be awesome to be able to define your own chord. That way you could have more widely spaced notes (like CGE instead of CEG) or include a low bass note with the higher chord tones. And you could choose between playing the notes in from a midi keyboard, or drawing them in from a screen keyboard. I always want more! (I think I'd choose the RhythmBud app if the gods smiled on me. And maybe buy the other!)
i've been really digging the whole 'bud' suite of apps, thanks to your videos! i wish Cem would offer a package deal :) have your tried Mozaic's various strumming and scaler patches? (Arpbud)
You know, I haven't actually got round to that. I know Mozaic is great, but I am not mad about the interface, so perhaps that's why I keep forgetting about it as an option despite how many great scripts people have written
Love the Buds, but I have few questions/feature requests, some answered here, thank you very much, Gavinski [like, what’s up with lack of quantization when moving the loop slider? Hopefully a bug]. Main one: ability to duplicate (copy/paste) individual sections-single and or multiple...where is it? This seems to be a key missing feature. ChordBud wouldn’t need single duplicate, but RhythmBud needs both single and multiple. Still, love the buds, worth getting and exploring. Very responsive developer in the Audiobus forum.
Yes, very responsive dev! The loop slider thing is horrible to work with, I hope that gets changed. Please suggest your duplicate idea to Cem, would be a good feature!
Yup, RhythmBud’s loop slider is an absolute PITA.. 🤬 ChordBud 2 has one that works nicely.. hopefully that’ll trickle down.. Also, need a way to split a rhythm (1 bar into 2 halves or 4 quarters) similar to the way ChordBud splits its bars..
Cem‘s Bud Apps are a really nice and useful collection. Chord Bud’s transport grid snaps unfortunately only to a minimal quarter note. I wanted a finer resolution down to at least 16th, also the possibility to snap to dotted, triplets and quintuplets and switch off quantization completely if necessary. In its current form the grid therefore produces chord sequences that are rhythmically just too static for my taste. For assembling longer chord sequences, groupings for moving, copying and deleting would also be very useful. But maybe everything is still to come, the app has a lot of potential. Thanks for the walkthrough. (Scale Bud)
Good comments Chris, I'm sure these could come, since RhythmBud is capable of non-quantised transport grid loop points. In fact, rhythm bud's problem is lack of convenient quantising 😂. Nothing in either that can't be fixed / added by Cem I'm sure
They both look like very useful apps... the video shows beautifully how they can complement each other. (For the draw, my first preference would be ChordBud, but then I would go and buy RhythmBud for the best combo).
At 12:35 where you had the problem with inversions not working it was because you were looping on the first note but you still had the second note selected so the inversion was applied to the second note but you couldn’t hear it because you were still looping on the first note.
I was looking for a similar app like ChordBud, got Riffer instead and regretting thought totally not the same. I wonder, because RhythmBud "humanizes" the chords from ChordBud, is there an app that does both? I don't mind getting both, just wondering.
I just discovered this channel recently and it’s much better than the Sound Test Room. When I watch this channel the narrator seems to be talking to everybody. However I find the Sound Test Room to be very cliquey. Also Doug spends half the video messing around with an App doing his own thing instead of how to use the App which is very monotonous.
Everyone has their own preferences, some ppl won't like the way I do things, I'm glad you do though, Steve, looks like the search is over lol, welcome to the channel 👻
I can’t praise the Chord Bud 2 app and the suite of apps that support it enough...in fact I’m over the moon ..bereft of criticism and fabulously locked in my studio in a frenzy of AUM creativeness . Due to preferred voicing options specific to the VST environment I find a lot of my workflow involves porting wave files into AUM , then generally extending the composition there in with AUM effects and mastering capabilities. The VST environment is well supplied with profoundly capable compositional aids (Scaler 2 Captain Chords others are available etc) . In my experience versatile , musically functional, equivalent tools have previously been a key missing link in the AUM domain. I would suggest this days are over. Chord Bud 2 operation is well worth mastering , in many ways it is at least equivalent to the powerful music creation tools offered in the VST zone...even with a few bugs which will iterate into oblivion we have a not so rough diamond here. I don’t usually recommend buying apps but I will make an exception in the case of Chord BUd2 and the entirely complimentary Rhythm Bud . All for the price of a couple of burgers, maybe some fries and a fizzy drink. Thanks for another great Tutorial Best Limbic 🙏🎩🦄👍🎹
Hey man, something I’m wondering about when using em together. If I switch between different patterns in chordbud when building a song, does it mean I have to switch the pattern in Rhythmbud also, right? Can I put ‘advance pattern’ to the same midi CC in both apps so I won’t have to press two buttons? Or how would you sequence them together? It looks easier to finagle than polyarpstep or the bigger sequencers
Hey bro, I haven't used either of these in months. Normally I would go check for you but I am seriously too busy at the moment. If you are not alrwady a member, join tbe Audiobus Flrumyand ask this question there, you'll get a response for sure 👍
@@GavinskisTutorials Someting funny about making music on iPad, it is so close, but yet can be to far! :) Have a great day, and see you on Audiobusforum
Yeah, who knows, some kind of grudge most likely. Anyway, as you can see, it makes zero difference, this is actually my most watched video in this time period ever, I think 😂
Hello friend. Do you know an app called iReal pro? It has functions I'm looking for, but no realtime MIDI command. Can this chorbud be used as a playback?
@@GavinskisTutorials Oh yes, OK. If you know Ireal Pro you have an idea of the functions I'm looking for, right? Well, but as it is an app that doesn't have midi I want to know if chordbud or even progressions can replace iReal as playback.
@@GavinskisTutorials I don't know if it's possible to do this with iReal pro, but it can be very good as a playback instrument part of a song. In Chordbud or Progressions could I do something like this? I mean enter a score and play the chords as an accompaniment.
Hi there, Is it possible for you to show the keyboard on occasion...I watch your tutorials with breakfast and its sometimes tough to decipher which is a played note and which is transport generated until the coffee kick in! Off to buy Chordbud, Cheers, Anthony McGrath, Glasgow
Hi Anthony, I don't think there were any notes played by keyboard here, no? They all just came from Chordbud if I remember! I rarely use external keyboards in my vids, by the way, usually onscreen, so if I'm playing it it is visible! I definitely have no plans to start using a second camera in my vids, it's screen-recordings all the way!
Hello Gavin Hope you're well, both these apps look useful,I currently use ChordPolyPad and record it into something like cubasis to trigger the midi to other apps so for convenience I would choose (Chordbud 2)
It's biggest problem is you can't record a sequence with it apart from that it's brilliant does strumming ect,for example if I want to add strings from a non auv3 into NanoStudio 2 therefore cannot use the sequence to try out different sounds from apps although writing this I've just thought about sending the midi out to the app and sending it through audioshare and record it on a slate track in NanoStudio like I do to record korg Gadget in NanoStudio 2....ummm there is a idea I've got to try.
Yeah, I still might revisit your idea for using all three of those together like that, didn't get round to it in this one! So many apps, so little time 😂
I find the app very useful. The main inconvenience I see is only having a single line in transport. It would be much more friendly for example to be able to layout a song progression in 4 lines of 4 bars each. It would allow easier editing and easier to follow the progression as it plays. Right now I think the precious screen real state is not really well taken advantage of. Great app anyway.
Thanks for the video. Great apps, the modest design is covering the possibilities rare seen in similar apps. My request to all of the series is: I want to have drag-n-drop in the snapshots! If I put together a nice chain of them and suddenly feel a need to make some corrections inside one of them, I have to copy-paste each of them, left to right, starting with a new one, to the last one, and then delete the old omes, to keep the chain together. Quite tedious, even using MIDI! [Rhythmbud]
Gavinski’s Tutorials Now I feel I should :) Not a fan to bother devs with my fancy wishes, but Bud apps are too good for fast use as a programmable sequencers with external MIDI controller
just got all the Bud apps in the big sale! This video is helpful once again.. RhythmBud still seems buggy though, the loop slider is still a pain and Undo still clears everything.. also quantize? oh well, still great fun :)
I noticed when you changed the inversion initially it changed the chord to the right of the one you expected to change from EM7 to a EM7/G even though the loop marker was set to the right of the one you expected to change when you said it wasn’t working but I think it was at min 14.45 in the video. The cycle verses timing issues seem to effect it though would say maybe there is a bug about timing maybe
Thanks for the extended and detailed tutorial 👌, got an eye on chordbot for longer time already to use within AUM, for I was fighting with some other chord-apps to work well together with AUM (using the midi-out from some of this apps to trigger the sounds of my synths, keyboards and more.., So I already use navichord, chordpolypad, chordbot, touchscaper, chordmaps2 and tonaly with different results. Chordbud I fully understood, but didn’t understand how rythmbud got his chords from.... and what the role of scalebud was in the AUM-chain.. If I am lucky to win, I would be very happy (and responsive 😏) with (Chordbud2) 😁😁
RhythmBud got its midi input from chordbud here. Scalebud was there, I wanted to show some features of it but I don't think I used it in the end, if I remember right.
Great tutorial as always🖤. I think this chord app is essential if you have no idea and musical background. Would be great to work with it. (ChordBud 2)🙏🏽🖤🙏🏽🖤🙏🏽
Gavinski’s Tutorials wow...thank you and Cem so much for making this giveaway possible👍🏽 I don’t know why I didn’t get a massage this time, good that I check the post again🤪. Will send the email right now🙏🏽🖤🙏🏽
These are cool apps. I have ‘Suggester’ and it’s great but doesn’t have that ‘human’ thing you can do here. Saying that, I’d still like like the arp... 👍
Do you mean the undo and redo button bug, or which bug? The inversions thing was my mistake, I realised after I was editing the wrong chord. The way the loop marker in RhythmBud doesn't auto snap to a grid I suspect might be intentional but I find it very annoying. Not sure if it is a bug, I think not. There is a definite bug in chordbud though - sometimes the undo button is missing.
Gavinski’s Tutorials Just tried the undo redo in RythmBud working fine my end so strange u had problems . I’m on the ChordBud Beta will watch u video again and see if I can recreate the same problems u encountered. I noticed any changes you make to a chord etc takes 1 cycle before it’s applied so maybe it’s a timing issue you was having with quantize etc.
OK, this made me try it again and it is working fine now immediately - strange indeed. I guess the app os not fully stable. Because in chordbud, also the undo button is sometimes there and sometimes not!
Never start a tutorial without showing how you set up the components on the sequencer ! I have both apps and still dont know how to get them working together after watching .
I can't show that every time because I have too many apps going in my sessions generally and a lot of advanced users watching my videos. You should watch my video on aum
These types of apps were some of the most important to me on desktop and imo, perfect for the ios interface. Other than those with lifelong musical experience and practice, idk how others write songs. I know my theory but Im not good enough to switch chords, of various types, on the fly, in any key lol. I have Chordbud and was hoping for a good tutorial on it so thanks again [rythmbud]
I also don't have great keyboard skills, these kind of tools are wonderful. But I also like how they push you into doing things in a different way. Happy accident machines. That's what I Iove most about these, when I sit down to use them I never quite know what's going to come out.
Hey, you missed out on the snapshots + record modes in RhythmBud (at the very bottom, off screen - need to scroll or stretch the window).. snapshots are super useful, recording a rhythm, interesting but not-so-much.. Good run-through there bud.. 😎 thanks.. I find the Buds still need a few things tweaked here + there.. My faves are StepBud + RhythmBud (random for the strum is great.. good options in the arp section too - random!)..still haven’t got (ArpBud 2).. RNG, Will you Let it be? 🤣
Oops, very true! Damn, I remember seeing those but didn't investigate them at all. I also regret that I didn't show the ability to add rests in RhythmBud!
U sold mi on the basic features these apps do. Idk about all of the apps this developer makes. I'm just not sure my sound needs all those apps. Just not sure.
Yeah,y personally gave if I had to pick one is probably arp bud. The apps by this dev are good, but over time I start to wish they were more full featured
